Bob, it's not going to happen. Joe made it very clear to me that in order to get the FIVE DOLLAR rate, we would need to bump up the number to higher than what we submitted in the last group submission - which was 479 cards.
500 cards 5 or 6 times a year doesn't get us anything better than $5/card. That is already $2/card LESS than the stated rates!
From what I understand, we would need to commit to submitting about 2000 cards on a MONTHLY basis to qualify for anything lower than $5. I did not get this figure from Joe, it is a figure I've heard from multiple sources, however.
We're not at that level - not even close - so it's time for us to say THANK YOU JOE for giving us a deal as it stands and stop asking for more. >>
Craig, I suggest that you ask Joe, can we try 1,000 cards for $4 a pop? There is no harm in asking him that! You might want to mention that there is a good chance we can do it on a monthly basis.
Think of it this way! If he says YES! We could have the cards for around $5 delivered! That would be perfect for us here! I think we could do 2000 cards. (If you wanted to handle it! ...A lot to ask you to do! I think Joe would go for it! Tell him we can try for 2000 cards, and at least 1000 to 1500 at a minimum! He will say yes! I think!) Craig, you have nothing to lose! And you just might be surprised! my 2 cents! (p.s. thanks for 'offering-up your services'!)
<< <i>Craig, I suggest that you ask Joe, can we try 1,000 cards for $4 a pop? There is no harm in asking him that! You might want to mention that there is a good chance we can do it on a monthly basis >>
From PSA's standpoint, this would not make good business sense. Why would they allow us to sub any random card that they would normally get anyway for twice the price?

Bill, I disagree! I think it would make good business sense to Joe to allow us to slab many 1000s of extra cards via group rips. And $4 is a fair price for us.
Times are tough for many. And to be able to sub 100 cards for about $500 delivered is cool for CU and cool for us! Just 20 of us with 100 cards would do it Bill!
rd
P.S. Bill, why don't you call Joe and ask? At $4 I would commit at least 100 cards and I'm sure many other here would also! And by the time we got around to another group rip, I'd probally have another 100 ready! (That's 8000 bucks for PSA! not too shabby!)
<< <i>P.S. Bill, why don't you call Joe and ask? At $4 It would commit at least 100 cards. And by the time got around to another group rip, I'd probally have another 100! >>
Bob, let's cross those bridges when we get to them. So far we have ONE group submission of 479 cards under our belt. I'm not going to promise a monthly commitment of 1000 cards to Joe or anyone else. If you'd like to participate with the group submission as it has been set up based on my agreement with Joe, then welcome aboard. If not, please stop clogging up this thread with wild-eyed ideas about what you think we're entitled to.
Joe agreed to $5/card with the agreement that we submit more than 479 cards this time. He's already knocked 28.5% off of their price. I'm not going to ask him to cut his price almost in half. If you don't like that, I'm sorry. I don't mean to sound crass, but I'm not going to contact Joe again to ask for ANOTHER price break.
If you're not on this list and would like to participate, please let me know. I will be happy to send you instructions for participating. I will keep everyone updated every step of the way on this thread. If anyone has any questions, please feel free to add them here or send me a PM.
edited to add: I would like to receive all cards for this submission no later than Monday, March 2nd.
<< <i>in the last sub-i think i submitted 3 cards for i think like $24 bucks, i think, bill would know better and for this one maybe 3 more but at 16.00 to ship + $5/card i'm over $10/ card. its probably not worth it for me since the cards aren't big value just stuff i want slabbed. not a problem though, maybe i'll get in next time. it is a great service you are doing, and who knows maybe i'll find a couple of cards that are worth the price. or i'll just get board and get in anyway, but i think some of the smaller subs 2-6 cards it won't work out for them. thanks fred >>
Ok, here's a perfect example. If you submit 3 cards, Fred, you would pay $5/card ($15) plus $16.50. Your total, up front costs would be $31.50.
Now let's say we get 1,000 cards. 3 cards out of 1,000 is 0.3% of the total submission. Estimating the total shipping, insurance & handling rate that PSA would charge for the total submission to be $256.30 (1,000 cards at $0.21 per card, plus $46.30 per the chart), you would only be responsible for 0.3% of that amount (approximately $0.77). I would then determine your shipping cost for 3 graded cards to Carbondale, PA. A 6oz package from Milwaukee to Carbondale, insured for $50 with Delivery Confirmation would be $4.47.
I would then add together the $0.77 (your part of return shipping from PSA), plus the amount it will cost me to return them to you of $4.47 along with whatever 0.3% of what it will cost for me to ship and insure 1,000 cards to PSA (which will be no more than $0.77 for you) and you'd get a refund of $10.49. In the end, you will have paid $21.01 to get 3 cards graded and returned to you. That's $7 per card.
If you sent those same 3 cards to PSA directly, it would cost you $15/card for $45 plus $16.50 shipping...or $20.50 per card. >>
For the record, I'm still in for 20+ cards. My initial post wasn't meant to complain about the shipping, only that the $1 a card would be easier for Craig, and certainly easier than the above example which will have to be figured for 25+ orders. But I did say, as long as you're getting a refund, it doesn't get any more FAIR than that.
Thanks, Craig, for stepping up and putting this together.
