    First 2 packs...

Bad O/C top to bottom throughout. One of the better centered cards is a Bench. Sure 8 - outside 9 possibility.

My daughter was diagnosed with type 1 diabetes at the age of 2 (2003). My son was diagnosed with Type 1 when he was 17 on December 31, 2009. We were stunned that another child of ours had been diagnosed. Please, if you don't have a favorite charity, consider giving to the JDRF (Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation)

  • Nice Michael Jack there! Solid nine! I think that card must have a nice spot on the sheet since I do seem to see it well centered a lot. Another star card that often is seen in nice condition is the Carew.

    Terrible packs.

Very few stars, centering was horrible, MANY edge and corner dings.

If others have the same experience I have I would advised to keep packs unopened.

UGH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! not a good way to start.

maybe just a bad batch. i was the one who had the downer box on the 78s (as far as stars are concerned) whereas everyone else was popping murrays, ryans, etc...

sorry about the luck zef. image

edited to say: i did pull a molly from the 78s so not all bad.

    Thanks,

Sorry to hear about your packs. image Did you pull a Ryan or Henderson at least? Did you open all 18 packs? Hopefully things will look up from here.

No Henderson, no Ryan, no Rose, no Reggie, no lots of others. The Schmidt was the highlight. Also pulled Ozzie, Bench, Yaz, Carew, Murphy, Ryan SO leader, Rose HL, and Yount. Those all were within the first 6 packs.

I'm going back thru now to pull some better centered commons and some minor stars and then I will scan. For the Pirate fans, I did pull a sweet Sanguillen.

Zef, we split our box, right? If so, that means that I have a good shot at a Henderson! image

Sorry, just can't wait to open these and I'm hoping that my 'side' of the box was unharmed. All of those corner dings you are talking about are scaring me. image

That Schmidt is sweet though, nice pull there! If anyone pulls a nice (PSA 9 or better lookin') Bert Campaneris or a 10-lookin' Tony Perez, I need them.

Arny, By the looks of the cards, I am guessing we got the box that was down by the damage that is seen on the case pictured. Got a Perez, but NO WAY it could get a 10.

there were 4 of us that split a box: me, you, williplett and arny. any one of us could have the other half of what you noticed....

I honestly would recommend that if you open 2 packs and the corners and edges are dinged, STOP! It doesn't get any better. The Schmidt was a fluke. I have had much better cards come out of vending than these 18 packs. I'm sure many of the boxes will be better, but which ever of you has the other half of this box you will likely see the same type of cards.

I am not sure I am hoping for the other half of Zef's box or not. Granted if he didn't get much in the way of star cards or the Henderson, that could bode well. But, chances are whatever the other half yields might be dinged and/or OC. I can't wait for Monday either way!

My heart drops every time i see a J.R. Richard card. There was a guy on the fast track to the Hall until midway thru the '80 season he had a stroke and never played again......love that Ryan/Richard card
  • julen23julen23 Posts: 4,558 ✭✭
very true about jr richards, he went from "pro" to "hobo" in a period of less than 5 years after his stroke.

after he his stroke he wandered in and out of homeless shelters and was (more or less) a bum on the street at one time.

he & earl campbell are 2 of the sadder sports stories to read about.... (andre waters is a tragedy however)

Looks like 0 for 2 on the case breaks, 75 minis were mostly all off centered as well. Mine certainly were.

Hope everyone else has better luck.

This is true but I would say given his condition, Earl has done pretty well for himself outside of football.

  • I came home to find a nice package on my doorstep of 1980's from Illinois. But, upon closer inspection, it was the raw 1980 set I bought off of Ebay for $40. i must say I am happy. the guy described the set as NM and it is! The star cards were in penny sleeves and top loaders and the Henderson was in PSA 8 condition. Usually NM is said by people whose cards are more along the lines of EX or EX-MT.

I thought I would explain why I won't be opening this box. I have a box of 1980 Topps that I think has been searched and resealed. I'm not sure of that, but it looks suspicious (I may send a pack or two in for grading). I'm trying to collect at least one unopened box back to 1975, so this one will replace that one.

Good luck to all that open their boxes.
