I thought my question had merit, and was asked in a respectfull manner.
I'll answer them in this way.
"Hint Could have"
In general I'd agree with this statement even though in my case I was well aware of this offering I simply chose not to purchase it.
As for the "Non buyers remorse" nah I don't have that either. I expected a better reply from you Ziggy.
What I wanted to hear was some reasons. Are they seeking MS 70 specimans? Has John Q Public been brought in? people that do not get Mint offerings by mail, etc? are they driving this? Is it dealers?
I sure as heck did not say that collecting/flipping/chewing/wiping these coins was nither bad nor good.
"Truth is a torch but a tremendous one. That is why we hurry past it, shielding our eyes, indeed, for fear of getting burned." Johann Wolfgang von Goethe
Sorry if it seemed flippant Steve, I just thought you pretty much answered your own question. I would guess that specific reasons would include those you mentioned as well as, "couldn't afford at that time", "didn't know about it until too late", "change my mind, then changed it back again", "got some free submission coupons", "saw in advertised in the newspaper for a lot more", "my boss said that he wanted one, and I knew I could make a few bucks - he owes me anyway"... Sorry again Steve, couldn't resist. ps. I would guess a lot has to do with non-collectors getting the word late, like you said...
The reason i asked was sback in 86 I had the good fortune to buy 10 sets, 5 unc and 5 proof of the statue of liberty coin and that market was fueled if I remm. correctly by the public.
I surely hope that 'could have" is not driving this market.
No problem, thanks for the replies.
Steve
edit to add: I guess 4574.09 Good luck with the auction!
No question you are spamming the board with this thread and I hope CU discourages it or the next thing this forum will turn into an ebay buy and sell, its a bad precedent Bill. That said I was put off by some of your claims in your sales pitch, modern rarity for instance. I hate it when someone claims to know a coin will be a rarity. There is always the chance supply will outstrip demand if only 2 coins are minted. Better in my opinion to be more honest and just say its one of the lowest minted..etc etc. Too much hype for me.
Yes I do collect moderns and mint products so before one of you over sensitive posters goes off on my collecting habits be forewarned. You asked for advice or critique and you got an honest answer.

No problem Bill, although I did want to see two guys get together to snag the prize at $64k. This, actually, keeps it pretty clean. Good luck with the auction.
You changed the prize during the middle of the contest. Your prize was a 4 piece platinum proof set. I agree some forum members might have bid up the price based on your original prize. I also think your contest should be on the BST forum. I don't want to be part of your games, so please remove me from your contest.

You're a jerk. If you can't understand why he changed the giveaway, you need to be committed. BTW - For all of you saying it should be moved to the BST, you're all wrong it should be moved to Coin Swaps, Tags, and GIVEAWAYS!
FloridaBill don't sweat it. There can be a lot of mean spirited people here.
<< <i>Maybe someone already placed a bid based on your previous offer. >>
The only person that could have placed a bid already is the current high bidder. If the current high bidder is a member of this forum and wishes to retract his/her bid, please pm me.
This contest (which appears to be solely an OT advertising ploy) has changed three times in the last three days. It's becoming a little silly at this point.
That said, just in case this happens to be the final version of the contest, I'll toss a guess of $4787.
I heard they were making a French version of Medal of Honor. I wonder how many hotkeys it'll have for "surrender."

Hell, I don't need to exercise.....I get enough just pushing my luck.
I don't think comparing these to old gold helps any.
Good Luck and thanks for the chance!
Thank you for the giveaway chance

I understand why you changed giveaway and think that the substitute giveaway is very worthy... Never look a gift horse in the mouth don't they say.
