Someone explain how these people take this risk?

Tell me how someone can buy an item like this and take the risk of it not being cleaned? If it is cleaned, would it not be worth between $700-$1000?

I'll see your bunny with a pancake on his head and raise you a Siamese cat with a miniature pumpkin on his head.

You wouldn't believe how long it took to get him to sit still for this.

Yep, it has that phrase to try and make you think they would never do anything dishonest because they don't know anything
about coins and then throw in a nice home spun story about a relative and some other collectable stuff to make you think they
are a simple down home upright person and then a dealer story to try and show a contrast between their honesty and
what someone else might do. It has all the tricks and elements that some people will fall for.

There is a fishing term for this...it is called 'trolling' - when you drag bait, looking for a bite... image Cheers, RickO

Let's not forget the reasonable $43.50 for shipping.

For that, I'd expect the coin sent Registered surrounded by 15 pieces of all-white KFC.

How do you know that the buyer didn't negotiate an escrow transaction? Could very well be the case here. I know that would have been my strategy. NO GUTS, NO GLORY.

yup. i have watched this person bid on some very odd half eagles
for big money when i would have never ever considered purchasing
them even if i had the spare cash.

look for another pcgs submission with 8 coins and 7 BBs.
  • The one I have on eBay looks o.k. also........but the reverse has been cleaned.

I used to live above a restaurant in Kitzingen, Germany called the Golden Goose. (Goldene Ganz).

Wonder what percentage of collectors would risk $4000, from just a picture on eBay, to try and get a MS62??

One of the sets of photos shows clear signs of cleaning or wipe marks.
  • He might be thinking it is worth the risk to try to get MS62 or MS63 money for it. His fall back plan might be to try to rip someone else on eBay if he cannot get it slabbed somewhere.image

    Looks good to me.

    > 100% postive feed back, 246 transactions, hardly any coins = seller's story could be plausible.
    > Accepts PayPal - no return policy mentioned in auction, but one could have been negotiated privately.
    > A variety of photos that all suggest the coin is original.
    > A very nice strike for a $3 - a hit on the neck of the obverse portrait in some photos, goes away in others, might not be too bad in person.
    > At 58 the coin is worth $2.5K, at 63 $10K+, so at $4K hammer it looks like a good bet, with an acceptable downside.
