Repeated and sustained overuse of the chemical agents in hair dye has rendered him unable to sign.

No surprise on the McCarver Nam, the guy is a turd.

A few weeks ago my wife and I were at Fenway for the Yanks/Sox series and we went behind the stadium so she could try to meet some Yanks.

McCarver was dropped off by a livery and out of the 20 or so of us standing there, ONE woman walked up to him and asked for his autograph.

His reply, "No" and kept walking. I could understand if all of us rushed him, but one polite lady asked and he said no? What a tool!

In fairness it needs to be said that for years and years Tim answered hs mail and signed in person and was actually very pleasant on most occasions.

First off, I agree that Tim should have signed for the women and there really can't be any good reason why he couldn't. Don't understand why he acting that way unless she had 5 baseballs and said she needed all of the signed. That being said, you guys better be very careful about saying anything negative about any athlete, current or former or any celebrity figure that doesn't sign an autograph. Most people here put these celebrities on a throne and they are too be treated like GODS. Many people that post here believe that nobody has to sign anything and if your lucky to get one....your in possesion of a piece of gold!! If they don't sign, simply smile and give them some wide eyed compliments and be sure to thank them for their time and for "trying" to sign for you.

Huh? Nobody is a god and nobody owes anybody an autograph. Sometimes people sign and sometimes they don't. Smile and move on.

You're right. Clearly instead of doing that I should have worked at my brother's bar all night, made $12.72, and come home to my family drunk.....again.

I got a nice surprise in the mail today, two actually. Back in September of 2009 (Sept. 14th to be exact), I sent a TTM to Luis Tiant. When November came around I figured the first one was gone so I sent another. After 2010 rolled around I just figured they weren't coming back. Well 1 day before the 1 year anniversary of sending the first one, both showed up. Thank you Mr. Tiant.

Nick .. the Tiants look nice ... MAYBE I still have a little bit of hope ... I sent my TTM to Tiant on June 3, 2009 and am still waiting for a return. Hoping that he signed a whole bunch and mine are on their way back!!!! (Not holding my breath!)

    Nick,

That is a great looking Irvin. It is pretty awesome that a player of his stature still signs TTM for such a small fee.

Well the card cost me $25 to start, but even with that, yes it was a great deal.
  • Monte is one of the most UNDERAPPRECIATED treasures of baseball that is still living. He was a STAR in the Negro Leagues when the Negro Leagues was at its peak. He can basically speak on every player from the mid 1930's and up. I had the great fortune of spending a day with him a few years ago and I can just say that he is a Hall of Famer as a PERSON. I interviewed him a few years ago and he gave me 30 minutes of his time on the phone, which is rare for a Hall of Famer for a small time writer.

The Giants FINALLY retired his number. Read about his retirement ceremony here. Video of the entire ceremony is also linked there.

Got another nice TTM today that showed up after being out 399 days. With an impressive 200 victories as a head coach in the NFL, Marty Schottenheimer.

Just catching up. Nice Irvin. Nice Schottenheimer. Keep 'em coming!

So when Canton calls asking if you will donate your signed VG Schottenheimer RC for their exhibit, are you going to give it up?
  • Dpeck100Dpeck100 Posts: 10,912 ✭✭✭✭✭
That is wild, 399 days. That may give a clue as to how much fan mail some of these guys get.

That just adds to the appeal of the auto in my book.

    Good luck with the others.

That grade might be a little too conservative for Schottenheimer.

It has been 13 months since any updates for this thread, so I will consider all outstanding cards as lost. I did get a new edition via Dick Gordon Sports who had a signing with hall of famer Carl Yastrzemski.

Congrats on the Yaz. Nice addition. A Yaz rookie was one of the first cards I ever spent over $10 on. I bought one at a cardshow in the 80's and was so proud of that card.
