The bug is correct...as a former collector of this set and submitter of hundreds of cards..probably close to a 1000 overall I'd say the 1984 set would still be a challenge for anyone to try and complete in PSA 10....not impossible but a challenge. My submissions included many of the cards that were hard to get 9's in let alone 10's...

Wonder if the 84D posters can help out here -
All my prior submissions came from wax boxes but
I just opened 2 factory sets and found several nicely centered cards including this Youngblood (see pic) it is centered 50/50 back as well.
But when comparing these to the wax box cards, I noticed they are considerably smaller (especially in the width) and this was consistent throughout both sets so I assume it's commonplace in factory sets.
Do any of you have experience submitting these? Does PSA grade them, or are they returned as not meeting min size?
    I'd appreciate anyone's input
    Thanks
  • Hammered,

The factory sets are a little smaller in the white border than the wax counterparts. This is normal. The Youngblood is nice.

I am very interested in buying that card. Send me a PM. I would be interested as raw or after graded.

Quite some time ago, PSA sent some of the factory cards back as "trimmed," but that is not that common any longer as more and more factory sets have been sent in.

I want that card BAD - I never find a good Youngblood
  • Hammered,

Here are two PSA 10's that I recently got back from a sub of factory set cards. As you can see, the border is smaller than the wax pack cards.

Both are POP 3 cards. Fitzgerald was a POP 1 until the past couple of moths.

Again, nice pull on that Youngblood!

    Hey folks,

I'm going to be listing my #2 Master set on eBay within the next few days. If anyone wants to make a 'market value' offer on any of the cards before I place them for sale, please send me an e-mail to ARNOLD@WaltDisneyBoards.com and we can discuss any potential offline deals.

You guys are kickin' butt on the set and I wish I could stay 'in the hunt' with you, but I've got lots of things going on in my life right now which won't allow me to focus on my card collection.

I'm also going to be selling off my 1972 Topps baseball set probably the week after in case anyone has an interest in that as well.

    Thanks,

    Arny

Arny selling his set has rendered Bug speechless!!!image

I was doing some experimenting last night with uploading a picture of my daughter to see if it would work for a new avatar. How I used to do it doesn't work any more. Hence the editing what seemed like 453 times.

I'm not clear if Arny's set is pending, or if it's just a few cards from it? Agreed however, sorry to see him get out off the 84D train, but you can always climb aboard again if the spirit moves you!

Remember when ebayer 'kkpkrk' was buying every 84D psa 10 joe carter under the sun a couple of years ago? It was to the point he was winning them all, and if he showed up, figure $400 or more.

Just noticed he has one on ebay now with 2+ days to go @ $7 and change. I checked his recent sales and he sold one for $207. How times change.

The new sheriff in town better get a grip on his slabs. Without seeing his collection, I'd bet he's not even close to nailing the tougher ones. Besides you and eventually RVC will hit all-10's anyway.

Maybe he can be a deputy instead.

  • LOL, nice one Bug. Yeah, I really hate it when they talk trash and then don't even allow their set to be viewed.

    Hey 84 Donruss brothers!

Yes, unfortunately times are tough and I had to sell my baby image

The complete Master/Basic set was sold. I got a very nice return on my investment, but I can't discuss any details as the transaction was asked to be kept private.

I still have my "Extras" set and I'll make a full list of what I have available (probably about 100-150 cards) in case anyone needs any holes plugged on the set.

I will never say that I won't be back, but due to my financial situation right now I can't spend much on my hobby. image

I wish good luck to all of you that are still in it and plugging away! I hope you all end with all 10s soon! image

I'll pop in from time to time to see how things are going. Talk to you all later!

Whew! Spent some vacation time opening 2 wax boxes and 3 factory sets today that I had stashed away, as I'm putting together a sub for the Jan special. One wax box was trash, with rough cuts on almost every card. The other wax box was so-so (a likely PSA 10 Ripken and a few possible low-pops). These factory sets were better than those in the past that I've opened. It seems to be hit or miss with me on these. Some I've opened in the past had horrible reverse centering. Two that I opened today had really good centering and I was able to pull some low pops with really good potential (including a Hume). Altogether I have about 200 going in and from experience I can expect about 30-40% to get 10s. My fingers are crossed. I'll let you know how they turn out. And if anyone is interested, I have a stack of about 1500 commons for sale image
  • What is up with the 84 factory set prices? The last couple of auctions have more than doubled in price than those in recent months.

Link to recent auction with 24 bids. $137.50
  • Another one ending tomorrow!

    Link to Auction ending 1/5/2008
  • Yeah, they have really been going up. The interest in grading this set lately has been incredible.

  • Does anyone have any of the below cards in PSA 10 to sell or trade?

    109 Neil Allen
    121 Dave Concepcion
    164 Frank Pastore

  • WOW!!!!!!! Upsala finally has someone who can outbid him, and man is it crazy. The seller on ebay must have hit the ceiling when he saw the results of his auctions. I thought it was absolutely crazy for a pop 1 to go for $1325.00 until I saw the pop 2 that went for $1725.00!!!!! There were six cards alone from pop 5 to 1 that totalled nearly $5000.00. Never thought I'd see the day.
