Bernie Williams leaning to sign with Yankees as a minor leaguer

  • This guy basestealer comes on the board and makes absurd comments. It not like we are comparing Bernie's carreer statistics to the Tampa Bay Devil Rays. We are talking about career statistics of the Yankee greats such as Ruth, Gehrig, and DiMaggio which Bernie has surpassed. Its not worh wasting any more time with this naive poster.

"The answer was in the Patriots eyes. Gone were the swagger and c0ck sure smirks, replaced by downcast eyes and heads in hands. For his poise and leadership Eli Manning was named the game's MVP. The 2007 Giants were never perfect nor meant to be. They were fighters, scrappers....now they could be called something else, World Champions."

I agree, let's ignore him and talk about something else.

You did get angry, you know you did. You're a Yankees fan and nothing will do except total worshipping of the pinstripe. I can't say I ever felt the alpha male urge to defend a sports franchise, let alone take offense to someone pointing out the career stats of a mediocre player! But hey, maybe I wasn't raised right image >>

    base,

your kind is worse then any worshiping Yankee fan. Your kind will twist and re-create history to sooth your Yankee hating heart. Glad I saw this tonight! I will be on your back forever more now ..... image

You wouldn't be for Ruth playing through the '37 season would you? Come on. There is a time to call it quits and the stats don't lie.

Wow, such unfounded criticism for a guy that was unquestionably one of the KEY players of a Yankee dynasty that won FOUR freakin' World Series championships in a FIVE year period. Looks like clueless fans are starting out early this year. Bernie made 1.5 million last year and earned every bit of that salary. Hell, there are guys who spend the entire season on the DL or on the bench doing SQUAT that make more than that. 1.5 million is below the major league minimum for chrissakes.

But, more importantly, Bernie Williams represents the kind of player that the Yankees, or any other team for that matter, should cherish. Here's a guy who's given his heart and soul to the club and who never whined or complained even when it became apparent that the Yankees were going in another direction. There are plenty of guys who stuck around WAY longer than they should have: Gary Carter, Steve Carlton, Willie Mays, Pete Rose, even Mickey Mantle, but Bernie is still a rather productive part time player, as baseball stated, off the bench last year his numbers were solid. Guys like Bernie, though, add value beyond sheer numbers and stats, and I'm sure the Yankees realize and appreciate what he's contributed over the past couple seasons.

There are several teams he could play for next season, but his loyalty to the Yankees, and his character in general, are refreshing in this day and age.

    What's your problem man?

Look, how can you not see the guy needs to retire? How can you sit there and honestly defend this guy? 4 world series rings? Sure, but that was how long ago?

Its pure comedy to see these yankee nuts try to defend the indefensible.

I think Jerry's problem is ignorant baseball "fans" like you who come on here spewing nonsense like the above post, just a guess, though. image

The Yankees would have won 4 world series rings with or without Bernie. With a 400 million dollar payroll, the expect to win the series each and every year. I can't figure out why people like to enshrine mediocre Yankee players as if they were heroic players of epic proportions that hurled an underdog to a pennant... Maybe if Bernie played for the Tigers and won those rings, I'd feel differently. >>

But that's true. It's true, true, true. You want to deny the Yankee's giant payroll? You want to deny that they are the team to beat each season, with or without any single player (all of them are key, because all are overpaid and over-talented, Bernie didn't carry that team to jack!)
  • Think of it this way--if Bernie wasn't with the Yankees in 1996, they had the payroll and the clout to get ANY centerfielder they wanted--Griffey, for instance, who would have put up bigger numbers in any case. There is no player the Yankees cannot bankroll. So, to say that whomever they've overpaid to be there is somehow the "key player" is absurd. It's nonsense.

No way. Why would I? Bernie's stats speak for themselves. I don't care what he did during one game that got you all excited. His numbers stink to high heaven. You can't argue that unless you've never bothered looking at them!

I was just about to say the same thing. Obviously these "fans"??? dont watch Yankees games and certainly didnt see Bernie fill in last season.

I see this is going to be another interesting season with Yankees bashers who know nothing about the game or the Yankees. Don't get me wrong, I enjoy a good debate but it has to be with someone who knows what's going on.

Wow, Basestealer, you are really showing yourself here and you argue about a player's performance? How on earth can ANYONE be a baseball fan, or any sports fan for that matter, if that is what you believe?

Here's a little lesson about sports...often times, it's more than just the numbers.
  • There are no yankees bashers here. There are only people telling the truth, and every Yankees FAN on this board rallying around a pack of lies like banshees. If Bernie was so great (a laugh) why wasn't he offered a spot in the roster? You can't come up with an answer. You've put words into my mouth and wobbled all around the issues. You're just sick that someone would have anything to say other than to kiss Bernie's overhyped butt. Right? Right.

Do you really believe anyone living outside of a crazed, hysterical bubble will believe what you just said? You said one can't be a sports fan if they analyze the numbers? LOL. You believe the game is more than numbers--and it is, and I never said otherwise. I said Bernie was a good guy, and he was loyal. I also said his performance has been on the decline for 5 years, and it has. You fans can make a hero out of a single game while the guy tanks statistically, but the people in charge, the people upstairs--they know the truth, and they canned Bernie. That's something you can never "fan" away.

I dont think I have seen anyone here say that he deserves to have a roster spot this spring. If he earns it, then great. That means the Yanks feel he has something to offer.

I think I have just become dumber by responding to that post.

Then why are you arguing with me? You argue for the sake of arguing--you haven't even read this thread. Amazing. You're glib.

Basestealer, are you even reading what you wrote before you post completely the opposite of what you said in an earlier post?

Obviously, there is only going in circles with you. I dont have to energy to argue with someone who cant make up their mind.

I've maintained the same position throughout this entire thread. Your idiotic "fan friends" have quoted OTHER POSTERS and attributed them to ME. Don't be as lazy and stupid as they are--read the thread for yourself, moron. You're too stupid to argue with. When you realize you've made a mistake and apologize, I won't forgive you. But be a man and do it anyway.

Hmmm....I think Axhole may have hijacked someone's account. Some awful similarities here...the name calling out of sheer anger and pounding on the keyboard is showing its creepy little head....

There are only people telling the truth, and every Yankees FAN on this board rallying around a pack of lies like banshees.

"People" telling the truth, you mean you & SteveA, both of whom have no clue about baseball? And, BTW, I'm not even a Yankee fan (as my name Grote15 should indicate), but any fan of BASEBALL should know and appreciate what Bernie has done for the Yankees.

You keep harping on Bernie's "decline"over the past five years. Well, no kidding, of course he's not the same player he was five years ago, but he earned his minimum salary and then some last season, and the point of this thread (which has apparently been forgotten by you) is not that Bernie deserves to be the starting CF or anything like that, but that he is a class act and a great Yankee throughout his career.

That's my opinion. You can't handle it. Too bad.

Even Axhole had better rejoinders than that lame attempt at a comeback.

I wasn't the one who got personal. Like I said in another thread where gang mentality ruled, you idiots are forever damned in my book and frankly any niceness I might show you is purely an act. Get that straight. You're sick, deranged monsters and stalkers. Pompous sheep who follow the pack. You deserve neither respect nor admiration. I am surprised the powers that be haven't kicked the lot of you off this forum, and even more surprised that people who previously had a backbone don't take a stand against your nonsense. But it doesn't surprise me all that much, considering from whence you came. You and I both know.

Laugh all you want--the proof is right here on this thread. FIRST PAGE. Post by "softparade". He attacks, attacks more, and continues to berate all dissenting opinions. You're a fool amongst fools--you believe 3 vocal bullies laughing it up at your easily disproven mutual lies will rally the crowd? I beg to differ. People can read for themselves.

What a crock! What hysterical hyperbole! You come on here spouting nonsense and slinging insults calling other posters "moron" and then play the poor victim when you're EXPOSED as the fraud that you are! LOL! The only "nonsense" here is coming from your piehole, pal!

Like I said, gloid, the proof is here in this thread. Page one. softparade's posts. Read them and free yourself from lies. Or not--you already know the truth. I'm not your huckleberry, bully. You won't win, intimidate, or gain a thing with your nonsense. It's time the trash was taken out on this board, and I'm the garbage man. Free yourself from your lies now, or suffer the consequences.

  • << <i>Waaaaaaaaaaaa Waaaaaaaaaaaaaa Waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa!!!! He called me a name first! ::::sniff sniff::::: >>

So it's okay when you lie and claim I hurled insults first. When I prove this is a lie, you turn around and call me a crybaby--which is exactly what you were just doing yourself, before your lies were refuted. Unbelievable. Let me take a wild guess-none of you have college degrees? I'm surprised if any of you "gradiated high skewl"

    I'm the garbage man

Finally, something I can agree with you on!

You've been posting on these boards for what, like a month at most, and already you've drawn the ire of many more than just the few of us who have posted on this one thread.

Methinks you doth protest too much!

But then again, I know your kind, the ignorant blowhard who likes to stoke the flames, like another guy who used to post here and who got banned, but you & I both know all bout that, too, huh? image
