For the record, WinPitcher has also been known to follow me around and instigate in my threads. He really is a miserable troll whose entire life revolves around arguing in this forum.

    Another liar.

For the record Gecho is a douchebag, but then again we all know that.

Edited to add: For those that don't know, Geckho is the resident idiot on the coin forum.

Also search his name on this forum to see exactly what type of sleaze he really is.

I only wish the auto had been good so that the ending could have gone something like this.

corvette: PSA says the auto is legit i'm prepared to buy it from you.

car customer: It's legit? Thats great, and now that I know it's legit I've reconsidered selling it to you and reconsidered buying your clunker, but thanks for doing all the leg work for me.

    End scene.

lol, instead, it goes something to this effect :

Buyer buys car at a good deal and is happy. Corvette nets almost $3000. Nam is still bitter and miserable.

Well, at least you still get to stick the buyer in a $12K car for 15K...and he gets to keep the sock, LOL...

I'm not sure the lady actually gave him her socks, lol. I completed the deal with the gentlemen. He paid a deposit and agreed on a $14,400 price for the car. I told him that the authenticators couldn't render an opinion rather than telling him they said likely not genuine. I offered to send the ball in for him on my dime if he wanted authentication but he declined since he didn't know about the authentication process before all of this anyway. He said he'd most likely give it to his grandson and let him do what he wanted with it. Fair enough.
  • It might have been nice of you to let the gentleman know that it came back "not likely authentic" so he could start his own research. The guy's gonna leave it to his grandson thinking it's legit and "family heirloom" to pass down. I guess I would have been honest with him. Oh wait, your a car salesman, hahah, just kidding about that.

"...I told him that the authenticators couldn't render an opinion rather than telling him they said likely not genuine..."

    ////////////////////////////////

Everybody deals with "uncomfortable" situations differently.

Breaking bad news to somebody who was about to do an unrelated
and profitable biznez deal with me would be "uncomfortable."

Based on the guy's "giving it to the kid as an heirloom" tale, I would
have likely told him the truth.

OTOH, nothing that went down so far would prevent sending the
guy the email opinion AFTER the car deal is closed.

    ............................

BUT, critics of corvette's action should not forget that there is
at least some chance that the guy with the ball is a lying
scumbag who tries to pass counterfeit balls to everybody
    he meets.

yes, and I did consider telling him that it came back "likey not genuine" but that could have killed my relationship with the gentlemen and killed the sale or any future sales since he didn't understand the whole authentication deal in the first place. Instead I chose to offer to send it in for him and pay for it. And who knows, there is still a slim chance that on examination the signature is deemed legit, but I don't think the guy really cares about all that to be honest. I think he was just making conversation when he saw my cards on the desk. I honestly don't think he knows the ball isn't legit even if it is fake. It may be a clubhouse sig like some have suggested too.

In any case, the guy is happy, I'm happy and that little old lady that forges Mickey's signature and places it in socks is happy. image

Good observation. I'd be surprised though to see someone doing that with vintage AL balls.

Chances are even if the ball was legit the guy was not about to let it go.

Many people just like to talk a big game, he may even wanted Tommy to find out what it was worth for him.

As for the guy trying to off it as a counterfeit, that is possible too. IIRC the ball did have a major scuff or two.

In any event it did make the weekend a little livelier around here.

I glanced at about ten messages on this thread, and I'm just wondering if the car salesman (Kurt Russel from "Used Cars") and Steve (Sheldon from "Big Bang Theory") have gotten a room yet and made up?

CNote - Used Cars is one of my favorite movies ever. OMG when they film that commercial with "Marshall Lucky" I about die laughing.
