Tim: Congratulations on that great cross! "Required" to send - nothing of course. What might be nice - dinner for two on you?... tell the board member to pick a nice local restaurant and enjoy the evening out on you and your boy?

Dimeman - As "stupid" as the little scenario might be, I believe most here would agree that dealer of 25 years ago deserves as much as you do.

Note to self: Words of wisdom to live by----->
Good deals ok to share publicly.
Bad deals negotiate privately, take your lumps, learn from them and move forward image

The moral of the story IMO:
Fully discuss all expectations of the proposed transaction, communicate, and negotiate, compromise to arrive at a happy medium. Never take it or make it personal and above all keep it business like all the while promoting professionalism 1st!

    Have a great weekend all

I believe that we have a ligit shot at 300 posts if we just contuinue to hash over the same malarky that we have been hashing over and over again.

I still would like to know what the coin is now worth since the pops went from 19/3 to 35/3. I certainly wouldn't say $400!

And by the way, wasn't this Forum dead anyway? This thread has livened up ther place.

    P.S. I still need a 1956 MS66/67FB. image

Its pretty sad that pcgs can take the $20 coin and make it a $400 coin. Its still the same coin, is it not?

Dude, this thread is dead and it was buried so please don't dig it up again. Thanks. image
  • Curiously, (but not surprisingly) I had a couple of Roosies get ridiculously, completely, botched by PCGS during the same time frame.

An "MS65", that graded MS67 when cracked and resubmitted... stuff like that.

Sad they can't do a little better on the consistency.

These threads are always interesting to read as it helps me sort out who I would enjoy having a beer with and who I wouldn't. I am the type of person who no matter how much money I stand to make on a deal would try to act as fairly as I could for if not it would be a slap in the face to those who raised me and what I believe in. This doesn't imply I am a good person just that I try to hold onto what I believe in. Having said that I believe Dimeman is out of line for posting this thread.

Paul categorically told you that this was a FB coin. At that point you had two choices, get the coin back or take the $50. You made the choice, no one else forced you to make that choice but yourself. You made the choice to believe PCGS and not Paul. Niether one of the two parties deserves the criticism I've have seen doled out here. Its lame and poor form to publicly announce on a forum that you need the money to garner sympathy. Some things in life if they are true should be kept private. If its true as Paul has said that you in the meantime continue to purchase other coins then you have not been entirely truthful to us.

Finally if you can't see why by your comments that Paul retracted his kind offer then you have a weak grasp on reality. I find your comments hollow as a collector and a member here not being fully aware that TPG's will change their grade opinion on resubmissions. Quite frankly I fail to see any reasonable excuse for you not to own up to your own responsibility in this transaction other than acting like a child.

BTW tact is not my strong suit as others will testify too but at least you got my honest reaction after having thought about it. Whether it means anything is up to you.

I have been reading this thread for a week, and the only thing I have to add is how rediculious Jon's comments are. I self proclaimed dime expert sending coins to someone else for help, then accusing than same good natured person with trying to rip him off. I can attest that if you claim is valet then you better pony up a check to Dick Osbourne for some of those capped bust coins you purchased and managed to get in holders. Paul has been nothing but help to anyone that asked when it comes to Roosies. Your claim that he knew it was a full band coin is moronic at best. There is no one who can predict what PCGS will do. If you thought the coin was worth more, than you should have refused the check, and asked for the dime to be returned. Stop accumulating coins and start collecting, and this will not happen to you. Paul hats off on a great score!!! Fred
  • This an integrity issue. As i read from post one my opinion was formed then changed due to one party reaching out to resolve this. I do believe that the $150 offered was unexpected and a fair way to complete this problem then move on to more important things in life

    AArrRggGggghhhhhhHHH.

I swore I wouldn't read this thread and am more surprised to respond.

I wouldn't do that except it's at the top anyway so it's no big loss.

I've never done business with Stooge but would not hesitate to do so. I've
never done business with DimeMan either but wouldn't hesitate. Granted, it
might be a good idea to spell out terms but I know he would not attempt
to profit at my expense in any situation. It's always a good idea to spell out
terms since things one party takes for granted may not even feel applicable to
the other. And, it appears, this is what we have here.

This is just a deal gone wrong and I do believe we've all had those.

The attacks on DimeMan appear particularly unjustified and resulting mainly
from the fact he originated the thread.

Attacks on Stooge are unjustified as well, but they are much less numerous.

I just want to say, whether it's designated or not, the coin is high end and it's value is closer to FB than non FB, period! This is the lesson Dimeman should learn and Stooge is right in sending another $150. I have several coins that are high end due to EDS strikes, PL surfaces and yes, 6 steps and there's no way I'd sell any of those coins for next to nothing on some premises like the lack of some designation. The most puzzling thing about this thread, why everyone thought this coin was worth only $50??

By everyone who was involved in the transaction of this coin. And by many others if they want to include themselves in that catagory. I don't think that I need to point out those who have thought otherwise, that's obvious to those who have read the thread. A poll is really not neccesary. The mainstream of thought here has failed through some idea that a price guide is the gospel to what a coin is worth when it's only, at best, a guideline. We all know (but only include yourself in this catagory if you're aware) there are high end and low end coins to a assigned grade in a holder. Of course, I'm only assuming from what I read concerning the quality of the coin in question but Stooge definitely thought otherwise when he could have simply bought a MS66 off of ebay but that wasn't the case.

    Leo,

I have to disagree with you.

....the coin is high end and it's value is closer to FB than non FB, period!

I have always believed a coin's value is what someone is will to pay for it & what someone is will to sell it for .

Stooge sent an offer to buy the coin & Dimeman accepted the offer buy cashing the check, period!

Whether you feel Stooge was wrong in sending the 'low-ball' offer for a 'high-end' coin is a personal opinion.
AS IS whether Dimeman should have cash the check on a 'low-ball' offer for a 'high-end' coin.

I had, at the time 3 different MS66 Silver Roosies in my set and they were:

1953-S...I bought in Las Vegas for a song, when I was on Vacation with Keith LaBrozzi.
1961...I submitted myself, because I again though it was FB and came back as NOT! Look and see that I still have this coin.
1957...From Dimeman, because it was there in my possession, otherwise, no I wouldn't have bought it on eBay.

The reason I originally suggested the charity auction was for Paul to shed the "bad karma" and be done with the coin. Instead, Paul chose to give it to one of his best friends - same basic result - coin is now out of sight - out of mind. And, of course, the decision to give it to a good friend did not have to be a "public" one - but, I sense there was a enjoyment factor letting Dimeman know what became of his dime. And, many here would argue Dimeman deserved it for bringing this public.

Thus ends the saga of the 57-P dime MS66FB dime - at least until Grandam upgrades it to MS67FB and Dimeman recalculates his loss at $3,000+!! image
