That's a beautiful '52 Irvin, Scott, congrats! I posted these on another thread but I thought they should be part of the "permanent record" here. Two new types for me:
Moved into a solid 14th place in the hall of fame players registry. I have a few cards to sub that will get my set close to 100%, after that I'll need two. If anybody has a Andy Cooper and/or Pud Galvin, please send me a PM (especially Cooper, can't find anything for him!) Here's a link to my set:

Nice Strip cards. I almost had a complete set before, I don't remember off the top of my head the year or W number.
My first Caramel card. I just love the color and dynamism of this image -- especially considering the fact that Bresnahan was a catcher not known for his speed!
Very cool Dandridge, Scott, I'm looking forward to the day I purchase my first Negro League HOFer original -- maybe at the National in a few weeks (can't wait!)
So what did everyone get from the HOF Players/Managers/Umpires/Contributors set recently parceled out by probstein?
I added a Callahan of a 19th century HOFer I didn't have anything of (Tommy McCarthy), as well as 2 modern PSA 10s (1 for a player set and 1 because it's actually a fairly tough insert).
He got nice prices on a lot of new cards of old HOFers.
Scott and Andy, I've enjoyed watching your sets grow and seeing pics of all your pickups. Keep them coming.
I've been on the fence about selling my HOF set for awhile and last week after talking to Rick Probstein, I decided to do it so I could fund some items for my Nolan Ryan collection.
Wish you guys all the best with your sets.
If anyone is interested here is a link to my set showing the cards that Rick is selling for me. I have most of the umpires and executives/owners in the set.
I'm sorry to see you're selling your HOF set, Donato, it's one to be admired. I've got my eye on a couple of your cards, but if I pull the trigger that just means I'll have less to spend in Baltimore in a couple of weeks! Good luck on your sale (I'm sure that Rick will do great for you) and I wish you all the best in your Ryan focus.

Let's activate this thread again! Here are my pre-war pick-ups from the National, including a new type for me ('34 Goudey). I don't know why the hobby values the T206 portraits more than the baseball poses; the latters' athleticism, backgrounds and colors are so much more attractive to me. I understand that many of the classic T206 portraits are based on Carl Horner original studio photographs and that can in part account for the differences in value. But how can you beat the aesthetics of these three? I wouldn't trade them straight-up for equivalently-graded portraits of Cobb, Lajoie and Waddell (and I know that beauty is in the eye of the beholder!) Enjoy!
I completely agree regarding the look of the T-206s -- same can be said for the 1933 Goudey IMO.
I try to limit myself to just one card per HOFer but I often squirrel a second away until I decide which one to keep -- and usually it involves making the choice you have described.
That's a beautiful Aaron RC, congrats on adding such a great card to your collection! I still haven't gotten a playing-days' card for any of the tough Negro Leaguers, I'm really looking forward to my first Caramelo-Deportivo or Toletero!
My latest addition (and my attempt to get this thread back on the first page!) I posted this on the main page, but I thought it should be here too. Bought at my favorite shop over the holidays:

From Joe's Vintage Sportscards; love the centering and lack of edge chipping:
Also from Joe's; a new type for me and my first playing days card from one of the original 1936 inductees:
And finally from my favorite shop, a real classic:

When I see a card that nice in a PSA 5 holder, I wonder how there can be nine more (PSA 5.5 - PSA 10) incremental improvements in the grade.

I sold my HOF set with Rick, the last few cards end tonight. Rick will do you very well.
I sold mine due to planning on moving in the next 2-3 years. Where I will be going the cards have no value.

Donato - Nice to see you're still visiting this thread, I miss your great type-card HOFer collection, but I appreciate your commentary!
Here's two recent pick-ups: my first Tolstoi and EPDG backs!
Thanks on compliment, I appreciate it.
Those are some beautiful additions to your set. It's really coming along nicely. The Tolstoi is a toughie and it is one of my favorite T206 back.

<< <i>Absolutely Scott, I couldn't even find a single *modern* card of Deacon White. Do any of the recent retro or "tribute" sets have him? >>
2012 Goodwin Champions has him. There's also a 1976 SSPC set that he's in.
