the Ruth 'chase' cards occur about 6 per box in hobby packaging or 1 every 4 packs. Are the Maris and Mantle seeded the same or less often in Target and Walmart packs?
<< <i>the Ruth 'chase' cards occur about 6 per box in hobby packaging or 1 every 4 packs. Are the Maris and Mantle seeded the same or less often in Target and Walmart packs? >>
I got three Maris out of maybe 20 single packs at Wal-Mart.
Made the southern Heritage trail trip today. Three Wal-Marts, one Target and waiting until June to try Big KMart again. First up was Target. They had the new single retail packaging - 48 count box - which was empty (got them to give me the empty box). Wal-Mart boxes are smaller and must have 36 packs.
Had racks strewn all over the place with none on hangers, obviously well searched. Finally, they had seven blasters. First blaster was pretty much what I expect - three SPs and three inserts. Second blaster two SPs, two inserts, Berkman GU and Schrezer refractor which is mis-chromed. Figured, this was the hot box and continued on the trail. Found nothing anywhere else.
156,195 total wal mart packs with the Maris cards in them. That means there are 2600 of each Maris home run card...that isn't a whole lot. Anyone who has the Mantle odds from a target pack give me the odds on the Mantle jersey.
The Maris jersey is pulled 1:1157 packs...not that bad, about the same odds of pulling a red ink from those same packs.

Hit Target today and got 3 blasters. 8 SPs, some fb, 2 chrome, Aramis Ramirez Jersey, and a Youkilis/Tulowitski stamp # 1/50. Wonder if the 1/50 is enough to pull some extra $?
I got six racks from Target. I pulled jack squat, but I expected that from what I've read here.

What is even more disappointing is that I have seen at least 4 or 5 posts on other message boards of guys buying one box or one pack and pulling monster stuff. I'm not sure if Nick is done busting yet or not, but I think we might of all just had a bad year. I still think something is lurking in retail packs, but I am the great optimist!
Heritage finally here at Target. Garbage. 2 rack packs yielded 1 chrome. 2 blaster yielded 3 SPs and 1 chrome.
As to Walt's point, my biggest hit was from the random packs at the sho and I unloaded it for over $3 bills to the big Heritage collector in LA. Since then, nothing but Jerseys

Hit 4 Targets today, and only 2 of them had any heritage. One had 9 racks and the other had 4 blasters. First rack I opened had a Red Auto of Jerry Casale 45/61 and another rack had an Arod Dice back variation. Of the 4 blasters, I pulled #55 Pablo Sandoval SSP variation.
Well sorry guys, couldn't make it happen. Maybe I opened the wrong box. Here are my boring highlights along with the totals:8 SP's,2 fracts, 5 chrome, 1 Dice, 1 GU:

Well, typical blaster - coupla SPs, coupla inserts, not much else of note. Joe told me that the good stuff is in the other three blasters, but I'll never know - I ain't goin' back. This blaster'll tide me over until my case arrives.
Seems like the centering is nice this year, at least it was in this box.
I was wondering how you guys store your chrome/refractor sets? I've always stored them in individual top loaders but I like the idea of flipping through a binder so I may make the switch. The only problem is that the refractors seem to curl over time.

I just spent this past Sunday putting all my chrome sets from 2007 to 2010 in a binder. They look nice that way.

I use 2 three inch ultra notebooks to store my Heritage set, update (hi number) set, regular inserts, and chrome. This totals up to about 1000 cards in the 2 notebooks. My refractors go in top loaders along with Clubhouse Collection cards. Those cards are stored in a 1600 count shoebox. Probably more than you wanted to know, but this has been my approach since 2008. My 2001 and 2002 chrome sets are stored in top loaders since they are more rare than today's chromes.
The chromes do curl in the notebook pages and I've had a few actually stick so now I put the chromes in a penny sleeve, then into the 9 pocket. Doesn't look as good, but at least the card won't stick.

I put my sets in a binder. I don't think it really matters. The cards seem to curl a little no matter what, even if they're in top loaders.

I've talked about this before, but for some reason I can't find penny sleeves that fit in 9-pocket pages anymore.
If the Color Variation SSPs are on a lighter shade of card stock, is this different than the regular SPs? Does anyone have a scan of the back of a Color Variation card?
Also, do the Dice Game Variations all have the white SP backs?
Yes on the Dice variation cards, they all have white backs with the chart for rolling dice, no stats. There are a few posted on this thread. Can't answer the SP question, don't have any.

The Color Variation of the SSPs is the same color of the regular SPs numbered 426-500. Very easy to spot from the back. I've picked up half of the 10. Hopefully I can get around to a scan tonight.
I managed to find 7 rack packs at a Kmart, that was it out of 8 Walmarts, 2 Targets and 3 Kmarts....if you factor in my gas these silly packs only cost me $15 each.
Is anyone collecting anything else from this year and last? This years "Topps Series I" is nice and last years "Ticket to Stardom" is really a good looking set. Just providing an alternative to all of these pack trips around town where you guys end up empty handed. Just MHO...

I wonder if these gravity feed packs were the last off the presses and hence have nothing in them. Still with the odds on the Mantle and Maris cards I don't know why you wouldn't buy them, Nick, what did the box cost you?
Gravity feed box 2 - 36 packs: 12 - Short Prints 3 - NAP 3 - T&N 3 - BF 3 - NF 2 - Chrome 0 - Refractor 9 - Maris Chase 61 Victor Martinez Dice back variation
My take on these "gravity feeds" at $80 per box for 36 packs - its 4 more packs that $80 worth of blasters will give you, 12 SPs (4 blasters does not guarantee that) and there's no tax and free shipping. Also, buying 2 of these types of boxes for $160 (72 packs) is "pack equivalent" to 3 hobby boxes, but with no guaranteed hits.
For the set builder - Yes. For the hit seeker - No.

Victor Martinez Dice back variation
My take on these "gravity feeds" at $80 per box for 36 packs - its 4 more packs that $80 worth of blasters will give you, 12 SPs (4 blasters does not guarantee that) and there's no tax and free shipping. Also, buying 2 of these types of boxes for $160 (72 packs) is "pack equivalent" to 3 hobby boxes, but with no guaranteed hits.
For the set builder - Yes.
For the hit seeker - No.
