Note that Adam J. Moraine did not win this auction. He did not even bid, and the auction's reserve was not met at $15,655.00. I wonder why Adam did not bid? I guess he did not sell off his 8000 shares of GIGA before Tuesday's close of $7.93.

5:32pm Tuesday 07/26/05 Giga-tronics Inc. quarterly profit tumbles 35% (GIGA) By Carla Mozee

SAN FRANCISCO (Market-Watch) -- Giga-tronics Inc. (GIGA) after Tuesday's closing bell reported fiscal first-quarter net earnings of $233,000, or 5 cents a share, down 35% from $357,000, or 8 cents a share, a year ago. Earnings from continuing operations were $227,000, or 5 cents a share. Revenue was $5.8 million vs. $5.7 million last year, said the San Ramon, Calif.-based electronic devices company.

GIGA closed at $5.60 on Wednesday -- a drop of 29.38%.

That translates to a $18,640 loss for Adam J. Moraine aka "The Pride of Des Moine".

It also translates to the loss of a 1951 Bowman Mantle Rookie Card in PSA 8.

The 1951 Bowman Mantle PSA 8 auction has been relisted with a BIN of $18,499.00

Adam, it's ok. Don't feel bad. Even without the PSA 8 Mantle RC, you still have "The Finest Collection in Iowa". And you are still my hero.

Its about someone else he calls "Adam Moraine"...I have no idea. Also have no idea why he's still talking about this image.

  • Maybe Grandma kicked Adam out of the house and he had to find an apartment.

Adam J. Moraine, recordholder for the longest bash thread on network54.
  • This all relates to some posts made on the "What's the next card you're going to buy thread?" on which "TimeMachine" who I guess kuntryboy is calling "Adam J. Moraine" made some comments about his personal finance exploits in terms of buying "GIGA" stock and making a boatload of money. Needless to say he and kuntryboy got into quite the pissing match....

I remember TimeMachine was talking about how he made a bunch of money with GIGA, but I hope no one else on this forum got burned. It was up close to $8 and now look at it.

I don't get the point, either. A board member made big plans for his GIGA profits, then lost $18,640 by not selling fast enough. Are we supposed to be laughing at him? Count me out.
  • wufdudewufdude Posts: 356
^ I believe it was the tone of his posts that left a sour taste in some folks' mouths.
  • If Timemachine is Adam J Moraine, then Timemachine deserves anything he gets. Adam is just a 24 year old punk from Des Moines, IA who lives with his grandma and invests in low to mid range cards and autographs. He has dreams of selling his collection and buying a house in the richest community in CT.

He regularly rips on people on the network 54 board with his dumb comments and believes he has this far superior collection compared to everyone else because someone in the local paper did a small story on him.

I don't blame kuntryboy one bit. Look at the previous thread this one references and you will see who the true jackass really is.
  • jrdolanjrdolan Posts: 2,549 ✭✭
I don't care how big a jackass he is. If I kick someone when he's down, that makes me into the jackass. But to each his own....
  • Actually i remember that name (Adam) from the net 54 boards. I believe he made some comments about women being money hungry along with some very tastless coments regarding marrige in general even though he has never been married. Eventhough i don't agree with kountry's post about being happy Adam lost $'s. I must agree that the young man regularly puts his foot in his mouth and gets stomped for it. But hey, even a$$'s can collect cards.image

I can't agree more, however truth be told, I did take a look at his GIGA play, I didnt purchase a ton of the stock as it was a pure earnings play, the daytraders were running the stock in advance of the earnings report, and anybody that knows anything about the market, buy the rumor, sell the news.

so, not to be too risky I purchased the stock for 6.35 a share (only 300 shares) sold the next day at 7.67 for agreater than a 20% return. There was no way I was trading into the news.
Now believe me, I have lost my share as well, and by no means was this a great hit, however, anytime you make 20% return in 1 day (24 hour span) you better get out.

So, being on the other end (wrong side) many times, I would never laugh in the face or kick when someone is down.

Heres a true story straight from the trading pits in Chicago:

A bond trader who was not liked by other traders becuse he often wouldn't let them out of a wrong trade without squeezing every last penny when they were on the other side, lost a fortune on a huge arbitriage trade. He lost his seat, and was forced into bankruptcy, During the auction of his personal assets to make the outstanding balance of the margin call, the other traders (including the ones whom he hurt in the past) bought all of his items, signed them over to him, gave him start up capital to get back on the floor.

In an interview for stocks and commodities magazine, One of the traders was asked why in the heck would they help someone like that out, his response, "because just like a family has good brothers and sisters and not so nice ones as well, we are all family down here, and it could be me one day, so we all stand united together to make sure nobody gets hurt in our family".

so no matter how bad, good, or in different this person maybe, just chalk it up to maturity and move on, its easier to shake ones head and walk away vs. stoping reaching out with a helping hand.

Adam started his downward spiral in the 54 board by stating he thought anyone who collected PSA 1-2-3's where idiots and these cards were far below his standards. Of couse he had no real knowledge of vintage material and stuck his foot in his mouth big time. As the posts drew on he inserted it farther and farther. He didnt realize his Iowa autograph collection didnt amount to squat compared to some of the collections on the board, and his bragging sounded like that of Mr Timemachine. Turns out Adam is begging every board memeber to find him a Cobb PSA 3 and as to date I'm sure no one has complied. Out

The moral of the story IS DO NOT make the mistake of getting hitched. IF you do, SIGN A PRENUP. you keep what YOU came into the marriage with (your cards and memorabilia collection) and SHE keeps what she came into the marriage with (her cosmo. magazine collection). Geez guys! I am glad I KNOW what to do, IF I were to get hitched, which I have NO DESIRE to do, anyway. So my collection IS safe and sound from money hungry, grubby paws.

In the thread 'what card are you going to buy next' the poster 'timemachine' was going on and on about how he was making so much money on that GIGA stock, and how it was going to get to $15, and how much money he was going to get, and all this. I assume kuntryboy thinks/knows that timemachine=adam moraine from those other threads.

When the stock was climbing, timemachine was talking/bragging about how he's 'made' X amount of dollars, even though he hadn't sold the stock yet.

The stock falls, some people call him out saying he's 'lost' X amount of dollars, to which time machine counters that he is still way ahead of what he bought it at.

There are some derisions when he is called out for saying he's made money (when he hasn't sold the stock yet) but he doesn't feel he hasn't lost money because it's still above what he's paid for it. There are speculations that timemachine posted it to try to get more people to buy it, driving the price on the stock higher.

    Hope that clears things up.
  • Ahem (clears throat)... with all due respect axtell, I did indeed sell 6000 of my 8000 $4.04 shares at the frothy level of 8.25 about 30 minutes or so before the close on tuesday. I unloaded the last 2000 after hours before the CC started, after seeing the writing on the wall, at 7.10 and anyone who bought hopefully had the sense to do the same, zef for one...well, I cleared roughly 32K, a huge win for me, thankfully I have the resources to make such trades due to a death in the family and a successful spec play on Sirius shares under a buck. Nobody put a gun to anyone's head here to buy, I did not claim to be an insider, and I do not hold anyones' hand. What I did was basically give a 2 point (35%-40%) gain to anyone that DECIDED to purchase some in the mid 6's, and only defended myself after kuntrygirl claimed to know my identity (he does not) and attempted in his own way to rain on my parade. It was only after kuntrytot relished in a temporary paper loss that I decided to give him an education, hoping his ridiculous posts about some clown apparently named Adam Moraine would eventually cease. I suppose nobody likes a crowing rooster, especially not a jealous fool like kuntry, but I thought it might be fun to let you in on what I actually do all day, and how I do it. It ain't for everyone, and I'll be the first to admit that I have my thumb more firmly on the pulse of the financial markets in comparison to the graded card market. My attraction to the more sought after, high-grade vintage issues has been stated before, I view them not only as entombed wonders and works of art, but also as stocks that never split, rising with demand and inflation.

Those are the facts, and while I may have acted a bit too proud for some here (except maybe the dude who used to trade in the pits at the CBOEimage), but nonetheless, I now own a 1966 Phila. PSA 9 Sayers RC that should arrive tomorrow. I too hope nobody got burned, but I will trade GIGA again to be sure, and I will profit again to be quite sure.

Sorry if I ruffled anyone's feathers, I Hope this clears things up...

This may be a dumb question? Do you mean that you sold these people stock? If so, where did you make the offer?

What does a 2 pt. gain mean? Do you mean that if the stock was selling for 6 bucks, you gave it to them for 4 bucks?

    mike
    Mike
  • No stone, quite simply, I notified anyone who cared to listen of the opportunity, that GIGA's upward move had begun in earnest, in the mid 6's... if you waited a day to do your own due diligence and THEN buy at prices in the lower $6's, you were given the opportunity on tuesday to sell as high as $8.45, more than a 2 point gain.

Very simple, and profitable. I take it you do not trade stocks heh heh...
