Now I am upset. I sent PCGS Customer Support an email very early this morning stating I still haven't received my Tru-View Images and that my credit card was charged 3-weeks ago. Still don't have them. I just now received an email saying they have been shipped to me today.
WTF over!!!!!!!!!!
I paid $120 just to get eight coins re-holdered? Surely PCGS can't be that off their game. Even then, 30 days to get coins re-holdered? I received nary a phone call or email from them. Now I am going to have to wait for the coins to come back to me and then I have to ship them back out. It's going to take another 3-4 weeks before I get my images. PCGS better make right on this. My invoice clearly states Tru-View and I was charged accordingly for it.
If anyone at PCGS is reading this, please take action. My submission number is: 3592835
I'm very surprised by this. Phil has always done a fantastic job. I know they are still doing Tru-view as I submitted my 05-P for regrade the same exact day and got Tru-View as well which I received.
I know, I know, keep thinking about the holiday spirit and I am................Urgghhhhh
I feel your pain. Last January while at FUN, when I submitted a large group of coins, I requested True View and was told that the service was no longer available. I'm planning on another large submission but I'll write True View all over the invoices and hope I don't have the same situation that you have had.
Anyone going to the FUN show next month ? I plan on it, and will be there Thursday and Friday. There's a BCCS meeting on Friday the 11th at 3:00 to 4:30 in Rm 322; for"Show & Tell" I'm bringing my Jules Reiver 1898-O " small " O Half Dollar and a normal MM for comparison as well as my 1892-O Micro O and a normal MM.
Wish I could go to FUN. Would be FUN to do show and tell and I'd really like to see your 98-O Micro O Mike in person. Maybe you can personally show it to the powers that be at PCGS.
Thanks for the comments on the 95 group. Provenance: MFH, ARCO, dogwood, in that order.
MFH sent an email with a link to NGC site about the 1897 PF69 UC recently sold. There was a link on that page about David Lange's lifelong Barber addiction, if anyone is interested (from earlier this month). I don't visit over there very often, so this may old news to many here, wasn't sure.
Do your best to avoid circular arguments, as it will help you reason better, because better reasoning is often a result of avoiding circular arguments.
Craig, Good luck with the Tru-Views...they still do the photos but not for cross-overs. Am assuming you're doing reholders with Tru-Views. Would like to hear how it turns out...I have a bunch I need to get photo'd also. I hope someday you're able to display your collection at one of the major coin shows...it would be an honor to meet you and view your collection in person.
Mike, Glad you had a great time at the coin show with your Dad...those special moments are priceless...thanks for filling us in.
To all the Barberphiles out there: I wish you all a very Merry Christmas and a very healthy, happy, and prosperous New Year!
I've decided to start another Barber series; afterall what else would I do after the other Barber series are virtually complete ?
Anyhow, it'll be a circualted MS version, unless I am lucky enough to locate PR 58's. Don't laugh, I know full well I won't find the last two dates needed in " 58 " .
Thought this was a nice way of starting off the collection:
I did not notice the two pin dots - resembling a semi-colon inbetween the 8 & 7. Also, the coin's images are grey, the coin I received is very white. Its been photoshopped...sorry to say !!!
Also, no offense to the graders at this fine establishment, however, the coin's been played with - there are very obvious cleaning lines under each wing on the reverse.
Back she goes...Darn It !!! I was hoping to start a collection of these starting with this coin.
Mike Hayes ~~~~~~~~~~~~ Coin collecting is not a hobby, it's an obsession !
I like that 1877-S Trade dollar, and in my favorite grade too. Last April I was at a coin show and picked up a beautiful, NGC, AU-58, 1878-S Trade dollar. You don't see too many that are attractive in the AU grades. Trade dollars appear to be moving up in price, in the higher circ grades, in the last 6 months or so.
Nice Trade Mike. I really like the ones made in to "potty" dollars. Very cool.
As for my Tru-View images, just got off the phone with customer service. They confirmed images were done. They don't know why the photos have not been emailed to me or why they aren't associated with the certs. It's early and Phil wasn't in yet (may be on vacation). The wait continues.......
NICE Trade Dollar. Damn, now I'm gonna to have to buy one
Tom >>
Tom, there's another 1877-S TD in PCGS 58 on eBay as I type this. Nice looking too !!
---------------------------------------------
Broadstruck,
Me thinks you'll be getting a Stella before I ever do. There's got to be an O/C out there with your name on it.
---------------------------------------------
Edited to add:
I just got a phone call from another collector who is divesting himself of his Barber quarters. Looks like I've got four upgrades being sent to me: 1892-S Ty. 1 AU 58 [ I have a Ty. 2, now], 1896-O AU 58 [ I just upgraded my AU 53 with a 55 last month !! ], 1897-S AU 58 [ very tough coin ! ], and lastly a 1902-S in AU 58 [ have an AU 55 now.]. All four coins sound lovely, and yes, they're all in PCGS holders.
Edit: The 1892-S Ty 1 is absolutely beautiful = deep golden and blue OBV toning; Lighter gold and Aqua REV toning. Its a very well struck coin and a definite plus to my collection.
The 1896-O has amber golden rim toning with white/gold centrals. Very attractive coin. Actually paid a little less for this AU 58 than what I recently paid for my AU 55. However, the AU 53 which is now a triplicate(*) is now available to someone who needs it...sorry for the solicitation...its in an OGH and is basically white with great luster and looks alot like my AU 55 in my second tier set.
The 1897-S is discussed below:
The 1902-S is basically blast white with no toning what-so-ever. Its a nice looking coin with swirling luster.
----------------------------------------------
I'll have to do some thinking later on as to what I'll do with the duplicates(*); it seems as though I have a good start on a second set already with the other upgrades I've been picking up.
----------------------------------------------
I'm thrilled to get the 1897-S in AU 58 though.
Edit: Although this coin turned out to be absolutely lovely at first glance, there is a hairline or two in front of Liberty's nose; one deep enough to be called a scratch. I'm surprised it was holdered.
-----------------------------------------------
I finished packing up a large group for cross over consisting mostly of halves. All the missing dates @ PCGS from my second tier set hopefully will cross. Once I have a minute, I'll outline the submission and report back with the other TPG's grades, how I graded them and lastly what PCGS thought of these coins and their grades. I think PCGS & I will be alot closer than PCGS and the other TPG's !!!
------------------------------------------------
Edited again:
Tom Casey has an eye for Barber dimes and he notified me of a couple I need for my certified set...all I have at the moment is the image of the 1912-P in PCGS 58 ... I should have the image of the 12-D tomorrow.

Mike, Very nice trade dollar...I've often considered the "trades" or seated liberty halves as my next quest but will have to see how the pocketbook holds out! Good luck! Dave
He bought the 1909-O from Bushmaster this August...I and Bushmaster were about to consumate an arrangement but I was on Cape Cod without internet access...and when I went back to continue negotiations I found out that Irv had already bought it.
Its a pretty looking coin with very vivid colors. I believe the BIN price is $1900; its also a POP 1 in AU55, with one AU 58 above it [ for circulated grades, that is. ]
If it doesn't sell on eBay...consider it in Elbesaar's Barber Quarter Collection
There are some nice looking coins in this group he's selling, that's for sure.

Finally got my Tru_views. Here's the first. A sweet little 1911-S I bought raw off of Ebay from Perryhall. Pop of 2 in XF45. Perfect wear pattern for XF45 and this is what I'm trying to get that 05-P to.
That's a real nice 11-S. How's the wear progressing on your 05-P pocket piece?
This thread has to be up there with one of the best of the year. It's nice to be able to go to a thread and read posts that you know will be both positive in nature and informative.
Nice group of coins. Congratualtions. Sorry for the BB, but you never know how they'll look at a rim nick.
I edited my post on the 1877-S TD...its going back.
Edited Re: Post immediately following:
Thanks, Dan. I'm tracking the other 77-S on eBay now. I'd like to keep the coin in a 58, as that's the grade I'd like to complete the set in.
Re-edited:
Just picked up a few nice VF 20's in raw state for the Whitman Bookshelf album, plus another sweet 1914-P in NGC 45, whose image is too large to post. I'll post the image of my newest 1914-P once the image fits into this format, under 50kb.

Here's an upgrade for my 2nd tier set, and Thank You to TomB for sending it, as well as Dave99B for resizing it.
Its in an NGC XF 45 Holder and soon to be crossed over - hopefully - to PCGS:
The few slide marks on the cheek seem inconsequential; I hope this doesn't keep it out of a PCGS holder.
The above coin will replace this PCGS VF 30
Which replaced this coin that I sold to UMAKEM ...
and this coin replaced a coin [ shown immediately below ] which I sold to the owner of the Redshoulder Collection which I was very fond of... however, I had my eyes on a bigger prize at the time:
The above coin now resides in a PCGS AU 55 holder.
Mike Hayes ~~~~~~~~~~~~ Coin collecting is not a hobby, it's an obsession !
Very nice 14-P Mike. I see no reason at all why that coin won't be sitting in a PCGS XF45 holder unless PCGS downgrades you for that darker cameo toning.
Here's my next Tru-View. This beauty use to reside in an ANACS AU50 holder and came from a trade with Brandon Johnson. Coin in hand looks a bit different from this image. If I find a nice circulated cameo, I may make the swap. Enjoy. Forgot to add-coin has the very typical New Orleans weak strike on the forehead and on the rightside of the shield on the reverse. You also have to love the lack of strike detail on the lower right claw and arrows. Imagine what this coin looked like stright from the mint? I'll wager it was a very mushy.
Can anyone tell me why I did this ? Look closely at the first coin... very closely...yes, I'm 100% positive that's its genuine...anything else catch you eye ?
Okay, I'll attach a larger image of the first coin:
Did that help ?
Mike Hayes ~~~~~~~~~~~~ Coin collecting is not a hobby, it's an obsession !
Jeez, over 6K...that's quite a bit of money...I thought it would bottom out around $3500...guess PCGS will have to realign their price guide again! With that price it looks like an XF-45 would probably go for ~$5500 or so.
I've been tracking it and it closed at $ 6,116.89 - and sold to a dealer - FairTraderz - who sells on eBay.
As a matter of fact, I've tracked each coin Ken has auctioned - and have won the one coin I had my sights on, his 1910-P in 58. I've got my eyes on three others as well.
Edited to add the two coins I won this evening on Heritage's Sunday auction:
