    <<< Just received mine...

    Beautiful box...disappointing coin..

On the eagle side there are pits on the rim above the word UNITED.
I noticed it immediately when looking at the coin with my 56 yr old eyes. >>>

Hmmmm.........disappointing indeed! Apparently the mint is relaxing quality control to produce as many as possible and just get them out the door. I know others here have also expressed diasappointment and sub-standard quality control on these new UHR coins.

So let's see here, the companion books were apparently of poor quality and are not being shipped with the coins, now some of the coins themselves are of sub-standard quality, erroneous letters from the US Mint have gone out telling people their CC billing address didn't match their shipping address, numerous US Mint emails stating proposed shipping dates which were all false, the Mint not adhering to their written FIFO shipping policy, expensive US Mint shipments just being left at peoples door steps by UPS with no signature or other proof of delivery required, etc, etc.

Quite an impressive performance by the US Mint regarding the new UHR coin program, 'eh?

edited to add: Now add SM1 to the list of those who received a sub-standard UHR coin image
  • Dragon, I agree wholly. A statement by the Mint might read:

The US Mint is extremely proud of it's new Ultra High Relief Double Eagle Coin. No expense has been spared in developing and minting the world's most beautiful coin. Containing one ounce of pure gold and housed in an exquisite mahogany display case this piece will be a family heirloom for centuries. Please be home on the day you expect your order as it is being shipped as cheaply as possible and with no safeguards to protect it from loss or damage.

My magazines get better attention than gold coins I order from the mint. WTF?

Order 308285xx @ 12:31pm- rec'd today - very impressive box and coin, very happy!!

    Order 308298xx @ 12:38pm- rec'd today - Mom's order/coin, unopened, will report quality later when seen.

Worth the wait! What an impressive creation! To bad they can't do more imaginative things like this in the future.

Okay. So we wait for what seems like forever to get our coins. Then when they do come, they are substandard!? image I have yet to recieve mine. I must say, the anticipation about getting the coin has now turned to how will it look when I do get it. Moreover, if I get the coin just prior to the PCGS cut off, I have no choice now but to open it to look at it. I can't risk send a possible substandard coin for a First Strike only to have it come back MS66 or less.

I am curious, SportsMod....what are your plans with the coin you recieved?

  • LO` FOLKS,
The reasom you are not able to track your packages on the UPS Tracking system, with the tracking number is because it has not been picked up at the PB warehouse yet. They assign it a tracking number before the UPS Driver picks it up. You should be able to pick up on it later today, HOPEFULLY??? FEDEX was much better organised than UPS! Good luck to ALL. CHAS.

Obverse is gorgeous but I also have the pitting on the rim above America... Oh well, I guess I won't be sending this one off for grading, but a beautiful coin nonetheless.

WHAT'S THE DEAL!!!! Can anybody tell me ?? My order # is 3084**** What happened??? Where's my coin???
The bitterness of "Poor Quality" is remembered long after the sweetness of low price is forgotten.
  • My friend just brought over his coin to show me. Nice. He thinks the oreder number was 3087XXXX. It prompted me to call the Mint's automated tracking system and share my pain with him. Got a new message. Said my order was in process. Used to say being processed. The message then added that additional checks on my address and CC information are being performed for my protection. My protection from whom I wonder? I placed the order. I supplied the CC number. I require no protection from myself. Are they suddenly protecting this item that by all reprts is being dropped on doorsteps or left in the snow? I waited inpatiently for a Rep and got another uninformed goon who told me to expect my coin anytime between now and 4/24 and to have a great day and that there was no problem with the order and that my CC had been authorized 3 1/2 weeks ago. She layed off blame on the warehouse. I asked if anybody from her department had thought to check with the warehouse and she said there is no communication between her office and there and if I don't receive the coin by 4/24 to be sure and call back.

These are the folks who are going to straighten out the banking, insurance, real estate, and health care systems.

Edit. I called again and my order status is back to being process and ended with the 4-6 week statement as opposed to the problem with my CC and address. What a bunch of boobs.

Ok I have taken solace in that fact that at least I ordered them when the price was $1189.00. Who knows, maybe I will get them next week and still make a small premium on one and keep the other.

First of all, you sound crazier than a hound dog!

Regarding the location of your UHR:

There is a fifth dimension beyond that which is known to man. It is a dimension as vast as space and as timeless as infinity. It is the middle ground between light and shadow, between science and superstition, and it lies between the pit of man's fears and the summit of his knowledge. This is the dimension of imagination. It is an area which we call the Twilight Zone.

Interesting that at least the location is somewhat explained - I just got off the phone with a mint rep and here is what he said about the current state of shipping: "There is nothing wrong with your UHR set. Do not attempt to adjust the Situation. We are controlling transmission. We will control the communication. We will control the dissemination of information. We can delay the information; make it flutter. We can change the situation to a soft blur or sharpen it to crystal clarity. For the next 6-9 months, sit quietly and we will control all that you see and hear. We repeat: there is nothing wrong with your UHR set. You are about to participate in a great adventure. You are about to experience the awe and mystery which reaches from the inner mind to the outer limits (PBGS).

I'll be keeping this one raw in the box. Regardless of the imperfections which I used a 10X loupe to notice, and the black "stuff" wiped off the reverse without any detrimental effect, it is still an awe inspiring package. The box is a work of art in itself.

My daughter's arrived this AM as well and she's overnighting. With any luck, this one will be worthy of a FS slab. It was my intention to keep one raw in the box anyway.

I called the mint to check on my subscriptions. I did not even want to ask about my UHR. My presidential proof sets have been processed. My Harrison presidential dollars have been processed. My second order of Lincoln Commemoratives have been processed. The rep asked me if i would like to know about my UHR which is in the system. I said WHY NOT? She stated it was shipped this morning would you like a tracking number? AMAZING !!! Now i have to camp out at the post office and wait.
