    Uh, your kidding, right? Don't give your girl friend a coin for Christmas man. Spend the money on a bauble. Necklace/bracelet/ring. Much better choices. Now if she happens to be a collector, that's a different story, but trust me - NO COINS FOR YOUR LADY.

    There are plenty of Gold coins set in bezels, rings and all sorts of jewelry that a Girlfriend would like !!

    Try it, My Girlfriend, now my wife of 9 years loves hers and wears it all the time .

    1912 Eagle it was AU when I bought it and had it set, but it was dated for the year her Dad was born.

    I gave my wife a $10 Liberty gold piece in a fancy antique gold bezel. She loves it and its one of her favorite pieces of jewelry.

    I gave a girl a BU buffalo nickel for her birthday as she once mentioned she collected nickels out of change as a kid. She loved it. She still wouldn't be my girlfriend though.

    well this girl i met a few months ago,

    who is from the phillipines,

    gave me a 1944 five centavos from her purse.

    During the war years, the Manila Mint was not operational, and no coins circulated in The Philippines. When the Americans retook these islands from Japan beginning in October, 1944, they carried with them new coinage of the USA/Philippines series. These were coined at the Philadelphia, San Francisco and Denver Mints (the latter bore a D mintmark). The minor pieces were of slightly different standards, a concession to the shortage of certain metals during the war years. These coins quickly replaced the Japanese “funny-money” scrip and Filipino/American guerrilla notes then in use, and they remained a legal tender for many years after the islands became the independent Republic of The Philippines, July 4, 1946.

    fc, so what will you give her?

    My wife is from the Philippines. We are probably going there this Christmas. I'm looking for a early 1900s Philippines proof set. I want one in about PR 63 that isn't so badly cleaned that the hairlines look like scratches. I also don't want to spend as much as I did on the last "baubles" I bought.

    She collects coins from the Philippines as well as US proof sets so I figure a PI proof set will be well apprciated.

    give her Father a coin ... make sure it's top quality ... as a token

    and something for the family (more for Mom than Dad)


    then give her a gold chain with a penant or something like that (not coin related)

    i think a coin in a key chain would be slick. but gold and US.
    I think someone mentioned a eagle.

    and for the others who think i am crazy, it will have to be

    I have a girlfriend - my wife of 26 years. This year she received two coins from me. Her dad, Jesse Rose, was a cop - I gave her the 1997P Officers Commem. and the 1997-P Botanical Commem (both are PCGS PR69 DCAM). She appreciates them both and has them displayed in her "place for favorite stuff" curved glass china closet.

    Bad idea to give your girlfriend any coin. Coin collecting is your hobby, not hers. I can't imagine a woman appreciating a coin gift.image

    If I give my girlfriend a coin for Christmas on Christmas morning, she'll try to sell it back to me by Christmas afternoon.

    If I refuse to buy it back and explain to her that it is a symbol of love, then chances are I'd be spending Christmas night patching up a wound on my forehead bearing the marks of a coin that was thrown at me and has hit its target.

    My wife Penny (a coin dealer married to a woman named Penny.....go figure!) considers my coins to be her retirement plan.

    I generally get her a nice piece of jewelry. as I have 2 friends who manage different jewlerly stores, this works out well for me.

    Ok, here's my suggestion. Instead of a coin, which she may not appreciate, look into getting some kind of silver bar/art bar or silver round with a design/theme that she would like. And, to make it even better, a lot of bars and rounds have blank space on them for engraving. Personalize it, make it special. Have a special message engraved on it. Whatever you choose, I hope she really likes it. image

    Gave my wife a 10th ounce platinum panda bullion coin in a necklace a few years ago. (She is a chemist
    and deals with platinum and palladium chemistry). She liked it.

    Also have given her Isle of Man crowns with different cats on them for Christmas. (She loves cat stuff)
    That was a double bonus because then she was interested in going to coin shows with me to look for
    more darkside cat coins!
