Well on ebay I have been watching people sell olympic silver and gold
sets. 99% of the sellers are from china and basically scam artists.
This limited me to US sellers only. Well i finally found a set that was
listed at slightly below melt and I was the only one who bid. score!
This set contains 5 bars at 40 grams each. 200 grams total is 6.43014931 troy ounces.
I paid 76.74 after my 10% off ebay coupon. This includes shipping.
Which comes out to 11.93 an ounce! HEH. I knew this stuff would be
at melt eventually but so soon after the olympics is amazing. Retail
on this stuff is quite expensive.
Also neat is the low serial number compared to the mintage of 80000.
What do you think?

heh. funny how that cross my mind also. i basically figured that china
wants to show off during the olympics the last thing they would do
is make fake items for sale in official stores. imagine the backlash that
would create!
i was more worried about it actually showing up in the mail to be
honest ;-)
Was it listed the wrong catagory? That seems to be the only way I can score on silver...
Like the ASE's listed as other coins...
Many members on this forum that now it cannot fit in my signature. Please ask for entire list.

i have to admit the orange mascot is pretty neat with the action
running pose. the rest are sorta bland. the blue one is plain creepy.
An interesting story about the origin of these mascots is : that each mascot has a two syllable name. These names were chosen relative to special meaning to the Chinese.
The blue one is BeiBei (Fish & Water)
JingJing is the Giant Chinese Panda
HuanHuan represents the Flame
YingYing is the Tibetan Antelope and
NiNi is the swallow.
If you put the first word of each name together you get Bei Jing Huan Ying Ni. Translated into English this means WELCOME TO BEIJING.
I considered buying a set or two and wondered if I'd be able to make a profit selling them back here in the states, but then I just decided not to get anything - it was too high priced to begin with.
Where did you get the 10% ebay coupon?
basically you never know when it will come or for how much. others
report getting one on occasion.
i am still trying to find the exact retail price for this set. on ebay i saw
some buy it nows for outrageous prices that made me chuckle for what
you got, but not this set in particular. it was one large 100 gram bar
and a bar that had some gold on top of mostly silver.
