Fake silver kilo panda

CaptHenwayCaptHenway Posts: 32,236 ✭✭✭✭✭
ATTENTION CHICAGOLAND SILVER BUYERS::
.
Just had an Oriental gentleman in with a 2005 kilogram silver panda.
Was in a scratched up plastic case he could not get open.
Put it on our big jewelry buying scale and the whole thing, case
included, only weighed 612 grams or so. Probably chocolate inside.
.
He had a few Canadian silver coins with him that I bought.

Quite seriously, how do I know he was an Asian-American and not just an Asian?

At $14 an ounce, it better be some off the chain chocolate.image

asian or asian american is the more correct word. What you said would be like calling a black person a negro.

fake panda? Who would have guessed that? image

  • Other than weight....can you give us a quick education on what other indicators there are with the Fake Pandas?

Looked really good. It had all the correct inscriptions, unlike some of the fake Panda pieces that leave off part of the weight and fineness indications.

Whoever made this fake used a real coin to create his die or mold so you would expect all inscriptions and design elements to be accurate.

As my good Japanese friend likes to say, "rugs are oriental, people are asian".

Anyway, why in the world would someone go through the seemingly difficult and expensive task of creating almost perfect dies for a coin like that and then drop the ball on which metal to use? With lead so close in SG to silver, one would think that even if a core of just 50% lead were used, and the rest of the coin were silver, it would be MORE than a worthwhile scam to perpetrate. Especially considering the extra bit of numismatic value these large pandas carry above and beyond simple bullion price.

    You got to be kidding.
I wrote an article for the newspaper in a major black area here, and used the term "Negro" (capitalized of course) many times in it.
No one ever said anything bad to me about it. Of course my name wasn't mentioned any where in the article.
I'd write another one for that paper but a mob of blacks burned the newspaper building down right after that.

I wonder why they burned the place right after that?

I guess I get confused by the fact that people born in India, Pakistan, Iran, Iraq, Kuwait, Yemen, Saudi Arabia, Israel, Lebanon, Syria and most of Turkey are Asians. What is the politically correct way to refer to them?

If the purpose of language is communication, then I think that your politically correct language has failed that purpose.

I will tell Bob, our bookkeeper, that his grandson just born in Jerusalem is an Asian. He will be so proud.
