Celebrating my first hole in one - post a holey coin.

It was a miserable, blustry day and 15 of 18 greens were flooded or soaked. I was the only idiot on the entire course this afternoon so it was unwitnessed by anyone else. image

congratulations!! a rare feat indeed image

I used to go out alot alone and play for practice when I was younger ... and after two very near misses, I started to fear I'd hit one with no one around to see.

20 years later, and still not one to my name. I'd take one anyway I could get it ... well, legitimately anyway. image

Congrats. I"m with stone, a couple of 7 iron eagles on par 4s but no hole in 1s. I hit a 7 iron to about 6" on a 170 yr par 3 Saturday morning and commented that I've never had a hole in one but I hope my son is there when I do.

I've also spent many a day as the only idiot that was fool enough to challenge the weather. Glad to hear there are more of us. --Jerry

    Joflax,
I learned to golf in Illinois but the first time I played Torrey Pines was in 1982 and I was out here for a job interview. It started pouring and I was the only one who kept on playing...about a month ago my son and I Teed off in the rain..it was raining all the way to the course but we went anyway and got the round in.

I played the crossings once. It bothers me that is is my own city's muni course and costs more than many of the quality upscale public courses around. My current favorite is Arrowwood and that's the course I played Saturday. Carlsbad built the most expensive public course ever created and didn't get their money's worth in my opinion. Several of the holes are very nice but several are trying too hard to be interesting and it just doesn't come off.

How about the bridges that apparently cost $3 million dollars to build (gnatcatcher or something) that make your golf cart sound like a freight train going thru???
No self respecting endangered species is going to stick around under those bridges. Thats why its the most expensive and disjointed course ever built. I thought is was fun to play though....also love Arrowwood

Congrats on your ace, Lakesammman. Here's a photo of one of the coolest coins ever, a $1 pattern hand-engraved by Longacre. I had the good fortune to examine one at an auction lot viewing a couple years back. And I have a sneaking suspicion that someone here owns one of these.

New collectors, please educate yourself before spending money on coins; there are people who believe that using numismatic knowledge to rip the naïve is what this hobby is all about.

  • If you make a hole in one and are the only person on the course.....does it really count?

I used to play a lot of golf, but I've only SEEN one hole-in-one in my life. It was truly amazing. I've come within a few inches several times. Well done, even though it was 15 years ago!

Got my hole in one back on June 5, 1993. 152 yards, par 3, uphill and slightly downwind. Hit a 7 iron, bounced twice and dropped in the hole. I can still see that shot in my mind in slow motion. It felt pure.

More interesting is that another golfer in our outing of about 60 players also got an ace on the same hole later in the event. Could possibly be the only time that a hole in one did not win a skin....... we still joke about that to this day. The only advantage is that we split the bar bill.

Wow - now that's an old thread!

Have had 3 since then, all witnessed!

A few years ago everyone in my foursome had a hole in one in the same year! Of course, everyone at the hole-in-one party at the end of the year thought we were lying. :D

Doesn't matter. You know you did it and that's what counts. I was lucky with mine, it was in a tournament playing with my brother-in-law and my two best friends. Still got the plaque somewhere. Congratulations.
