I'm with you there. I've been looking to pick up some (playing years) Cobb's myself. He's one of those players that I dreamed of owning as a kid. It's never too late to make childhood dreams come true.
It's been a while for me, but I'm finished with school for right now and have been spending some time on ebay.
In addition to the '55 I also just purchased the '54 Red Man Spahn in a PSA 3.5 and that should be coming in shortly. That means I now have a Spahn from each Red Man set ('52-'55). The '52 is autographed and slabbed, but not graded and it's missing the Tab. It's definitely one of my favorite cards I own though.
Arrived this morning. Finally landed a Red Cobby. Been wanting one for a long time but either struck out or just could not find one that satisfied me eye appeal wise. The big full borders, centering and focus sealed the deal for me. A little more than I would have liked to have paid but that's par for the course. Not the fist time I have overpaid for a card. And probably not the last. There has to be other new pick ups to share. Let's see some more cards!
My quest for hand held dexterity games is a tough one - not too many show up on ebay - I just picked up this one - it's made in Canada and I've never seen it before.
Play Baseball - Reliable - made in Canada.
I have very little info on the game. The Reliable company did make a hockey game - but that's all I know.
Does anyone collect these kind of games?
I've shown them before - here's a favorite of mine:
<< <i>My new additions - from the latest REA auction. I've cropped out the slab until I cross them both over to the home team.
1911 M116 Sporting Life - Honus Wagner (Blue background)
1911 M116 Sporting Life - Ty Cobb (Blue background)
Thanks you, as always - for letting me share. >>
Are not those two like the most famous and valuable cards in history ? I think you just blew away anything I've seen posted here. Very much congrats on those. simply WOW. I still don't have down the m116 t206 T11's or whatever, and have not been able to find anyone who knew what the actual designations mean, but whatever you have there is the elite stuff. I could only wish to own one of those.
On this day, April 13th - 1962, Life Magazine produced an issue with some cool cards.
Also, Stan Musial scores his 1,869th run, a new NL record.
The number one song was Johnny Angel - by Shelley Fabares.
The cards are in really nice shape - and I like them entombed in the periodical rather than getting them out and taking them to the chop-shop.
I do want to add - at this time my brother-in-law was in a group with his high school friends called The Holidaes - which included Frankie Pellegrino who was the lead FBI agent in the Sopranos. They cut a song called Never:
Also - I was in a group called the Rondells and my main crush was Tina Wade - our band played in a beach club in Atlantic Beach - El Patio - the headliner was the Duprees - they didn't bring their own drummer - so I had the dubious distinction of "backing" them up - one of the dudes said to me - "just keep up with us and watch me for the cuts..."
Thanks ... it's a small 14 card set .... 2 cards are going to be killer crazy to locate (SPs) but I have 3 more on the way -- one of them Pat Riley ... I'm a life long Laker fan and his card in the set is what brought me to it.
Looking for a Glen Rice Inkredible and Alex Rodriguez cards
Back in February, I posted a topic about harpooning my white whale, a 1954 Dan Dee Mickey Mantle. Another one showed up on eBay last week (same grade, almost as nice), and, of course, I just had to place a bid to protect the initial price I paid for this card back in February! Yes, sometimes this hobby makes us do crazy things....

Thank you for the kind words! Unfortunately for me - the cards I bought aren't the cards I think you're mistaking them for. I believe you're referring to the t206 Wagner & Cobb. The two I bought are from the same era, but different sets. The Wags I bought goes for a fraction of what the t206 Wagner goes for. But regardless - I'm happy to own them.
I've been waiting for this one for some time! It's about as campy as a movie can get - definitely one that a 50s collector of Sci-Fi wants in their collection.
ATTACK of the 50Ft WOMAN - 1958
Starring Allison Hayes, William Hudson, Yvette Vickers.
Storyline: Nancy Archer is a rich socialite who is unhappily married to husband Harry who left her once but came back to her when he needed money. It hasn't stopped him from continuing his affair with Honey Parker and Nancy knows it. After a confrontation at a local bar, Nancy takes off in her car and has an encounter with a large sphere on the road. There have been rumors of UFOs in the area but no one will believe her. After a second encounter, Nancy grows to an amazing size. More than enough to get her revenge.
And - the LC - in 'good' condition - has a slight crease on the upper left - but if the card was in really pristine shape? It could go for a couple of hundred bucks.
Whirly Bird Play Catch Game - Innovation Industries, Inc. - Chicago, Ill. - c1950s
Endorsed byWarren Spahn.
<< <i>Warren Spahn
Milwaukee Braves Wold Famous Southpaw Enjoys Playing Whirly Bird >>
This is not a baseball game - obviously - but I liked the fact that it was endorsed by Spahn.
I looked up the patents which place the original game in the around 1956. However, the first editions of the game were not endorsed by the southpaw. So, I wouldn't be surprised if this edition may have come out in the later 50s - closer to where the Braves played the Yanks in the world series?
The suction cup - which has a separate patent is totally dry rotted - the game doesn't look like it was played all that much.
Still - a nice addition to my "player endorsed" collection of games.

Red was born and lived in the same town as me, he is buried right behind my current house.
He pitched on the same field that I played on as teen and his home was up the street from where
I grew up. He at the time of his death was 107, making him the oldest person to have ever played in MLB.
Another local resident was Everett 'Eppie' Barnes, who played with the Pirates and later was the AD at Colgate.
His boyhood home was up the street from where I now live.
Here's a new one for today:

A pleasure to view.
I have to say - Dan's cards are off the chart! Impressive.
Thanx for sharing.
This page is buried and ya have to add +1 to the last digit to get it to come up while not logged in.
So - anyways - halo posted this card and it's absolutely sweet!
Thanx for sharing.
And the E103 is fantastic!
"Live everyday, don't throw it away"
I agree - and it's a great set and a very nice card!
And Halos - more killer pickups! Congrats.

1970 Ezra Brooks Indy Car #10.
I arbitrarily assigned the car in the race to 1970 - which is Art Pollard - who started 6th and finished 30th. Unfortunately he died at the age of 46.
I think this one is kind of cool looking.

I would give anything if we had footage from back then - oh well. Thanks CU and I hope I passed the audition!

Also - I've never seen those Jack in the Box cards either - I like'm! Is it strictly Rockets (local)?

WTB: PSA 1 - PSA 3 Centered, High Eye Appeal 1950's Mantle
The other cards on this page have fantastic eye appeal especially the Mantle.
Here's my latest, the Williams auto I've wanted for a while:
Superb Bart card - always wanted that card.
Very nice Williams card - I remember my son ripping loads of UD - hoping to pull one. Saw a really bad "fake" on ebay a while back.
Thanx for sharing guys!
<< <i>Saw a really bad "fake" on ebay a while back. >>
...and incredibly it generated 13 bids and sold for $300!!
