Finished up my case tonight. Will start sorting and will post a trade/want list tomorrow. Overall a decent case but no super big pulls. Box #11 yield a Gene Leek Autograph Box #12 had chromes of Ichiro, Jeter, Lincecum, and Mauer along with a Sizemore refractor.. not bad.
Stamp cards = 0 for the case, odds 1:193
Black Refractors = 2
Dice Cards = 4
As I mentioned earlier, best relic was a Tiger stadium seat featuring Al Kaline.
Not sure what everyone else averaged on the '61 SP chase cards of Ruth, Mantle and Maris, odds were 1:435. Pulled a Ruth in Box 10 and a Mantle in Box 12. I'm going to track down a Maris, but I'm not pursuing the SSPs this year.
I'm missing more SPs than I thought... also have more SP dups than I would have guessed. Looking forward to making some trades for Chromes, Refs, and SPs. - Mark

so what is left as far as retail is this....24 count target boxes and single walmart blister packs. I know that each target will get one maybe two of the 24 count boxes and each walmart might get 20 or so blister packs..thats it!
If this is true, and the maris and mantle cards are only found in these, then that will make them very rare!

hmmm, Craig just reported that there are 12 pack blaster boxes for 29.99...very interesting. What was the price point on those target blasters that someone here opened?

I got one pack with three cards. Three effen cards.
Collector of 1976 Topps baseball for some stupid reason. Collector of Pittsburgh Pirates cards for a slightly less stupid reason. My Pirates Collection
I'll put the set together soon, but I'm going to do it the most economical way. The trading group here appears to be roughly a quarter of the size it was in 2006 and 2007, and quite frankly I'd get killed trying to put together the set though buying packs and blasters and expecting to trade here. I just don't open enough product (i.e. buying a case or multiple cases) to even match up with many of you guys.
The 2008 set with the black/green variations was a bad move on Topps' part, as has been the high series. For the set collectors to shell out so much money to do this set and then have Topps come back and issue a high series six months later is just a terrible move IMHO. I remember in 2008 I busted my ass trying to put the 40-card Clubhouse Collection relic series together. I think I had 38 of them when I found out that the high series was going to include another 40 cards. Talk about ripping your heart out.
I love the design and will collect it. I enjoy seeing everyone's pulls here. It just seems like, for some reason, a lot of collectors are gone.
I got in on the Heritage boat late and didn't start until the 2007 Heritage season (actually hadn't touched a card prior to that in probably 20 years), at the time 2006 boxes/cases were still readily available at a reasonable price. I was hooked from day one. 2008 and 2009 were a bit of a let down although the 2008 high #'s were filled with hits. This year has been a blast other than the few packs with missing cards the quality has been substantially better, not near the number of damaged cards and the centering is fantastic. As a matter of fact out of the 1,700 or so packs I've opened this year I only had one damaged card and that was from a blaster. I also think the auto check list is better this year than the last two. The black refractor prices have fallen the last couple of years, and this year without any short printed relics you lose a little value as well, but I for one think that Topps did a good job with this years set.
Brian, I agree with you. Topps killed me with the high seies extension set. I was so close to putting together a master set, spending hundreds of dollars just to get the last cards. The auto selection is, and has been week. Compare those first couple of years with some of those great autos. Last year, no McCovey, and this year the rookies are missing again. Hate to bring it up again, but those refractors, chrome, and blacks ought to be something different than just a changed border and a different numbering system. Those blacks woul be great with an auto on them or maybe a different pose. I guess we are all in the same boat, spending hundreds, even thousands on completing these sets. I only collect three sets each year and I sink a ton of money in them. I don't like the extended series at all and I don't like Topps putting in the other card set (highlights)as a filler to try and get me to buy more. In any case, we are missing quite a few traders of previous years. I built two complete sets in 2007, there was a bunch of trading going on here. Even last year was pretty good. If I were to give advice to Topps it would be: 1) Make those super SP's a little more available 2) Focus on getting rookies of those years to sign (and more than 25 copies) 3) Forget some of the inserts that are non baseball related 4) Do something with the Chromes, etc 5) Make those inserts of the year more available( 10 boxes, 15 Rack Packs, and numerous single packs=2 dice, 2 autos, 1 black, 0 SSP's, 0 stamps, 0 variations)
I'll be here every year and we are really getting close to the years I love; 1963-1969, but this is more habit than fun , just like Walt indicated. I look forward to those rub-offs, gold and silver embossed, and the 1967 posters, but please Topps, don't dangle the carrot without letting me have a bite. You don't earn anything on cards that sell on the secondary market. Make more than 40, 50, or 68.

Wal-Mart blaster I got was $19.99 and had eight packs in it. Also, they had a big box of Heritage packs - holds 50+ packs??.
Got one Maris Chase '61 out of a blaster, 3 or 4 racks, and about 15 single packs but not sure what I got it out of, though I know it wasn't the racks.
Can also say that not all racks have SPs. Some of the racks I got didn't even have inserts. Also, I couldn't see a difference in the color on the back of the racks enabling picking out racks with SPs, but can tell the MVPs because they have a different back.
what is the best pack to rip if you are only interested in putting the set together, with no interest in completing the auto and other insert sets???? Bought three rack packs yesterday and got 42 cards...at that rate I'll be filing for unemployment and every conceivable government incentive before I could complete a set.....

My Registry Sets
In any case, we are missing quite a few traders of previous years. I built two complete sets in 2007, there was a bunch of trading going on here. Even last year was pretty good.
If I were to give advice to Topps it would be:
1) Make those super SP's a little more available
2) Focus on getting rookies of those years to sign (and more than 25 copies)
3) Forget some of the inserts that are non baseball related
4) Do something with the Chromes, etc
5) Make those inserts of the year more available( 10 boxes, 15 Rack Packs, and numerous single packs=2 dice, 2 autos, 1 black, 0 SSP's, 0 stamps, 0 variations)
To be honest, no direction, but...

<< <i>If this is true, and the maris and mantle cards are only found in these, then that will make them very rare!
has anyone seen walmart blasters yet? Can you all confirm that blasters this year are 12 packs 29.99 per? >>
Wal-Mart blaster I got was $19.99 and had eight packs in it. Also, they had a big box of Heritage packs - holds 50+ packs??.
Got one Maris Chase '61 out of a blaster, 3 or 4 racks, and about 15 single packs but not sure what I got it out of, though I know it wasn't the racks.
Can also say that not all racks have SPs. Some of the racks I got didn't even have inserts. Also, I couldn't see a difference in the color on the back of the racks enabling picking out racks with SPs, but can tell the MVPs because they have a different back.

<< <i>Is Heritage dead? If so, what killed it?
Is it the economy?
What Topps did to the product the last two years?
Oversaturation due to the High Series the last two years? >>
Dead...for topps, no way, for a lot of collectors, yes. Topps did their homework, they got us hooked. Much like bowman chrome, topps knows they can sell
it no matter what. Heritage has been weak the past two years, but this years product was better than last. We can also say that another product that is
in the same boat, Ginter, was much improved for 2009, so there is hope.
I guess the real question we must ask, is....why was it better last year, or the year before or in 2003? I think comparing it to 2001 is silly, but what didn't you like
about it?
Perhaps the super SP's, added value yes, but only if you pull them, if you are a perfectionist and had to put this into your set, you are now spening MUCH more money
on the set with the addition of these cards.
Is it the ink? I actually thought very few collectors, at least here, really collected the auto, but it appears that many do now. I know it sucks BIG TIME to defy
the odds and pull a scrub autograph. What is worse is that an entire case can yield NO INK at all. Collectors outside of heritage would laugh at that. I buy a
lot of other products and won't touch anything with less than 2-3 autos per box.
Is it the design? Not much topps can do there, but the small details are big for set builders.....anyone notice that topps basically quit on making the SP's in 2010
look like the old cards?
I would guess most have turned their backs on heritage because the fun is gone and that the value is lacking. The sad part of this is that topps isn't feeling their
absence at all.
So far I have had fun this year, I have gotten killed opening packs but I am hoping that retail gets me back into the game! >>
I like it! I THINK TOPPS IS TOPS!!!!
Buy the packs that are the cheapest per card.
Hobby pack: 8 cards @ $4 = .50 per card.
Hobby box: 192 cards @ $75 = .39 per card
Retail pack: 8 cards @ $3 + 5% sales tax = .39 per card
Retail rack: 14 cards @ $5 + 5% sales tax = .37 per card
Retail blaster: 64 cards @ $20 + 5% sales tax = .33 per card
I noticed talk of 12 pack blasters. I found thishalf box I've never seen 12 pack (half boxes) for Heritage until this year.

That looks like a typo - I think there are 2 rows of 12 packs in that box
