Merry Christmas Red Sox fans. It's a done deal. I wonder how that third ring is going to look on Big Papi's hand next year

ESPN News just reported at 3:20 Eastern he has agreed to terms with the Yankees. No joke.
Interesting - things are happening fast.
Washington Times reported a little while ago that he may have signed with the Bosox.
Text
Three sources claimed by Olney.
Edit: Signing with Boston ain't what I just saw on the news. But yes, Merry Xmas.

Big Papi is currently wiping the premature ejaculate from his underpants.

Also, since the Boresox hold spring training here and recently extorted more than 80 mill (or more) from our county for a new facility in bad economic times, I say -
Go Yanks!!!!
This might as well be Texiera! or CC! or AJ!
Is Texeira and Teixeira different players? Maybe EF tossed us a loop de loop!???
Manny??????

You seem to be a one trick pony. Are you perhaps a little envious? Pigs will fly before the Yankees file for Chapter 11.

May the Curse of Carl Pavano fall upon thee!!!
For some odd reason, I am glad they got Tex and not Manny.
GO YANKEES!
You truly are a wreck, edmundfitzgerald. BTW, I think he's called "Big Popeye" -- what's a Papi?
<< <i>Is there a hidden oil field under the Yankee stadium or something? They just spent almost $400 million in one month! Add in the rediculous contract A-Rod just got and you are talking $650 MILLION!!! This is absolutely absurd! >>
They unloaded some dead weight contracts such as Giambi, Abreau, and Pavano which freed up some cash, plus they get the extra revenue from the sumptious new stadium.
Somewhere in Modesto a man is flogging himself while kneeling in front of an altar to Arod.

The legend lives on from the Chippewa on down
Of the big lake they call Gitche Gumee
The lake, it is said, never gives up her dead
When the skies of November turn gloomy.
With a load of iron ore - 26,000 tons more
Than the Edmund Fitzgerald weighed empty
That good ship and true was a bone to be chewed
When the gales of November came early
The ship was the pride of the American side
Coming back from some mill in Wisconson
As the big freighters go it was bigger than most
With a crew and the Captain well seasoned.
Concluding some terms with a couple of steel firms
When they left fully loaded for Cleveland
And later that night when the ships bell rang
Could it be the North Wind they'd been feeling.
The wind in the wires made a tattletale sound
And a wave broke over the railing
And every man knew, as the Captain did, too,
T'was the witch of November come stealing.
The dawn came late and the breakfast had to wait
When the gales of November came slashing
When afternoon came it was freezing rain
In the face of a hurricane West Wind
When supper time came the old cook came on deck
Saying fellows it's too rough to feed ya
At 7PM a main hatchway caved in
He said fellas it's been good to know ya.
The Captain wired in he had water coming in
And the good ship and crew was in peril
And later that night when his lights went out of sight
Came the wreck of the Edmund Fitzgerald.
Does anyone know where the love of God goes
When the words turn the minutes to hours
The searchers all say they'd have made Whitefish Bay
If they'd fifteen more miles behind her.
They might have split up or they might have capsized
They may have broke deep and took water
And all that remains is the faces and the names
Of the wives and the sons and the daughters.
Lake Huron rolls, Superior sings
In the ruins of her ice water mansion
Old Michigan steams like a young man's dreams,
The islands and bays are for sportsmen.
And farther below Lake Ontario
Takes in what Lake Erie can send her
And the iron boats go as the mariners all know
With the gales of November remembered.
In a musty old hall in Detroit they prayed
In the Maritime Sailors' Cathedral
The church bell chimed, 'til it rang 29 times
For each man on the Edmund Fitzgerald.
The legend lives on from the Chippewa on down
Of the big lake they call Gitche Gumee
Superior, they say, never gives up her dead
When the gales of November come early.

Liquidating my collection for the 3rd and final time. Time for others to enjoy what I have enjoyed over the last several decades. Money could be put to better use.

I think the first time I have agreed with mark .... come on Steve. The Yankees are loaded second Great Depression or not. Please yell at MLB and not a team playing by their rules.

Opps! Ya know what, I'm just gonna call him "Tex" like everyone else.

That is over 10 years or something like that, actually from what I heard on the TV the Yanks payroll is less this year then last. Last yr it was 209 this yr (thus far) it is 200Mil.

You say "articles" on the horizon about Chapter 11 for the Yankees. By whom? No nothing pundits?
I respect your opinion. Do you respect mine that you are way off base? The Yankees are NOT headed for Chapter 11. That is an easy call hideous economy or not.

They'll avoid Chapter 11 only if they get their players to renegotiate their contracts. The unions in the car industry did it so anything is possible. If the players won't renegotiate, the basic alternative would be Chapter 11 or sell the team for cheap to somebody with deep pockets who is willing to absorb the losses until the contracts expire. This is all quite easy to see - a no brainer really...it's management totally out of control...I've seen it before with other businesses, and the ending is predictable.
Anybody know the over-under date on the Chapter 11?
or how it effects MLB in general I do know that I can no longer afford to go to a Yankee game.
Between 1995 and 2001 I had a season ticket plan. Beside pricing me out the new stadium will have 10,000 LESS seats.

And I don't want to sound like Yogi and say "Nobody goes there anymore because it's too crowded" - but I do believe that the Yankees will need to reduce ticket prices and other things because it will be too expensive, and attendance and revenue will decline if they don't reduce prices during this economic downturn, and so how are they gonna go about doing that and pay these exorbitant salaries at the same time? The bottom line is they can't. This isn't college economics here - this is 5th grade or less economics, and it's obvious that the Yankees management aren't smarter than a 5th grader.
<< <i>Steve you really are looking foolish with this chapter 11 talk.
Steve >>
I thought you just stated you aren't smart enough to see into the future so how do you know if this is foolish or not? LOL
I think last year alone they made enough money there to pay all the salaries. This is bigger then you can imagine.
They get money for the sale of items with the yankee logo on it. Rest assured they have people in the front office
that know a lil more then you.
Stop making retarded statements that this is 5th grade economics etc, you really have no idea.
If you want to whine about how much they spend that is one thing, don't try and be an economics professor here.
Steve
<< <i>Steve one thing you neglected to speak about is the simple fact that the Yanks own the TV rights to their product.

Yea Steve, like no other "New York" companies haven't gotten in trouble lately, and even collapsed? If you think this can't happen to the Yankees in an economy that is crumbling, the way the Yankees are spending money like crazy, then you are indeed mistaken.
<< <i>stevek,
It would be one thing if you were spewing all this nonsense based on some reasonably hard numbers and even a summarized breakdown of their future cash flow, but your totally flying blind and arriving at HUGE conclusions without any basis for you claims other than some very general comments about a souring economy. The overwhelming majority of Fortune 500 companies are making money, most of them substantial amounts. If the Yanks need to file bankruptcy, rest assured that the entire U.S. will probably be thrown into the stone age by that point. >>
Yes, the "overwhelming majority of Fortune 500 companies are making money" but that is misleading because you know what the stock market has been like, and the ones making money now will not be making money in the near future unless they lower their costs which is why there have been so many layoffs lately. So your comment is erroneous to this conversation - Show me one, just one Fortune 500 company that has raised salaries like the Yankees are doing? You can't of course - Case closed.
Cmon guys didn't you know he is all knowing?
