  • Even though it "could" have happened, I dont believe it. "The camera is draining the battery." BS! Its atleast a red "bu" coin. Anyone with a pc can figure out very easily what type of money this coin can bring.

Its a scam and the seller is blocked for me...

A camera battery is what$? Come on............

Crappy pics, and a key date?? Found in floor boards, in red condition??

Seller is unsure of it's value, but was able to determine it's a 09S VDB??

Was found last year, and seller still can't determine the value??

    Ever here of Goggle??

Nothing but questions on this one, to each his own.

No obverse photo. How convenient. Not that there'd be an S mint mark there anyway...
    When in doubt, don't.

How does a red 1909-S VDB wind up in Keyser, West Virginia?

This is the same part of West Virginia that produced that gnarly wench that messed around with Iraqi prisoners. Nice feedback of 16. Do 1909 S VDB's have the VDB off center relative to the wheat stalks?

Sorry but this is a poor excuse.

Q: do you have a better pictures of the penny? Jul-26-08
A: no my camera is needing batteries Sorry!!
  • Did you read the questions... people asking for photos and she claims twice that her camera is "draining batteries" and "my camera keeps needing batteries" ... this is complete BS!

And yet, people are greedy and are bidding like mad on an auction where they can't even see the coin, those photos are less than life size.

It's a shame that the batteries gave out just before they could take a pic. of the obverse.
Wonder how long ago their battery charger gave out? Otherwise they could have simply charged it up and taken a photo. Such a shame. image

Along those lines, the only other item that they are selling is a digi-cam. You'd think that they would at least use still frames or upload a vid of the obverse...
    imageRIP
  • Forget 2x2s, airtites or slabs... I'm going to just place all my coins under the floorboards, that keeps them in pristine condition! image

BTW: If one of my single coin auctions was up to over $700, I think I'd swing up to the store and by some batteries for my camera!

On a more serious note, when I said that people are bidding only because of greed, I may have been too harsh. Yes, some are greedy, others looking for a deal and gambling the seller is honest but, others are actually bidding because they believe the seller. Like those that get suckered into buying coins on those late night TV shows... they are trusting the dealers who are telling them to buy these coins and are believing the value, that honestly hurts the hobby.

Man, I lived pretty close to Keyser WV, that place is a dump.

This guy is a moron. He was smart enough to crop the picture down (or steal it from someone) but not smart enough to take two pictures? How could have have taken 1 picture but not two?

I guess if the people pay with Paypal, they could always get their money back after some hassle. But people from WV are typically stupid. There was a person on Judge Judy a few months ago who sold a cell phone on eBay but said the auction was for the PICTURE of the phone, not the phone. Judge Judy destroyed her on national television, it was awesome!

it is a stolen picture of a cent in an ngc slab....
that is my two cents on the subject. notice the shadows.
i am amazed no one noticed it. enlarge the picture.

at 11 o'clock the coin is tilted downwards... while at 4-5 o'clock it
is upwards. typical angling of a coin in a slab.

My favorite Q&A............anyone buying this thing must be nutzzzzzz!!!

Q: The back looks fine but you don't have any mention of what the Obverse (front) looks like. Are there scratches? Is there ANY damage? Please explain in detail what you see on the LINCOLN side of the penny. It will make a significant difference in whether or not I will make a bid on this. You can't just show %50 of the penny and expect serious bids.

A: The Front of the coin Looks in Just as great condition as the front of it! No damage! No Scratchs! thanks
  • BarberianBarberian Posts: 4,063 ✭✭✭✭✭
One thing for certain is that is it not real. One does not find red 1909-S VDBs under floorboards in Keyser, WV. San Francisco maybe. But not in the middle of Appalachia.

I emailed the winner with this message:

    Dear beers3740,

I think you might have made a mistake buying that 09S VDB cent. Here is a thread on the PCGS forums discussing it.
http://forums.collectors.com/messageview.cfm?catid=26&threadid=669419&STARTPAGE=1 My opinion is that the coin pic
is stolen and resides in an NGC slab. Your thoughts?
  • SUMORADASUMORADA Posts: 4,797

Thank you, but I've been watching, I know what everybody is thinking.......and there is a good chance they maybe correct, I rolled the dice...if I"m right great !
If I'm wrong...well I'll just have to spend some time trying to recover my $$.

With that said, whatever way this works out I will post it,

So any suggestions on how I should make payment that would give me the best chance of recovering my $$ if this goes south would be appreciated!

    Thanks, Eric
  • It's obvious the pic (as small as it is) is of a coin in a slab with a white insert. Probably an NGC, for the reason fc just pointed out (also, most likely NGC based on shear numbers, as compared to PCI & ANACS). One can pretty much conclude they stole the pic. Certainly, if they had slabbed this coin after they "found in the floor boards", they would have made light of it.

PayPal funded with a credit card.

Be prepared for the seller to claim a "problem" with PayPal.
If that happens, simply tell them to fix the "problem" and
that you will ONLY pay via PayPal.

The seller may have a 21-day PP hold on the funds that will
not be released until the item is satisfactorily delivered.

This is a 100% SCAM. Gladly, a sophisticated person is the
intended victim; the scam will fail.
