2Bucks.....Oh grow up, you are a jerk and an idiot if you can't see the games being played here. This thread was started on the US coin forum for the sole reason to boost Floridabill's auction. He has changed the prize THREE times. He downgraded the prize from a four piece PLATINUM proof set to a 5$ constitution gold piece. And you call me the jerk. Get a life and a clue bro.
Edited to quote 2bucks comments to show that he struck first blood. I am only counterpunching, not attacking.

Just so I get the facts straight, FloridaBill started this thread on the US Coin Forum offering a 4-Piece Platinum Proof set ($2800-3000). Every one must think, "If it's too good to be true.....".
At some point the thread was moved over here & the 'prize' was reduced to a 1987 US Constitution Silver & Gold proof set (that's when I joined in). Still a $275-$325 prize. Still too good to be true? I thought so, but....
Now the prize is down to a 2006 SF UNC dollar! According to this eBay auction, if you don't account for the postage, are worth $1.05!
Since this looks like FloridaBill's first giveaway, maybe we should guess the price on the auction, and make suggestions on improvements on his giveaway........like deciding on a realistic prize & sticking to it.

I Totally agree. The only reason Floridabill played these games changing the prize was G-R-E-E-D plain and simple. He is playing games for the sole purpose of maxing out his precious platinum four piece set auction. I wonder how many forumites bid high in hopes of winning the four piece plat set as a prize.

Has he done anything like this in the past? Do you have reason to believe he is not who he says he is? Why are you so sure of yourself?
ajia - While I agree with giving FB advice about giveaways... last I looked, the prize is a 1987 US Constitution $5 Gold and Silver $ Proof Set. We will see if it's too good to be true.

Luckily the highest bid is still lower than the going rate for these.
FloridaBill may have used this site for exposer, but his games may have cost him some bids too.

2Bucks, read the 'original' post; er, make that the first post; it's been revised again, "The giveway of a 2006 SF UNC $ to the person that most closely guesses the closing price of my auction,....."
A giveaway is a giveaway, I would never complain about that, but the way this one was handled is questionable.
<< <i>You changed the prize during the middle of the contest. Your prize was a 4 piece platinum proof set. I agree some forum members might have bid up the price based on your original prize. Let's see....you have how much invested in his auction? It is costing you HOW MUCH to be in the giveaway? Hmmm....nothing each time? But, you sure are whiner! If you don't like it, ignore it. Ignore the OP. Why be suh a jerk in a post though?

No, Joe, you and Augie are both wrong (not that Augie likes to jump to any conclusions ).
Read the post (and, I saw the original one he posted before ANY edits)....first offer was the SF UNC dollar. Then he got a little sauced or something and edited to add the plat set IF it was someone from this forum who hit it right on the head, THEN it is where it stands now...the gold/silver set.
I don't agree with the whole thread (the "check out my auction, and, oh yeah, here is a giveaway to help drive it more....and, oh year, this is in the USCF (at the time)") but I am not going to slam someone past that for a giveaway. The thread got moved. That should be that. No one has any money out because of this (and, if they did bid on the ebay auction trying for the extra plat set, then, imho, they are MORONS for doing that....that is even worse than betting in the field in craps and just letting it ride (I've done that though ).
As stated in the (edited) OP:
<< <i> I originally posted a giveaway for an UNC SF Silver $ to whoever came the closest to guessing the closing price.
Then, a day or two later, I had the no-so-bright idea of throwing in a “kicker” of the plat proof set if the person who made the highest bid had 1) registered that bid as his/her guess and 2) was the successful high bidder at that price. I happily admitted at the time that is was a tremendous long shot, but it COULD happen.
It was subsequently pointed out to me via PMs that this could be easily cheated by two people working in concert with a double snipe. I reluctantly withdrew the offer for the plat proof. I also offered to cancel any then current bid by a board member upon request (there were no such requests).
Also, as an act of contrition and as a way of apologizing for my mistake, I upped the original giveaway to a 1987 US Constitution silver Dollar & $5 Gold Proof Set. That is where it now stands >>
The progression of the giveaway items is listed there, in order, and accurate as I watched the thread unfurl.
I just looked at your post. I added an extra nine in my guess and meant 39998.88, BUT, thats OK. If the bidding gets very spirited.... LOL Don't worry about the naysayers. Some people will pick on anyone and anything. Good luck with the auction. I think you have a very generous give away! Ray

Augie, I didn't even read your long post (quoted above). not gonna play games or nitpick. You like to nitpick on people's posts and such. I posted my viewpoint from reading many of your posts...you do like to jump to conclusions and on people. Nuff said. Ignore it if you don't like it. Not gonna bother explaining it.
You're right, you do have right to your viewpoint, as I do mine. So how can you say "No, Joe, you and Augie are both wrong ." when these are our points of view? Or if you, "didn't even read your long post." Did you make the decision I was wrong based on other threads? Must have as you state, "I posted my viewpoint from reading many of your posts...you do like to jump to conclusions and on people."
If I seem too opinionated for you, then don't read what I have to say, I don't think I've ever directed any your way until now.
It would have gone higher if everyone would have bid their own guess! Anyhow, $2K over cost (OK, 1.8 after costs) is not bad for only tying up your money a month or two!
