<< <i>I just got an opening bid on my 67 set for $199.95. Let's see where it goes from there. #150359526319 >>

Excellent ! Good luck. I wish I had the cash to get mine graded. $15 a pop plus shipping, and the quantity I have, Yikes!!!

So, what do I look for in a 67? No bag marks, no spots? >>

Very few dings or spots and bright and shiny.

  • << <i>There seems to be no pattern as to what boxes have DDRs and which don't. >>

There is a pattern for most f them. The 12 & 13 finds in 5/01 boxes may be an abberation as is the 1,2,3,4 showing up early and late. Wexler 6 & 7 are found in a day or 2 's run and nowhere else. Others like Wexler 5 must have lived forever as they are like flies. My theory is they use big bins and after the first few days run a second bin was brought in before the first was finished. The new bin was in front and got used up , then they finished the 1st bin off. Hence the gap. For the most part there is a discernable pattern. Notice in the first few weeks everyone said 9774 boxes sucked? Do some necropost hunting and everyone posted it was 4-27 to 4-30 9883 for the sweet spot. The best 2 boxes I've heard of were a 4-27 9774 and a 4-16 box (couldnt get inspector code). They both yeilded over 40 better coins but that includes the ddo and the die clashes along with the ddr's. The different inspectors do yeild different ddr's on the same date which shows some sort of delineation. There must be 2 packaging lines using different bins.

Does anyone wonder why the production of lp-2 boxes stopped for 3 weeks and when they fired up again in late may there was nothing in them anymore?? I think they saw they had a problem and I'll bet destroyed the rest of whatever was left in ddr's 1-13. Just a theory, but I do know they showed up in Detroit and pulled certain boxes from Detroit area banks when the adams double edge dollars were coming out there. They do have a pretty proactive approach to these things at times. They may have seen the problem with the bearing on the die hubber replaced it and destroyed whatever was left of the runs.
I have noticed some of the coins like wexler 17 & 27 seem to not be anywhere in any number. The one report I have of a find was from a 4-27 to 30 range box. The 17 was the only one from a sampling group of 5 boxes produced together.

Saw you were out of 65's on your bst post a few days ago at 120 also. Theres some action to be had in these coins even if the supposed coming promotions dont start for a while. I think your prices are on the spot for these guys.

I think so to. Maybe a hair low but we are getting the price established at this point. If I sell a couple of more I will raise the price.

Do you think I should stop selling them as a set and go individual?
  • PapiPapi Posts: 1,189 ✭✭
Isn't initially the price always high? Cash in while you can.
  • pitbosspitboss Posts: 8,643 ✭✭✭
    Oh, I intend to.

  • << <i>Isn't initially the price always high? Cash in while you can. >>

Not always. I own quite a few double edge adams and plan on holding them for a long time. I think they have 55/55 lincoln potential in the future. Only a couple plain edges though.

I think the formative prices may run up tremendously when the long awaited commercial promotion starts (at least long awaited for a lot of the forum members here). The boxes on Ebay have petered out quite a bit as have the number of singles for sale. I see some guys selling lots of them and think theyre getting out too early.
IF its promoed (sp?) hard enough it might hit the redbook. Wont hit next years since I believe thats already being edited. Might be too late for them to add it. It will probably garner a generic double die listing without doing 1-13. Figure it might have a -- for price due to the number of varieties, but for people with them it will be a good start. My investment currently is at the "play" level and not near serious, but if the promo looks good I might hit it hard.

True, the DDR dated boxes are on the rise.

What might we expect to see price wise for the promotion, and why hasn't John Doe taken out his own ad in Coin World or something?

Maybe he doesnt have them slabbed in sufficient numbers yet to sell through coinworld/numis news/ or sell to TV. I would expect he doesnt want to sell a 67 dr13 if he doesnt get any. The reason most of those guys sell slabbed stuff is twofold:
1: They dont have to try to figure out if returned items are the right variety/same coin
2: Most of those promo guys you could sell normal formative cents and tell them they were ddr whatever and they wouldnt have a clue
3: Theyre usually dumber than a rock, but can sell the heck out of coins, but always deal in a sure thing and very rarely presell anything except state quarters.
4: They dont trust us coin dealers since they dont trust themselves and think everyone thinks like they do.
    5: see 1-4
Thats my guess and others that I have talked to. As to prices I have no idea but guessed a few days ago. I think pitbosses prices are close.

5 NGC MS66 CDDR-001s sold yesterday for $10 each, very disappointing. They had to cost more than that to grade, yes?

Does the label mean that much?

2009 P NGC MS66 FORMATIVE YEARS DOUBLE DIE THUMB ERROR
  • It means that much yes.
These were bulk graded coins and were well under $10 to slab.
  • PapiPapi Posts: 1,189 ✭✭
But it's an obvious error, it's not microscopic. So, what's in the label?

  • << <i>So, what's in the label? >>

    About $50

Bad picture, bad title, bad description led to a Bad price! Nowhere is the error identified ie. WDDR-001. Just a bad job of selling and the seller has noone to blame but himself.
  • While I'm here people what do you think of this???

But I'm nowhere near the end all be all with stuff like this.

Really hard to tell what is going on with it.

Looks like sales have slowed again. Funny, there's a flurry of activity at higher than usual prices, then the same date gets no action.

    People on vacation?

I'm excited! I have had it confirmed that I have 2 proof DDR001's.

They will be off to ANACS in the morning.

That's the 1st time I've gotten a "you suck" award. Thanks!
  • I just came back from reading "Coin Talk" forum....Let me say how grateful I am to be a part of THIS forum....enough said on that

Anyway....I was trying to find out what was being discussed about the DDR's over there....I searched and searched.....absolutely NOTHING!

There is a thread about LP2 sets from the mint and how the mintage is higher then the LP1's and a minute by minute production report and yada, yada, yada

This is the ONLY mention of the DDR's I found and it is from 6/8:

"Now I see news about a series of double-die errors on the reverse of LP2. Lincoln has extra fingers. Multiple sales on ebay the last couple of days from $25 to $50 per coin. Oh the pain. To open and search the rolls or not."

Maybe it IS true that this forum is privy to this error/variety and the world isn't....Interesting to see what will happen when the ads for graded DDR's start appearing in Coin World and other publications (never mind the TV hawkers)

It could get very interesting image

I sure do agree with you. The coin world, with its millions of lincoln cent collectors, is not awake to the fact that we have quite an event going on with these coins.

I thought the news had already "hit the streets" with several Coin World articles.....???

  • << <i>I thought the news had already "hit the streets" with several Coin World articles. >>

My Coin World reference was to big store ads selling ANACS graded DDR's for prices that would make collectors wake up....not the $3-4 ungraded rejects

The incompletely informed collector only sees these low prices and moves on to more important discussions like "Anyone see a new dime yet??"
  • pitbosspitboss Posts: 8,643 ✭✭✭

Once they wake up," it's Katy bar the door". so be ready.

  • This
may get some attention for the lincoln errors if it get reported to the media..............

Let's hope not. Let us pick up some cheap first
  • pitbosspitboss Posts: 8,643 ✭✭✭

Good luck at picking them up cheap, you may get lucky and catch someone not realizing what they have.

I just sent my 2 off to ANACS today with 5 day grading, express mail.

I'm hoping for a better grade than MS67 but you never know with errors.

I think that one on ebay right now is going too cheap but it may go up before closing.

If it is as reported that they caught that bad die part way into the run and pulled it, they may have destroyed any they found.

If that happened there will not be many of these and you know what that will do.
  • PapiPapi Posts: 1,189 ✭✭
Then how do you account for finding yours?
  • pitbosspitboss Posts: 8,643 ✭✭✭

    I got lucky!

Ordered 3 sets from the mint. I then decided that I wanted some more because the quarters were going to be a low mintage and ordered 10 more. I don't know which ones were the error coins.

I doubt the mint has any more and feel the only way you can pick one up now is to hope someone doesn't realize what he has and sells one.

Many of whatever has been released will not be checked for years because they will be put away for future generations is my belief.

The prices should rise. ( I hope.)

I hope you find some, I'm lucky and have mine so I am not going to look for any more.
  • PapiPapi Posts: 1,189 ✭✭
They only made 3k of these proof sets?
  • pitbosspitboss Posts: 8,643 ✭✭✭

We don't know. I have heard that they pulled the damaged die somewhere in the production run of 9000 hits . I don.t know where in the run or if they destroyed what they could find but I have not heard of a great many finds as of yet. Maybe people are being quiet and trying to buy up everything they can on ebay. I sure don't have the answers.
  • PapiPapi Posts: 1,189 ✭✭
The mint updated their LP2 orders again to "Product will be available for shipping 08/02/2009", but when you try to order them it says "backordered".

I'm surprised, with the release of the LP3 on 8/13
  • pitbosspitboss Posts: 8,643 ✭✭✭
Don't be surprised at anything the mint does and don't order any more , it will be a waste of time and money.

All I have been buying lately is rolls that have errors showing on them with great success . My luck seemed to run out on 2 roll set is why I switched. It is costing me less per error now than it was.

Plus you don't have to store or sell those pesky Denver coins.
