My daughter was diagnosed with type 1 diabetes at the age of 2 (2003). My son was diagnosed with Type 1 when he was 17 on December 31, 2009. We were stunned that another child of ours had been diagnosed. Please, if you don't have a favorite charity, consider giving to the JDRF (Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation)

guys. i'm having no luck getting in touch with johnnybro regarding his 2 boxes. if i don't hear from him by 9a CST tomorrow (friday) would easports/ronburgandy split a box and jamesgotpoorman be interested? if so, PM me or reply to this thread.

    Thanks,

He may be waiting for payday (friday). Either way, I can't wait!
  • ldfergldferg Posts: 6,747 ✭✭✭
i picked 9a because i'll be going to a funeral (wife's grandfather passed) and i won't be around until later in the evening. if 9a seems unreasonable i have no problems extended for johnnybro if he's interested. however, i do think we need a cutoff date/time especially if we have others that would be willing.

    Thanks,

    David (LD_Ferg)

Ron Burgundy reporting live from the case break. It appears all has gone well during the unearthing process of these vintage gems. The smell of fresh cardboard and stale bubblegum seems to be the order of the day, as one very large box was opened within the halls of the BBCE. Outside, a team of army rangers and special forces units patrolled the facility looking for any would be searchers and resealers. Rickey Henderson seems to be a name that has been mentioned a lot today, most of the time in the same sentence as the phrase "PSA 10". We'll have to wait til later to see what that means, but it could be that one very lucky recipient is going to hit the lottery, so to speak.

The word is that these jewels will be delivered individually via armored car to their anxious owners, at which point a process known as "ripping" is expected to commence. That is, except for one owner who is expected to place his box on a diamond encrusted pedestal where it will remain for purposes of admiration for a period of at least 20 years.

I'm Ron Burgundy. You stay classy, collectors.

Nice pics! I zoomed in to see if I could see myself on an address label, but the image got too fuzzy. I am hoping that someone pulls a gem mint Henderson. He was my favorite non twin growing up. From his cool stance to all those stolen bases, he had it all. Now it appears as though he might be a bit of an egotisical jerk, but who knows. The guy was fun to watch. I used to try to get my parents to take me to the dome every time he was in town. Unfortunately, he was often injured.

I am also looking for any smoking condition Frank White's if anyone pulls one. This should be a fun rip!

are you collecting the "all-star" cards from this set?

Yes, I am and Frank White is the last one I need. Of course a couple of upgrades would be nice. I do have a raw White to go in on this month's special, but it is an 8 at best.

Definitely! It will be nice to put the "ghost of Gary" behind us with a legit box break. Hopefully, the cards will be nice like it seemed those 78's were. At any rate, we know we are getting untampered with wax. Pretty good price on it too IMHO.
  • So is anyone NOT going to open theirs right away?

i will be ripping upon arrival. image

this card always used to freak me out as a kid and still kinda does. looks like either Topps or Mr. Flannery himself had fun with a make-up pen......

  • I just looked through the pop report for this set and out of 8168 Rickey RC's graded, only NINE have been graded a 10. That's nuts.

There's also a BUNCH of commons where no 10's exist. And it looks like some of the tougher stars from this set (based on my uneducated opinion) are:

    Eddie Murray
    Ryan/JR Richard K Leaders
    Winfield
    Ozzie
    Nolan Ryan

floyd bannister is pretty hard common to find psa 10 also.

When all is said and done, if anybody doesn't want to keep their empty cardboard box that the stuff came in, I'd probably be willing to take it off your hands if it is in good condition. I figure that I need a way to store my pack collection, so why not store them in official Topps boxes?
I collect the elements on the periodic table, and some coins. I have a complete Roosevelt set, and am putting together a set of coins from 1880.

Ugh, isn't that what Gary used to say when he "claimed" the arrival of his deliveries?

Just kidding zef: best of luck pulling some gem mint cards! I'm looking forward to receiving my own virgin unopened box to crack! image
