I would like to acquire a nice MS-63RB one day.
    Expensive, but still attractive.
  • Don't own one and not particularly interested in doing so.

  • Just sent this to great collections. So ex owner. However Im hunting for the ms65 red upgrade now.

I have one. One of my kids found it in change when he was in Junior High. He didn't know it was "special." It's fake. It's in my Dansco penny album. I'm o.k. with it.

I get a real kick out of these kill-joy collectors who bash coins like the 1909-S VDB because of its so-called availability.
I, myself should have bought one years ago when the price was low. Yes, it's more available than other coins, but the popularity of the series insures its status as a major key date well into the future.
As for you collectors out there who keep barking phrases like "always available" and "way overpriced", your "rare" Bust half or "25 known" Seated quarter sounds lovely, but for many of us, not all that interesting. There's a real snobbery within the collecting community. These self-proclaimed experts pretend that they are in this rarified world that only the very few can appreciate. It's a world of 19th century coins and pre-steem press afficionados. They might say to themselves, "these are the real treasures. Too bad the masses with their overrated 1909-s VDBs cannot appreciated true rarity. But, WE know better."
There's a lot of this going around.
Now be prepared for the numbers nerds to start quoting population reports and touting the ubiquitous "sleepers." When they do this, they are completely missing the point.
We collectors who happen to love dates like the 1909-s VDB Lincoln are not the least bit affected by these condescending remarks. Keep in mind, we can swiftly and justifiably dismiss whatever you collect as well.

I was pulled into a 16 year old thread, thinking that maybe Mr. Glicker was back (I know my attention to detail is not too good, should've noticed the grayed out icon), but yeah to answer the question, I do have one and will not be bidding on the one that's been recently posted.

WOW. I replied to this thread back in 2005.

No comment now about it. I feel the same.

I actually don't mind the zombie thread revival - as it involves the original topic. It's not spam if there is an actual coin post to go with it.

Don't miss m*********r or any of his various alts.

PCGS AU55 CAC here... and I'm very happy to have it.

I wanted one when I was a kid and the wanting never stopped. I don't give a rat's behind about mintage comparisons, certified population metrics. market availability, or especially what other people think others should collect. I also have zero interest in pattern coins. My common as dirt SVB is gladly a part of my "Box of 20".

    When in doubt, don't.

Spam, he says he sent it to GC at the bottom of the pics. Not cool.

That is fine, it is kind of interesting to see and remember the old and now gone members. However the thread title is who owns one, not who just sent one to auction please bid on it.

At the time this thread was posted I had not owned one yet. As of today I do own one. Cracked that baby out and stuffed it into a Dansco album.

I gave away the first one I owned, a vg brown, and sold the 2nd one I owned in my 2nd lincoln set(both sets started in the late 50's) along with the 14d and 31s. Will probably get another to fill the 2nd set.

As a kid learning about coins, this was always on my wish list. Forgot about coins once college and work life started. Eventually circled back to coins and bought 2 PCGS 64BNs and one PCGS XF45 that I cracked for the Dansco album. I also cracked a 14-D and 22 no D for the Dansco.

    Yes, PCGS MS65RB.

I have a fake (added mm) in a Whitman album. Was from my father and he probably bought in the 50's or 60's.

It's AU so I sent it in to be graded - boom, not genuine.

Wow... this IS an old thread! I've owned a couple. The first one, I purchased raw from my old B&M shop in Flagstaff AZ ~2005. I sent it to ANACS for certification... came back XF40. That's the coin that finished the collection I had started as a kid... but it was really anti-climactic when it happened. I held onto the completed set for several years before I sold it to fund other things. I bought another (AU50) years after, with the intention of repeating the set, but I sold that to fund other coins, and gold. I guess I just lost interest in the series. I might incorporate this issue as a slot in a "Box-o-20" if I ever get that far...

I never owned an 09-S VDB. I stopped collecting Lincolns 35 years ago after obtaining the 14-D, 09-S, and 31-S.

When I started collecting again in 2003, my developing far-sightedness pushed me toward collecting half dollars.

EF-40, bought it almost 40 years ago to finish a "boyhood collection." It came with ANACS papers, which said that it was only a VF-20.

I replied to the original post that I had bought one that very day. That one was low grade and unattractive and I ended up buying another one that is higher graded and a bit nicer looking. Here’s pictures of both
