<< <i>The problem is they're not worth $1.50 each. Plus they're one of the more "bland" coins the mint has ever produced. >>
Bland they may be, but Bald Guy Bucks are starting to get a little respect, now, some thirty years after their demise. Even I, never a big fan of them in the past, have revised my opinion a bit. If nothing else, their size and weight commands a little respect. They were the last "hefty" coins in circulation.
And I beg to differ.... Ikes ARE worth about a buck-fifty each, now. Shoot, the Redbook says two bucks in EF(!) for most of 'em, now.
Out of this two batches I just bought, I paid $1.40 each for the first lot and $1.25 each for the second. The $1.40 coins (purchased here, on BST) were better, mostly UNC coins with a few AU, and some of the UNCS had decent luster with faint rainbow toning, which was nice. I should have no trouble getting three or four bucks each out of them, at a bare minimum.
As to the second lot I bought, they were from a member of the general public (i.e., a non-numismatic source), so they weren't quite as nice. I still oughtta be able to get two, maybe three bucks each on all but the truly circ ones.
Your probably right Lord. I should have stated they're not worth $1.50 to me. LOL Just too bland for me though I do like the color of the 40% silver Ikes. I have 1 or 2 brown box Ikes.
I imagine that'll go towards some back braces and chiropractor visits for a few mail carriers, unless the USPS uses a forklift to deliver to the winning bidder!
Geez, imagine the sheer weight of 100,000 Ike dollars.
(Oh, I see Tyler just did. Yow. Two and a half TONS.)
Probably shipping through frieght carrier. I've had several motor/transmission combo's shipped off ebay weighing over a thousand pounds and the frieght wasnt too bad. Unless he states he plans on shipping thru USPS. Didnt bother to read the whole thing. And they are all set up with forklift, loading dock etc... Once your at your house though you've got your own problems. I've got a cherry picker that will handle engine trans... but pretty much out of luck if he was to ship them in one big crate. For tha matter the axels on someone's truck might decide to buckel under that much of a load in the bed. I've never tried that much weight in my pickup.
I dont see me buying them unless I want to get my wife a birthday present that will be a life ender for me.
I'll see your bunny with a pancake on his head and raise you a Siamese cat with a miniature pumpkin on his head.
You wouldn't believe how long it took to get him to sit still for this.
<< <i>maybe he plans to stick them all in 20 flat rate boxes >>
I don't think that would work since there are size limitations on the FLat Rate PM boxes. I bought a bag earlier in the year and it just barely fit into one flat rate box.
I tried shipping my bowling ball as a flat rate package but the clerk rejected it because it wasn't in a flat rate box.
I decided to change calling the bathroom the John and renamed it the Jim. I feel so much better saying I went to the Jim this morning.

Really? That amazes me as I can still go get them from my bank. I'm glad to see they're building a collector base, however. >>
Really? Do you order them or just happen to see them when you are in there? What and where is the bank that you get these at? I'd like to stop by and pick some up but certainly not 100,000.

the seller told me he can fit 1000 Ikes in a 8.90 flat rate box. He said he would ship out 100 flat rate boxes at 8.90 and absorb any extra freight charges

That still equals to $890.00 in postage....

How many 1972 Type 2's and 1971-D RDV-006's would you need to find to offset the extra $50,000?

beg to differ - YES, I agree - bland on the obverse - but to me, I love the reverse - in IMO, the eagle is one of the nicest produced on US coinage - very dramatic looking - but each to their own - I do respect your opinion.
as most IKE experts know, there could be quite a few nice "variaties" in that 100,000 - like the 72 type II - nice coin to own in any grade.

Yes the size is impressive.
Even Rodney Dangerfield.
Even me.
Is he a collector?

Wonder what this seller is thinking?
Probably thinking he'd like to be rid of as many Ikes as possible in one go.
Seems it would be better to break them down into more manageable-sized lots, though. Say, a thousand pieces or so.
But then he has to sell 100 lots.
Man, that's a LOT of overstock.
