Where were you 65 years ago today?

How about posting some 1941 coinage, and more importantly, remember those who lost their lives on that horrific Sunday morning.

Bruce
he also joined the navy to help the war effort after the bombing pearl harbor.
True to his country, very honorable
My dad served in the war along with four of his five brothers (one was underage). A couple were involved in combat and a ship nearly
sunk in a storm but all five came back alive.
Is "Tora Tora Tora" being shown on TV today? Probably some channel will have it, a very interesting movie.
<< <i>I was a gleem in my fathers eye!, >>
My parents weren't even gleems in my grandparents eyes yet. Sad day in history though.

Me to, not until 1970. My grandmother was on the USS Tranquility (floating hospital) and has told many true accounts.
Probably on AMC, or the History channel, great movie
My icon IS my coin. It is a gem 1949 FBL Franklin.
I hope not, tried to keep it coin related.
He spent the next 20 years there and had quite an honored career (not quite an Audie Murphy) but lots of medals and stripes.

I wasn't even close
Dad was in the service at this time but was doomed to serve only in the USA because of a eyesight problem. 39 years ago at just about this time in the morning I was just about ready to walk into the Portland, OR induction center to begin a journey into another USA conflict had happened across the pacific ocean.
Now a coin.....

<< <i>makes me think of the ending of saving private private in that i hope we all respect and live a life those who died for us "would be proud of"...my belated father was a korean war naval vet and was for the most part why i too joined the navy myself and so note...the reason why our family refuses mitsubishi products as is it's the same outfit that made those "zero's" and its soo sad to see their products now accepted over here and i'm sure some are in agreement with me on that note >>
War is an ugly thing but I don't believe in holding grudges over it, best to let bygones be bygones is the way I see it.

I agree. Today's young Japanese are not what their grandparents and great-grandparents were at the time of the war. Even then it was more the imperial government than the people of Japan which was most worthy of contempt.
<< <i><<I wonder if this thread will be poofed like Wes' was the day Kennedy was shot? >>
I hope not, tried to keep it coin related. >>
I hope not too, but Wes' was coin related also and the whiney forum cops got it pulled anyway.

Here is a link to the famous FDR speech that came the day after attack. He didn't mince words or give a crap about being pc. Great speech!

But just in case...July 4, 1776? Why, I wasn't born yet.
Seriously, December 7, 1941? I wasn't born yet.
Apropos of the coin posse/aka caca: "The longer he spoke of his honor, the tighter I held to my purse."
The best part is,
We actually got the guy who did it. !!!
Why step over the dollar to get to the cent? Because it's a 55DDO.

<< <i>I hope someone doesn't start asking these questions for every significant day of our country's history. >>
Why not? As long as folks are relating it to coins, what's the big deal?
My icon IS my coin. It is a gem 1949 FBL Franklin.
My Dad joined the Navy just after the attack and saw action in the south pacific.
I was born a year and a 11 days after the war ended

A bunch of molecules waiting to be assembled only a few years later.
God Bless Them!
BTW I didn't show up until about D-Day and Dad ended up there too.
Hehe, my grandparents were only 2 years old in 1941.
