And then when all of you guys fill those tough holes, I'll pick up the six 9s I need for pocket change!

    image

I'm ignoring that Todd with an opening bid of $100, for example.

    Anyone have a 78 Schmidt and/or Carlton PSA 10?

I would like to upgrade my Schmidt/Carlton Basic Set

I know I know. Heck, I've been waiting for over six years for the six I need. So, when you guys finally snap them up and finish your sets, there'll just be a bunch of new collectors trying to fill the same slots.

I may have to resort to the same tactic I used to complete my 1967 set: buy some raw and submit them myself!

But you're right, czar...the dealers really prop up the prices on these low pops! As I said: the latest ebay case in point is the Jackson Todd for a $100 open!

  • Nick,
I'm sending in a #597 Dillard for grading soon. If I don't get a 10, it should get a 9, and I'll send it to you for your set. If I get the 10, I'll send you my current 9. Also, I've got a #690 Rivers and a #347 Forster that "may" grade 9's. If you want, I'll send them in to see if I can get 9's for you. Just let me know.

    Hey, Hatch!

Man...I've been asleep at the wheel on my set. I actually do have cards 630 - 642 - 690 in PSA 9. I picked them up over the fall/winter, but forgot to add them! I'm slotting them in today.

    The five that I still am searching for are: 165 - 347 - 481 - 538 - 597

So...SURE! I'd love the Dillard, whenever you get the card back.

    Thanks a million, Hatch!

    Hello all,

I just wanted to let you guys have first shot at the last of the 78's I have left. I toyed with the idea of trying to put it together again so I held onto a couple of the cards.
This is what I have left.

Prices include S+H with delivery conformation

    PSA 10's

    171 Pat Zachary $20.00
    303 Sam Hinds $20.00
    317 Dave Johnson $20.00
    543 Larry Harlow $20.00

562 Glen Burke pop-2 If interested please make an offer

    Others PSA 9's

Make an offer on any of these if you would like them:

    53 Phil Garner
    55 Mitchell Page
    140 Rollie Fingers
    192 Padres Team
    492 Jim Sundberg
    575 Pat Dobson
    579 Rance Mulliniks
    619 Thad Basley
    709 Rookie Pitchers

Thanks for looking...It's nice to see people still active in this set It is one of my favorites.

What does not sell will either make it to eBay or be cracked out for my raw set. (I will turn in the cert #'s to keep the pop somewhat good)

    Take Care,

    George

Knowing Hatch, I wouldn't be surprised if they were his duplicates!

  • If interested, I have the following cards (except Reggie) available to trade. If you are interested in one or all, let me know. I am interested in PSA 7/8 (centered) cards of HOF from the 1970s.

I subbed a 1978 Johnnie LeMaster (in the group sub).

You never know what PSA will do with one Topps 1978 (out of a 1500 card sub!).

Here's a look at the card!

The way PSA is grading nowadays, your Lemaster will come back either EVIDTRIM or MINSIZERQ or MISCUT or maybe even RECOLORED

    What could be worse?

    All of the above! image

  • Bill and Nick,
The all-10 set isn't me. I like the sound of it, though.

On the other topic, are you guys also seeing an increase in the number of disqualifications lately (EVIDTRIM, MINSIZERQ, MISCUT)? I thought they were picking on me, so it would be good to know if it's a recent trend. Surprisingly, several disqualified cards they sent back were formerly in PSA 9 holders, and after a subsequent submission, a portion of the disqualified cards made it back into holders (one grading 10)....kind of frustrating, but like umpires, graders have their own strike zones.

  • I was looking through my 78s Topps cards and noticed a couple of members of the Texas Rangers were wearing black armbands with the No. 4 on their sleeve in the pictures. I found out that they wore this in honor of Danny Thompson, who died of leukemia in Dec. 1976 after playing only half a season with the Rangers (many more for the Twins earlier). Also didn't know that Harmon Killebrew started a golf tourney in Danny's honor. Interesting story. But... I also noticed that a number of Brewers in the 78 set are also wearing armbands. Any idea why?

    Maybe for Elvis?

Most likely for Danny Frisella who died on 1-1-77.

9 cards to go and I will be done with this set.

Anyone interested in selling their 1978 Topps #540 Steve Carlton PSA 10?? ...Schmidt?

I promise they would go to a good caring home.
  • There is some fierce competition going on for 1978 PSA 10's currently. On e-bay today I won about 2 of 15 cards I was bidding on. Many cards were won by an individual with only 126 feedbacks. I don't believe Hatch was in on the bidding. Perhaps it is the "Pristine" set now occupying the mid 20's on the registry. It looks like it will be tough sledding to finish my 9/10 set.

I know who the new member of your registry is. I have sold him many of those 10s. I have many 1978 9s and 10s in my ebay store. I am willing to entertain reasonable offers for single cards or lots. I have been helping several other members of this board with a lot of the low pop 9s so feel free to PM, email me or make a purchase or offer on ebay if I have anything you would like.

  • Seminolelaw -- I just sent you an email that may help you fill some gaps. On another subject, does anybody know where one of those Eddie Murray #36 PSA 10's are hiding? I'd be willing to trade my best looking cousin for it (and she's cute). I'd probably pay quite a bit, too. I can't even track one down, let alone make an offer for it....any help locating one would be appreciated. Regards, Hatch

    Joel,

How did you make out selling your set? I missed it unfortunately due to a huge break I have been taking from the hobby to raise very young children. I am interested to see how you made out. Do you have a breakdown?

    Thanks
