I forget which city it is, but every year Goodwill gets many modern gold coins tossed into their buckets.
It's been going on for over a decade at least.
"Lenin is certainly right. There is no subtler or more severe means of overturning the existing basis of society(destroy capitalism) than to debauch the currency. The process engages all the hidden forces of economic law on the side of destruction, and it does it in a manner which not one man in a million is able to diagnose." John Marnard Keynes, The Economic Consequences of the Peace, 1920, page 235ff
Yeah coins often sell at Goodwill for silly prices, higher than normal. I wonder if the folks buying the stuff turn around and take a tax write off as a 'donation' ignoring the fact they bought something.

I live in Ft. Collins CO and every year someone drops a couple of Kruggerands in a different Salvation Army bucket. Which I happen to think is pretty cool. If you are the person who does this, I want you to know you have my respect and admiration. Not only because you give so generously but because you choose to remain unknown!!! Thanks!!!
Take a look at this one from their site--I have no idea whats going on here
2 Uncirculated One Dollar Coins (3233053)
2 Washington Dollars, and the bid is up to $130 already
It could be that people who arent aware of the new dollars think they were issued during Washingtons presidency, since the only dates on the coin are of his presidency--are people that out of it?
