    AU grades are my grades of choice. I'd rather have a coin that's been in someone's pocket than a coin that has laid around in a bag for 100 years.

    That's a really nice original coin. I'm surprised that it is only in an AU-50 holder. Most AU graded Reduced Size Quarters don't look any where near as nice as that. image
    Retired dealer and avid collector of U.S. type coins, 19th century presidential campaign medalets and selected medals. In recent years I have been working on a set of British coins - at least one coin from each king or queen who issued pieces that are collectible. I am also collecting at least one coin for each Roman emperor from Julius Caesar to ... ?

    Yeah, that does look awfully nice for a 50!! There are probably some "AU-62's" that look like that!!

    Nope. In all honesty, it has the expected loss of luster for the grade. It was just so superior to all OTHER AU small busts that I snapped it.

    There is a lot of luster in protected areas like that hair. Lighting has a lot to do with it, but it is nice for the originality and strike.

    And I do like it better than almost all I have seen from 58-62 if only for the dark and dirty original grime. And that album TARNISH turns me on, too.

    I guess so! The large size cappeds do not exist in grades above AG.

    Got a decent XF ....draped....though.

    If the luster were stronger this one certainly would have gone at least AU55. Nice coin.image

    The luster's weird. Upside down, the luster POPS at you. Right side up, it's more the strike that impressed me.
