Mmmm...I thought they came in 100 quarters to a bag...

That is one of the more interesting bags I've seen. I like it.

<< <i>IMHO, the only canvas bags worth collecting are from the pre-FDIC period, and from banks that were chartered as a National Bank. These almost invariably have drawstrings through grommets at the top, with a wooden cinch bead. >>
I have 3 bags like this- they are holding my dry towels for the vehicles(car wash day is Sunday)- Actually I have about 3 dozen canvas bags- but the majority are Boy scout era bags. timew for me to grow up I guess.

When I was at my local bank a while back picking up some pennies to search, my cousin who works there asked me if I wanted a bag to put them in, I said ok, was real happy when I saw this one:
And I bought several of this style plain bag while attending a French and Indian war reenactment- they had craft style vendors there selling period wares- they were available in a range of sizes priced from about $1 to $4, I bought some of the medium size ones that were about the same size of the trust company bag above. Always thought it would be neat to have them labeled something cool- like Carson City etc..:

<< <i>A friend has an old canvas bag with "$5000 GOLD HALF EAGLES" printed on it. Really neat item. >>
I'd give him $250 for it, if he wants to sell.

I'll try to post it, and a cool leather bank bag from the early '30s or earlier later today.
Not from the mint. But the ties are they are old twine with lead seals that would be crimped by the mint with there official seal.
Cool. I had the sister or brother to that Philly bag last month- I sold a mint sealed bag of '64-Ds.
(Just think of city streets clogged with a hundred thousand horses each generating 15 lbs of manure every day...)

So I try to buy only U. S. Mint bags. But alas I have strayed. (Just the occasional deer skin gold bag, etc.)
Some of the neater bags I have handled were:
$10,000 Carson City Gold Bag
$1,000 Stone Mountain Commemorative
$1000 1934 Dollar San Francisco
U.S. Mint Denver $5000 1/2 Eagles
$5,000 Double Eagles U.S. Mint Philadelphia 1925 (and 1927 also)
U.S. Mint $1,000 New Orleans (Numerous specimens)
CENTS $20 U.S. MINT Philadelphia 1943
U.S. MINT $1000 CARSON CITY (Countless amount)
$1000 Dollars New Design 1922 Philadelphia
So there ya have it. Just some of the bags I have handled. I am sure I am forgeting some that are note worthy, but my mind isn't what it used to be.
