Significant bump in the road? It reminds me of the 2000 team losing Game One of the Finals to the 76ers, then ripping off four straight...

I didn't see the game so I can't comment on it other than saying it's only game 1 and 6 more to go. Let's see if the Lakers show up and if Houston can answer the Lakers adjustments.
You know.. If Artest threw an elbow at Kobe's throat, he would have been kicked out and suspended the next game.
Just sayin'

<< <i>You know.. If Artest threw an elbow at Kobe's throat, he would have been kicked out and suspended the next game.

the league needs to get this suspension right. Kobe has to miss game 3. I'd say employing officials who aren't Kobe fans would be a good idea too. >>
If the league doesn't suspend Kobe and Fisher then it's additional proof that the game is rigged. Just another reason why my interest in the NBA has become next to nothing. I'm sure people will accuse me of being jaded and bitter from a loss.. That's cool, no problem but you really should read the rules first:
<< <i>EXCEPTION: Rule 12A--Section V--l(5) l. A player, coach or trainer must be ejected for: (1) A punching foul (2) A fighting foul (3) An elbow foul which makes contact above shoulder level (4) An attempted punch which does not make contact (5) Deliberately entering the stands other than as a continuance of play >>
So Kobe throws an elbow, above the shoulders, and Artest gets ejected.
So basically my kid won't be able to go to college, but at least I'll have a set where the three most expensive cards are of a player I despise ~ CDsNuts
1. Fronting Yao is totally taking him out of the game- keep doing it. 2. Guard play around Kobe is falling apart. Ariza can't hit a 3, Farmar barely gets burn, Fisher should? be suspended for game 3, Shannon Brown is nobody.
At least Kobe's elbow was in the heat of battle... Fisher was a deliberate cheap shot and he should be gone for game 4. Pressure is back on Houston... it's a 5 game series now, HOU home court advantage.
<< <i>Lakers up 2 to 1. Where's all the haters??????? >>
Recovering from a really bad hangover.
So Artest gets thrown out, again, after a good, hard foul and gets slapped with a Tech 2. I'm shocked they didn't assess the same after striking Kobe's poor elbow with his throat.
: eye roll :
So basically my kid won't be able to go to college, but at least I'll have a set where the three most expensive cards are of a player I despise ~ CDsNuts
I don't feel that Kobe's elbow warranted suspension. Artest was already on Kobe and hounding him high for that entire sequence, Kobe's elbow barely even came up and made much contact with Artest. However I do feel that Artest's ejection was a product of his rep and nothing more, he did nothing to warrant ejection.
The flagrant 2 of Artest on Gasol in game 3 was a bad call. Shooting foul or flagrant 1 AT WORST... he made a play on the ball IMO and it wasn't excessive.
Yao Ming is now done for the playoffs. I hate to see anyone get injured and miss the playoffs, but it's part of the game. Hopefully the Lakers will take care of business and win the next 2 games so they can get some rest.
Since we lost Mutumbo last round, we no longer have a true center on our roster.
Heck, maybe we can miraculously transform into PHX from the late 90's overnight and become a run and gun team.
Hey, doesn't hurt to have wishful thinking!

Not really what the Lakers did, more of the Rockets shooting lights out from the perimeter and suffocating defense.
IMO, we have a team of really streaky shooters. When Yao was in, we were constantly attempting to feed him the ball and make him the focus of our offense (which is what a team should do with a 7-6 C). Teams started to front Yao and it threw our game plan into, simply put, chaos.
With Yao AND T-Mac out, we play with what we've got. If we can keep this momentum, we are a really competative team. We did the same at the end of last year but at least had T-Mac as the focal point. Now, all we have are streaky shooters and Artest.
But again, the key word is streaky.

If the Laker's prevail against Houston it appears theyh will be play the surprising Nuggets in the Western Conference Finals.
Since Denver has not progressed past round one of the playoffs since the early 1990's, Carmello Anthony has never been playing in May or June during the playoffs and thus his media attention has been limited. He is a stud. Denver got a great deal when it traded AI for Billups.
Kobe vs. Mello would be a great show, with the winner getting an encore performance against King James.

I wonder how LA would fair without their top 2 players?
Fisher Vujacic Ariza Odom Bynum
I dont think that team would be as competitive as Houston without their top 2 players. What a team of heart. Even if they dont win another game, I'm happy with their constant effort and will to win. Lakers fans sure can't say that. John
So, the "mighty Lakers" have been completely manhandled not once, but twice by a team of journeyman veteran role players and inexperienced 2nd/3rd year players.
You know what? Win or lose, this Rockets team has shown tremendous heart.
No T-Mac? No Yao?
Who cares, let's play our best and see what happens.
Regardless of who wins on Sunday, I'll hold my head high and be proud of my team.

The Lakers are almost two different teams. Once plays great and the other does not.
You never know which one will show up.
The will be big time chagrin on the faces of the Lakers' players, coaches, management and ownership if they lose game 7. League officials and the sports media will also be quite put out if the Lakers lose game 7.
Houston is showing great heart in playing the Lakers even up. I almost hope Houston wins game 7 [though another part of me wants the a Lakers v. Nuggets conference final].

I'm only online during the week a few minutes in the morning and at night when I get home.
Thursday night was really the first game I watched in this series and the Lakers looked terrible. I can't remember a time this year that they all looked lost..Their offense looked like they just running around and taking shots...Phil Jackson's starting selections and substitutions surprise me even though he's one of the greatest coaches ever.
Phil Jackson needs to start Farmar in game 7 and let Fish play off the bench.....Fish has been great over the years but he's letting the Rockets players look like superstars.
I find it hard to believe the Lakers won't make game 7 one of their best efforts of the playoffs...And if they win I don't know what to think right now about their chances against Denver....I believe Denver over the last 30 games is right there with the Cavs...That's very good company.
The lakers have not been as impressive as we Lakers fans would like, but...
There is a huge difference between playing the 2009 Pistons and Hawks, and playing the Jazz and Rockets (no matter who is injured). The Rockets had one of the longest winning streaks in NBA history last year with a similar patchwork lineup. Their defensive intensity in unmatched, as is their team play.
I think if they can win Game 7, the Lakers will ultimately benefit from having to face this pressure early on. Remember that the World Champ Celtics had back to back (to back?) seven game series last year before beating the Lakers in six, and the Lakers were the best of the four teams they faced.
On the other hand, if Houston wins...one of the great series upsets in recent sports memory.

Hree's hoping for 2 great game 7s today. I'm pulling for the Lake show to "show up" today. On the other side I can go either way. I would like to see Boston win but wouldn't bother me to see the Magic advance.
Looking for a Glen Rice Inkredible and Alex Rodriguez cards
I'm very glad you showed up for the entire game and actually realized a sense of urgency from the tip off.....And to Andrew Bynum, congrats on finally making a contribution to a post season game.

Wonder which Laker team will show up for game 6, the dominant one or the lost one?
I am still hoping for a Lakers v. Nuggets Western Conference final.
Kobe v. Mello.
Showtime v. a Nugget team that is playing very well [but seems like a powder keg ready to explode any moment].
