<< <i>Brett--Someone's going to get hooked on collecting '60s cards now. Hee hee. Nice gift from your friend. >>
Aint that the truth. I've already begun sizing up the possibilty of starting a '61 set. I'm not sure if I can handle the expense, though. I'll have to mull it over for a while.
Brock21, thanks for taking a stab at 'em, but both answers are incorrect. Remember, the '72's pictured are the only ones in the set (at least I think so) that satisfy the answer. There are many other cards that show the player looking up.
The '71 answer is much easier than the '72 and is not at all opinion-based. (For example, it's nothing like legible signatures, great ballplayers, nice guys, etc.)
I'm cutting it close on making it by the end of this Saturday (on the west coast). First some stabs at Bretts' mystery theme questions. Brett the players on the '72 cards never played for the team the card listed, many of them finished their careers at the end of 1971. OK, the '71 cards are all from the high number or last series in the set. Here are some '74s I threw down quickly to make it by midnight. You can see I used my digital camera as a paper weight on a few of these. Whew, I'm tired-- time for bed. Nice cards today guys. Take care. Doug
Excellent job. You are right on both mystery questions. I especially like the '72's. It's funny that even Lowell Palmer and Bob Aspromonte, neither of whom are wearing airbrushed uniforms, never played a single game for the team on which he is pictured. Those two obviously were fitted for unis, though! Also, those are some fantastic '74's.
j,
Although not correct, I did enjyoy your answer to the '71 question.
Love the 1970 Topps Baseball. Arguably one of the uglier front designs, although the backs were very easy to read especially when compared to '71 and '72. 1970 was my first year of collecting, and looking at that year alone is like traveling in a time machine -- I'm on my living room floor, age 5, sorting through all the cards and separating the powder blue Cubbies into 1 pile and everyone else into another. Thanks for the memories

My daughter was diagnosed with type 1 diabetes at the age of 2 (2003). My son was diagnosed with Type 1 when he was 17 on December 31, 2009. We were stunned that another child of ours had been diagnosed. Please, if you don't have a favorite charity, consider giving to the JDRF (Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation)
They all were active in 1974, are not active now, and all have at least one vowel and one consonant in their first and last names. I think they may have all played for one of the expansion teams at one time or another.
Brett, nice cards today and the'57 are great looking also. Yours may look nicer than mine actually. Here are a few commons. Stab at the mystery theme of which I have looked at and I think I'm stumped but will throw out an answer. The all became coaches after their playing days. Lame I know but that's all I got.
Thanks for taking a stab at the mystery theme, but you are all incorrect. Hint: The answer lies on the back of their cards. This applies to both the '73 and '74 groups.
Doug,
I think you may be suffering from a case of "the grass is greener, etc." There's no way my '57's look as nice as yours. I was drooling looking at the ones you posted. Mine look pretty dark, but that's from the scanner. I hope it's not on its last legs.
Brett, it's good to see that you are starting to collect something prior to 1970! You picked a good year (1957), and it looks like you are off to a very nice start on that set.
I went to a show on Sunday and got some nice 57's too, along with some 63's and 64 high numbers. I'll post scans of them this coming Saturday.

Doug, any idea on the '72 mystery question?
On the 71's - Extremely legible signatures?

Haven't posted much on this thread lately, since I've been trying to buy graded cards for the White Sox prewar type set that I'm building.
Anyway, here is a raw Salutation Exhibit card that I got this week (which will hopefully find its way into a slab soon)...
Collecting: Topps 1952-79, Bowman 1952-55, OPC 1965-71, and Pre-War White Sox cards
<< <i>What do these cards have in common? >>
All of these players had sons who played in the majors.
Raw for now... headed for the slabbing place.
football related....sorta....Paul Stanley at his old High school...
and defintely not sports related----Can't wait for the KISS concert in Portland,OR in November for the KISS ALIVE TOUR

Exactly right. Nicely done.
Nice 71's--just got this one today.
<< <i>Well since we re posting 71's here is what i got today at a local card show. Do you think the Ryan has a shot for a 8? >>
It looks like it has a fair shot. All of those cards look very nice. I'm officially jealous.
The mantles are darn nice also.
Bosox1976
Dead on with the Koufax,
and the Yaz is also top grade
Tough!!! Thanks for showing Mike

What can I say? At least you made an effort.

That woulda been a good one had it been one of those "which card does not belong" questions. Keep trying...please!
Lou
Very nice Gehrig. Congrats on the grade.

Lou,
Without looking it up, you are likely correct. But that can probably be said for everyone who played between 1968 and 1990! Nice answer, though.
