This is off topic, but I’m posting it anyway! It’s a happy day for me.

Many members on the board have sent me private messages of support concerning my Son, whose picture I have used as my Avatar while deployed with the 3RD Infantry Division, 1ST Brigade Combat Team in Ramadi Iraq as a Combat Medic, this was his second tour of duty in Iraq.

I am ecstatic that his second tour, which was extended to 15 months due to the “Surge”, is now complete and he has returned today to his home base at Fort Stewart Georgia.

My Son has made me very proud of his service to our country; he will be spending the next few months out-processing as he has completed eight full years of service, the last two not of his choosing but was retained under the “Stop-Gap” measures that caused service members with needed skills to be denied released from active duty.

I will be looking forward to seeing him very soon. And I want to express my thanks for all those that took the time to send packages and letters to the troops.

To keep this from being poofed if you can post a picture of a Military Challenge Coin or a Peace Dollar.

Tim

  • I know you must be thrilled...he has done you a great service, as well as his country. Even with NO coins, or coin related topic, if this thread got poofed, something would be wrong somewhere. Congrats on having him home for good! Thank him for me..... everyone who has served should be thanked. Enjoy having him home, because in just a few months, he'll be the same old pain in the butt he was before he left, and you'll be smiling even harder then....congrats, pop!!!!!

  • It must be a great feeling to have him in back in the states. We here certainly appreciate his service to our country. I know that when my brother got back to the house after a tour in Iraq it was a great feeling. He ships off to Afghanistan in April.

This is a very special day for you, and we can all relate to your joy. All Americans owe your son, and so many others like him, a debt of gratitude for his service to his country.

I can relate to the feeling that you now have. One of my sons recently retired from the Army, after eight years in the Army Rangers, 1st Battalion, 75th Regiment out of Savannah. GA.. My oldest son is presently deployed in the Persian Gulf as a Lieutenant Commander and helicopter pilot in the Navy.

  • I'm so very happy he's back. Is his wife also coming home?

God bless them, and a huge THANK YOU for his/their service.

You must be very proud as I am also, tell your son that I really want to thank him for giving my wife, my son, my daughter and myself a chance of continued peace here in the States and what he and others did and are doing will never be in vain. God Bless him and all of the other troops that serve us.

Below is our dog, she's a retired police dog that we adopted 9 years ago, she loves to sit in her private chair and listen to us talk, watch the birds fly by and after all of that she loves to fall to sleep. She and your son have served us greatly!!

    Tim,

Congrat's on your son's return. Please extend my thanks to him for his service to our country and commitment to our way of life. I know you must be both proud, and relieved, that he is home again.

My boy is also serving, although it will be some years before his service is complete. I really do have a great respect for all the men and women who make the sacrafice to serve our nation.

Thanks to all those who served is the simplest way to express our country’s debt to our service men and women. This post reminded me of my email signature while I was out at Edwards AFB in CA as a civil servant.

"People sleep peaceably in their beds at night only because rough men stand ready to do violence on their behalf." -George Orwell

    And now I have this:

"The probability that we may fall in the struggle ought not to deter us from the support of a cause we believe to be just; it shall not deter me." - Abraham Lincoln

I believe every word of both.

Tim, you tell your Son that we are ALL proud of him and are grateful beyond words for the sacrafices that he, his comrades and the families have done to protect this great nation. There will always be some loud mouths that say otherwise but the American people ARE grateful and ARE proud of the men and women that brave very dangerous conditions to keep America save. I am glad is is back safe as I know you are. Thank you all! image
