Not to rain on your parade but half those guys haven't signed in a while.I have had good luck with Sutton and Niekro is only $10.Kell,Doerr and Sparky Anderson are automatic. Mike
Do you use a form letter to send along with the cards? Or do you write a more personalized request?
Thanks >>
I've been typing up a flattering letter, and changing it slightly each time to tailor it to the player. It's a little much, but hopefully it's a nice read for them and induces them to sign.
<< <i>I would be very interested in seeing your finished letter Nick. Just curious how thick you poured it on. lol

This is for a potential Hall of Famer:
Dear Mr. Blyleven,
Baseball has always been my favorite sport, and I can still remember going to one of my first Yankee games with my dad back in 1973 when I was 6 and you were the starting pitcher that day for the Minnesota Twins. You beat the Yankees and Fritz Peterson 9 to 1 with a complete game. It wasn’t a total loss for this 6 year old because my favorite player, Thurman Munson, was able to get 3 hits that day. That was your 11th win on your way to 20 wins that year, and I always remembered my dad telling me that you were a great young pitcher with excellent control. As I look back on baseball statistics (a favorite hobby of mine) it’s easy to see that my dad was right about you. No matter what any committee thinks or doesn’t think, please know that my dad and I (and so many others I’m sure) applaud your enormous contributions to the great game that we love.
I have enclosed with this letter my copy of your 1971 rookie baseball card in the hope that you would be able to find a moment to sign it for me. I have also enclosed a small donation for you, or for the charity of your choice; I only wish that it could be more. Be well, and I wish you and your family all the best in the new year.
Baseball has always been my favorite sport, and I can still remember watching one my first All Star games with my dad back in 1978 when you made the team as an outfielder in your home stadium of San Diego and you went 1 for 2 with a run scored. My dad told me a little about each player as they came up to bat, and I always remember that he told me what a great slugger you were already at such a young age. As I look back on baseball statistics (a favorite hobby of mine) it’s easy to see why you’re a member of the Baseball Hall of Fame, and the 12 All Star selections, 6 Silver Slugger Awards, and winning the Roberto Clemente Award in 1994 is a great testament to that honor. Please know that my dad and I (and so many others I’m sure) applaud your enormous contributions to the great game that we love.
I have enclosed with this letter my copy of your 1974 rookie card in the hope that if you had a chance you would be able to find a moment to sign it for me. Be well, and I wish you and your family all the best in this new year.
Just found a nice mid grade 1972 Dave Kingman rookie to add to the list and send out tomorrow. Not really a star, and will never be a hall of fame candidate, but he was my favorite player growing up, and 1972 is my favorite set, so it seems like a win win.
After a little bit of a dry spell, today I received four envelopes addressed to me in my own handwriting. I have updated the dates on my original post to show when sent and when received. Anyone who knows if the Molitor and Valenzuela look good or not please chime in.
Nick, I'm really enjoying your thread and thanks very much for posting a couple of sample letters. I have a ton of raw HOF cards that I was hoping to start going TTM's.
Not sure where you sent the Molitor to, but at a recent signing I was at, he said he would rather have any requests sent to the Twins instead of his home. Just a heads-up for anyone thinking of trying to get him TTM in the near future.
Back to back mail days for me as I found a successful Dave Kingman autograph in my mailbox today. Unfortunately Goose Gossage sent my card back with a note.
Nick, I put $10 in with that ball I just got back yesterday from Goose. Was returned in 10 days all signed beautifully. Highly recommend you end it back to him with the $$.

Mike
how do i get the cost to send with the cards
<< <i>Not to rain on your parade but half those guys haven't signed in a while..... >>
It's OK Michael, I have an umbrella. For the cost of 2 stamps, they were all worth a try.
Do you use a form letter to send along with the cards? Or do you write a more personalized request?
Thanks
Looking for Charlie (Charley) Maxwell cards.
