After reading this thread pretty consistently over the past few weeks and promising myself I was going to complete my auto set via Ebay vs. ripping packs, I finally broke down Sunday and drove to the Target here in Birmingham. They didn't have any sealed boxes, just 1 open box with 12 packs left, so I bought them all @ 2.99 a pop.
1 black (Bobby Parnell RC) 2 A&G back (Joba and Troy Tulowitski) 1 Hoax (Cardiff Giant) 2 SP Minis (Nick Swisher and Justin Duchscherer) nothing else to speak of
This was my first time opening A&G packs. One of my 12 packs didn't have a mini or any other hit to speak of, the pack was basically a card short. Despite that, I think the fever is setting in. Looking for hobby boxes on Ebay as we speak.
Also, I know a few of you have mentioned quality issues. I visited our local card shop here in Birmingham on Saturday and the co-owner had recently pulled the Cust wood card. Fresh out of the pack and 2 of the corners were damaged (not sure how corners get dinged on a wood card, but I saw it) and the card had very visable surface flaws as well. He was pissed and was planning to ask Topps to reproduce the 1/1 for him. I thought that was funny.
Kevin is sending me a Zagunis and a Cust which I believe will make #26 & #27. "B" prices are coming down so I'm still getting those pretty inexpensively, but I'm beginning to wonder how long it will take to finish the "A" group. I haven't even seen any on Ebay in like a week. And I can't figure out why people are stilll paying $50 for Billy the Martin. I'll just be short the Phelps and the Marlin if that price holds.
I actually think that A autos were getting less money when the product came out and when the "49" announcement came out they spiked. Ginter is always a very popular auto set. Good Luck with it!
Since the 5 Walmart blasters were good to me yesterday I decided to try the next closest Walmart in hopes that those blasters came from the same case, 5 blaster rip reports to follow.
I finally got around to sorting and sorting and more sorting, and have even managed a couple of trades already (thanks guys) - here's the first of what I'm sure will be many versions of my trade list:

Just received my retail & jumbo case today. I opened 1 jumbo pack-1 mini, 1 base SP, 1 Pride , 9 base cards-uh oh this may not be a great purchase. More details later.
Mcadams , I'll have some autos available after all is opened. Basically I'm keeping Red Sox autos and Tunnicliffe. Also I've had probably 6 blaster packs with no minis.

Thats pretty par for the course for blaster boxes. All cards 301 and above are short prints.
Has it ever been confirmed that rip cards with a lower number of versions (like that Mantle) have better odds at a bigger hit if ripped? Based on prices (for unripped cards) that would seem to be the case, but it would certainly be interesting to know. Sure a Mantle card numbered to 5 is a nice card in and of itself, but isn't a good portion of the price based on what might be inside?
saw some of those "fat" packs the other day. good to know they have something in them at times. noticing that this year doesnt have as many "hits" (at least decent ones) per box as years before. blasters are really hit and miss - mostly miss. better off just buying singles off ebay i guess. bummer. still managed to open a few more recently- here's an update of what i have - lookin for adrian gonalez or trevor hoffman parallel minis:

1. Tell us a little bit about you – where you are from, who you collect, etc.? I was born in Baltimore, Md., and grew up in the suburbs of Baltimore, the city of Glen Burnie. I am an only child. I am one-quarter Chinese and three-quarters American. I started to collect baseball cards when I was 10, my first card was a 1969 Topps Johnny Bench second-year card and my first set was 1987 Topps. My favorite player was Reggie Jackson after I found out he played for the Orioles for a single season in 1976. I still collect Reggie Jackson cards but besides that I collect Leon Day, a Hall of Famer and star player of the Negro Leagues who lived in Baltimore, and mostly rookie cards, autographed cards and game-used cards.
There was a big post on the FCB about Wong trying to get his 1/1 wood card. He only wanted to pay 125 but the seller was looking for twice that. He wound up getting the card.

The guy actually wanted $350. The owner of the shop in which the card was pulled contact Jason and said he had a client who had pulled it. Jason said he could pay $125. The guy wouldn't budge on his price...so, supposedly, the owner of the shop paid the remainder of the asking price so Jason could get it. That can't be confirmed, who knows how much was really paid, but, in the end, he got his card.

The SP's are 301-350 in the base, AG back, Black borders, & regular minis. The tough mini subsets are Extinct creatures & Future Inventions. Creatures of Legend, myth etc. are fairly tough, Hoaxes are easy, National Heroes in between

1. Tell us a little bit about you – where you are from, who you collect, etc.?
I was born in Baltimore, Md., and grew up in the suburbs of Baltimore, the city of Glen Burnie. I am an only child. I am one-quarter Chinese and three-quarters American. I started to collect baseball cards when I was 10, my first card was a 1969 Topps Johnny Bench second-year card and my first set was 1987 Topps. My favorite player was Reggie Jackson after I found out he played for the Orioles for a single season in 1976. I still collect Reggie Jackson cards but besides that I collect Leon Day, a Hall of Famer and star player of the Negro Leagues who lived in Baltimore, and mostly rookie cards, autographed cards and game-used cards.

The guy actually wanted $350. The owner of the shop in which the card was pulled contact Jason and said he had a client who had pulled it. Jason said he could pay $125. The guy wouldn't budge on his price...so, supposedly, the owner of the shop paid the remainder of the asking price so Jason could get it. That can't be confirmed, who knows how much was really paid, but, in the end, he got his card.

The tough mini subsets are Extinct creatures & Future Inventions.
Creatures of Legend, myth etc. are fairly tough, Hoaxes are easy, National Heroes in between
