Poll: How much physical gold do you own?

Before someone accuses me of minding my own business, please remember that votes are completely annonymous. How much actual physical gold do you have in total? Im curious to see what the average is per forumite. Please dont include paper assets, nor inventory stock for you dealers out there.

I don't see anyone admitting to 200 oz & if they were recent purchases, they would not be happy today.
Gold at $776 .... Silver may drop below $11 by the e/o week & Plat below $1200? I guess, I should be happy with my 5% CD that still has 2 more years before it matures...

I liquidated all my gold when the price ran up to $800. It now seems like that was forever ago. If we ever get back to 600, I will start another type set. Until then, I am not willing to take the risk until we have a more defined bottom.

    agree. sold at 900 ish.

kept an ounce or two, but they are rare gold coins and the bullion value is meaningless to me
    when you consider their price.

  • Jimminey Cricketts. I don't think anyone should be allowed to post on the PM threads that don't own at LEAST 10 oz's. They obviously have no confidence in precious metals nor much experience I'm guessing.

There are many coin dealers (and investors) with personal stashes of either hundreds of ounces or thousands of ounces.

heh. so the ones who dumped everything they had and probably
the most qualified to have an opinion on where the metal prices
are going due to critical thinking skills, gut feeling, or what not
should not be allowed to participate?

    double heh.

I have great confidence in PMs, ... as a store of value. However, you have to know when to hold em, know when to fold em, know when to walk away, know when to run.... I folded at 800 a looooong time ago.

Most quick coin-bullion market traders have no clue as to which direction metals are going and really don't care. If they buy on Sunday they are looking to set up a sale that evening to prevent a loss on a Monday open. I'd much rather hear what the slower traders are thinking. The quick traders work on many smaller transactions and want no risk in holding inventory. They really can't afford a potential wipe out of months of work if they were holding say $200K in material and saw a 10% correction while they held.

and that is why i think the real money being made in the metals
is flipping it. holding and hoping the price goes up is a sucker's bet
in most cases. only in recent times were the odds good. now? who
knows how long it will take to get rid of this pure bearish sentiment.
  • jdimmickjdimmick Posts: 9,691 ✭✭✭✭✭
Yes, I agree. I dont hold becuase of events like these. Flip, Take the profits and smile all the way to the bank While the holders keep awaiting for any chance at getting back to zero line?

I had almost 100 ounces, most bought at the $650 - $900 range with 5-10 OZ. bought at the thousand dollar range (mostly for world gold that I collect). When gold was hitting a brick wall and rallied almost to 1,000 after dropping to the high 800's I sold off about 40 ounces. I figure my cost basis for all my gold combined is about at the $700 - $750 range.

I am down to about 60-65 ounces of gold and don't care who knows it because I just got a new 9mm and would love to have an excuse to "break it in". image
