Thanks Brandon. So now you can see that weak spot. I find the level of weakness truly incredible. The ends of the arrows darn near disappear in the field. I love it.
<< <i>USCGCraig, here is the scan of your 1893-o >>
The 94-O & 05-P have a POP of 2 each in XF 45 at PCGS. [ You know this, I'm sure ]. The 97-O has a POP of 4 in XF 45; the 97-S has a POP of 3 in XF 45 at PCGS.
I don't have an NGC POP report handy...I'd search for some AU 50's in NGC holders if I were you. You know they'll drop them to XF 45; just hope they don't drop them to XF 40's.
Edited to add: Excellent 93-O !!!
Dan,
The new 08-D in 58 still amazes me as well. Wish my whole set looked as good.
Fletcher,
You've been picking up some very - very nice coins lately. Care to let us know where you're finding these beauties ?
Brandon,
Do you have the new 02-P in hand yet ?
Dale,
When are you going to get your quaters imaged ? Please, I'm dying to see them !
Sunnywood,
Any plans on starting halves or dimes ?
Stan,
There's a well founded rumor that alot more VG/F halves will be on the market very soon on Ebay. I can't say who told me, but its going to happen soon enough.
Dave,
Wouldn't you love to image these coins yourself ?
Hey everyone: There are some very seriously nice coins being imaged here. [ Like I need to tell anyone !! ]
Now...lets see what I can dig up out of my images that hasn't been shown before...if you've seen it before, then enjoy it again ...
Mike Hayes ~~~~~~~~~~~~ Coin collecting is not a hobby, it's an obsession !
Mike, I had it in hand briefly and it was sent to PCGS regular service today. As soon as they receive it and the grades are posted I'll let you know. I hope it's a grade you don't need but AU58 would be better than a bodybag. Nice original 1913! I love this thread now that I'm posting!
See below for a common date quarter (1898 PCGS MS63) with nice color.
I wish my photography skills were a bit better. Sorry gentlemen.
Overall the coin has an even, gun-metal copper color (very even toning) with light 'rose' and 'emerald' highlights around the devices.
This little guy even has a cool die break through "WE TRUST". You may be able to see it if you look very closely.
I picked this quarter up about 10 years ago at a coin show in Seattle. Can't remember what I paid for it, but the guy bent me over pretty good. But I had to have it.
If you saw the reverse of this '98 in person, you'd want to lick it. Trust me.
Dave
Always looking for original, better date VF20-VF35 Barber quarters and halves, and a quality beer.
Great Barber quarter. I love that dark, multi colored toning on Barber quarters. The older PCGS holder also adds to the overall "look".
Mike,
I have to agree, buying raw, common date coins, with the intention of holdering the coin later on, probably doesn't make much sense. You would be better off just buying the coin already holdered. It's a totally different situation if you're buying them raw for the pupose of displaying them in a Dansco album, with no intention of ever holdering the coins.
Fletcher, You're really picking up some excellent Barbers. Working on three series at one time will keep you running frantic, I'm afraid. I found it alot easier to concentrate on one set at a time, and only attempted another set when I was almost complete with the last set. Nice additions too; good looking 12-D & S.
I have noticed that Irv seems to be selling off quite a few of his AU coins...and he just bumped me at NGC; he seems to be adding a few MS coins every so often. I wish he would start adding images to his set.

Dan - I agree, I also like HLRC's alot more than JJT's. $7.5K more for the F15, just isn't worth it. Dave - You're right, the JJT image does suck...I'm sure the coin is alot nicer in hand. Fletcher - Still no 1911 dime - yet.
My Barber submissions were mailed by PCGS on 2/9 - still have not received them as yet, either.
I don't know if I ever posted this 1897 before. I purchased this in a NGC AU58 slab. I cracked it out and PCGS gave it a 62. Nice colors and luster. The 1898 is AU58.
SmallTown - That is one great 13-S quarter. Thank you for sharing your pics.
Tom, as usual: nicely toned dimes! I know, I know, I sound like a broken record. But it had to be said. Great color too. The reverse of the 1897-P is flat dreamy.
So the 1897-P dime jumped from NGC58 to PCGS62? Careful now, Tom....in fact, can you even say that on this board?

Always looking for original, better date VF20-VF35 Barber quarters and halves, and a quality beer.
I haven't received the coin yet, but the images sure look good. The coin is a recent Ebay acquisition.......care of Don Soles. Knowing the eye that Don Soles has for mid-grade circulated Barber halves.....I'm confident it's going to be a keeper. For a common date Barber half, I haven't found this date, in this grade, to be all that common.
Edited to add: I received the coin in the mail yesterday........and it's a keeper!
I received the Barber submissions this afternoon. Nice having almost everything all in one holder for a change.
Still can't see why the 01-S half didn't cross. I guess, it is what it is. The two dimes that didn't cross didn't bother me all that much, I'll just keep looking for these already in a PCGS holder.
The down graded pieces should upgrade at a future date on resubmissions; the same thing happened to me on my first cross over of my NGC SLQ's: all the initial downgrades were upgraded on the second submission.
FYI:
Anyone - that's pretty funny, really - see all the mid range PCGS Barber Halves on Ebay today ? Arnie has about a dozen and a half that would look great in just about anyone's collection. I'm tracking a few...and havn't decided if I'll be bidding on anything or not. Check them out !
I also received the newest addition to the dime set today, the previously discussed 1911-P in PCGS 58. The coin is alot nicer in person than the images portray.

Do your best to avoid circular arguments, as it will help you reason better, because better reasoning is often a result of avoiding circular arguments.
On the other end of the spectrum: a dateless Barber half which I think has only honest wear and would not be bodybagged for cleaning if someone was foolish enough to submit this to PCGS in search of a grade of 0 (identifieable only by type)
"Never attribute to malice what can be adequately explained by stupidity" - Hanlon's Razor

BlueLobster,
A 20th century type set.........sounds awfully familiar. About 3 years ago, my type set took a drastic turn when it came to the Barber quarter and half. After finding my Barber type's, I fell in love with the Barber quarter and half series, and never looked back. I never did finish my type set. Nice 1901 BTW.

Seems as if it may be cheaper to buy PCGS AU 58's already holdered for the common dates than to get some of my raw coins holdered.
