Here is the King with a Pop of 5. I have never seen any of the other 4 pieces so I can't say how this one compares to the others. This one was an ex-Gary Hultman piece. Care to guess the grade. Coin has nice original skin and a full strike. How ofter do we see that on a Barber Half?

Looks like one of the better XF 45's IMHO.

BTW: Did you see the 1898-O NGC MS 67 in the Superior auction scheduled for Jan 2nd or 3rd ???
Mike Hayes ~~~~~~~~~~~~ Coin collecting is not a hobby, it's an obsession !
Yes, I've seen that coin before, but I don't like it as much as either of my two - even my MS65 compares favorably. This is why I have given up on NGC. I will buy coins in NGC holders, but I will base my sense of value on what I believe the PCGS grade would be. NGC is particularly over-generous with type in the MS66-MS68 range. So a coin like that '98-O ends up in "No Man's Land" ... because it will probably be reserved at MS66+ or MS67 levels, but may not really be worth it. My prediction: the coin will not sell.
I'll add to the XF-45 posts........a 1915 with a nice amount of underlying luster and original grime to it. The white mark on the obverse rim at 2 o'clock is not on the coin.
I'm guessing that 11-S is closer to XF40 then XF45. What do you think?
Here's three more in celebration of Boxing Day.
1911 Pop 4 bought from JJ Teaparty. Nice perfect wear for an XF45.
1894-P pop 6 Bought on Ebay as an ANACS AU50. I'm not crazy about the stain on the reverse and will probably replace if I find a more aesthetically pleasing piece.
Lastly, a 95-O with a pop of just 2. I traded an AU piece to Ken Larson for this XF45. We both came out winners.
So what else do folks have? I still have another 40+ images to add. I'm guessing quite a few folks are wondering why the Barber Thread is well over 100 actual coin related posts.
Not a peep. I did pick up a NGC AU55 93-O from David Lawrence. Should grade as AU50/53 and might foster as some trade bait for someone who has an XF45.
Next is a Pop 10 piece that I traded an AU53 I made from a raw coin to Ken Larson.
Next we have a Pop 4 piece I picked up from Teletrade. I'm not crazy about the toning spots on the reverse and wouldn't heistate picking up another piece that is mroe uniform. The wear pattern is perfect though.
Lastly, here is a Pop 8 piece Ipicked up from Dean Schmidt on Ebay.
Come on folks. Keep this going. I only have another 35 images or so left.
I know my coins don't fit the "look" of all those nice circ halves (which i do like) ... so I hope you'll all forgive another colorful mint state coin or two !!
It's been a while since I posted this blue 1902-O, or this lime green 1906-D ...
Here's a few more for today. The first is a pop 5 I picked up way back in October of 2003 from Dr. Pete.
Next, we have a pop 2. I traded an AU50 to Irv Reichel for this coin. Mine was an ex-ICG AU53 I picked up from Heritage. I really like the look of this piece.
Lastly, I have a pop 6 piece. This coin I acquired in a trade with Gary Hultman for my AU55. I made that coin from an ANACs AU50. Not a bad jump.
Trading for XF 45 with AU 53's must be costing you a fortune. The "true view" images are VERY nice. I hope, as well, that they continue with this feature for a long time.
Once the dime set is holdered - which I'm bringing to FUN next week - I'll have the entire Barber series "true view" imaged as well.
Here's my 1903 from my second set:
Edited to add the 1903-O in VF 35 - EX: ANACS - Now: PCGS VF 35.

Sunnywood,
If my finances permitted.......I would GLADLY change my collecting grades from XF/AU to high mint state. Being what they are, I'm happy collecting my Barber's in the high circ grades. This doesn't mean that I don't enjoy looking at other collector's, super hi-end, mint state, Barber coins. Thanks for sharing those beauties with us!
Mike,
I'm looking forward to viewing all your completed Barber sets, with Tru-View.
Craig,
I'm finding the 1908-S to be a super tough coin to find in XF/AU, a real sleeper IMO. I reflected this opinion in the recent Barber Half Census/Rarity Survey, currently being conducted by the BCCS.
<< <i>It's not new, but I like it so much, I thought I'd share my 1893-s PCGS AU58 Barber Half with you again.

Now that's one nice AU 58 of an extremely difficult date !!! This 1893-S is one of the nicest AU's I have seen. When did you get it ?
I'll edit this post later at home with the image of my AU 55. >>
Thanks, I've always liked this date and needed a nice Barber half for my type set. It's been in my collection for many years and I always enjoy looking at it. The coin is totally original with a somewhat prooflike surface, which is more evident on the reverse.
<< <i>Instead of editing my previous post , I thought I'd just TTT it with the image of my 1893-S PCGS AU 55:
>>
Nice 93-s. The luster characteristics remind me of my AU-58. It's such a great date, and although I hate terms like "underrated", wouldn't you agree that it can only go up in price?
I love all these Barber pics; dimes, quarters and halves from circ to gem BU. No one should feel down because their's is a lower grade piece. Anyone in the know realizes just how difficult these coins are in Fine and above condition. Here's a few more to keep this ball rolling.
Oh yeah, a pair of 11-S's, a 93-O and 94-O along with a Missouri 2x4 are going to PCGS today. Can't wait.
The first is a pop 12 crusty 1892 and is my first XF45 I bought circa January 2003. This is the coin that turned me on to XF45 Barber Halves.
Next is a beautiful pop 3 that resided in an NGC AU53 holder I bought on Ebay.
This pop 10 was bought on Ebay. Coin looks so much better in hand.
Lastly, is a pop 4 1898-O that resided in an NGC XF45 holder. I bought this coin and the 1904-P above from M. Flanagan on Ebay in SEP06. Just how accurate is NGC's grading anyway? I really like this piece and thought it would be one of my last one's.
A pop 6 1893-S (Mike is dying over this one) that I purchased raw from a small coin store.
Finally, a pop 4 and one of my favorites. This coin began its life as an ANACS XF45 and on the crackout, PCGS gave it a grade of XF40. I subseqently cracked out againa nd the coin came back as XF40. I did the Presidential Review and the coin was finally assigned it's correct grade. PCGS just doesn't care for that darker circulated cameo look. This is also a coin that Don Soles was trying to get from me for a long time. Sorry Don.
Happy New Year to everyone and keep your pictures coming.
Here's a pop 3 1909-P that use to reside in an ANACS AU50 holder.
Next is a pop 2 1905-O. Coin was in an NGC XF45 holder, cracked out and graded as XF40. I subsequently had it regraded correctly as XF45. Coin has a very weak strike as noticed on the shield. Incredibly tough coin to find in the VF-AU grades.
Lastly, a pop 5 1898-S I picked up as a raw piece on Ebay with many thanks to Mike Hayes. The original piece I had contained a dig in the field in front of the eye. I couldn't quite tell if it was mint made or after. I like this coin a ton better.
I am more than happy to point out coins that come onto the Market to any Barber collector.
I usually preview all avenues, so when a collector I know is actively looking for a certain date, I try and point it out to him/ her. Of course, only when I don't need it for one of my sets.............
The last coin posted, the 1898-S , [although very nice and normally I would have tried to get it for myself] , was a date I already owned in AU 55 and XF 45. I was more than pleased to make Craig aware of its existance. Of course, knowing Craig, he would have discovered it by himself, sooner or later !
The year 1898 has a personal connection with my family. As a result, I have a few coins bearing that date; not to bore you [ God, I hope I'm not ] here are a few of those 1898's

the graders at NGC are very lenient with their grades.
