I once bought a gorgeous 1795 half dollar in an old green PCI holder graded VG08. Crossed to PCGS @ an 8. Sold it a couple years later for about $500 more than I paid. Later I realized there aren't much better VG08s out there and bought it back!
<< <i>Thank you but I would much rather forget about them, they cost me $1500, I bought a dime entombed by them (gold holder like yours) cracked it out and sent it to PCGS and they said it was artificially toned and later to ANACS and they said it was cleaned. So then I submitted back to PCI in their gold but cracked holder and they asked me if I was the one who cracked it out, if I wasn't they wouldn't holder it , If I was the one then they would, I answered in the affirmative where it is now entombed forever, pretty darn professional if you ask me. I hope I never hear of those ridiculous 3 letters PCI again. >>
So, you allowed a POS coin to be reholdered as a POS coin. Pretty ethical on your part.
They still owe me $800 for my signature series grades and attributions. The ones with my signature will be very rare! Only two collectors own examples.

Cracked from an old green 10-digit PCI holder, was graded EF45:
I still can't find the photo of the "95% white" Mercury Dime I picked up in an old PCI holder with really pretty purple and green toning, that one is on eht list to reshoot if I ever figure out my camera.
For those of you who can't tell the difference, here is a side-by-side comparison of the new PCI insert vs the old. Coins in green-border holders that look like the bottom image and with a 10-digit serial number are the ones graded by the original owners. Those coins are the ones with the reputation for solid or even conservative grading.

When I first started cllecting my b & m sent a lot to PCI and hence I bought at least 30 morgans in the old 10 digit green holders. Some of them were pretty undergraded. Have sold some since but here is one.
I don't have any of them to post. Is that a good thing or a bad thing?
I tend to think it might be a good thing for my financial health and although years ago I did own a Lincoln - Illinois in Hallmark holder, which was PCI's great grand pa.
Retired dealer and avid collector of U.S. type coins, 19th century presidential campaign medalets and selected medals. In recent years I have been working on a set of British coins - at least one coin from each king or queen who issued pieces that are collectible. I am also collecting at least one coin for each Roman emperor from Julius Caesar to ... ?

Hey, did you notice, he's quoting himself on purpose now, probably trying to play it off like some sort of "joke". I don't think he's fooling anyone, though.

Anyone interested in donating one of those old photo-holders? Anyone know if their records are available? Thanks, Robin

Does anyone here actually use PCI or buy their coins other than as treating them as if they were raw? Does anyone here really care who bought PCI?

The green label PCI slabs shouldn't be confused with the gold label PCI slabs. Two different owners and two different grading standards. The coins in the green label PCI slabs were fairly conservatively graded and are definitely worth considering.
