Do you collect only PCGS / or is it a mix with other grading companies

I'm currently about 60% PCGS and 20% NGC with the rest in raw coins. I'm trying to decide if I should consolidate everything to one company or just leave it alone. PCGS and NGC are both considered leaders in the grading field, (and I've been hearing good things about ANACS).
Just curious if there are any advantages to consolidating or disadvantages.
NGC and ANACS both have lower submission fees but, I notice that ANACS doesnt have a high resale value.

Frankly, I don't care whose slab the coin is in. If I like it and it's right for the money, I'll buy it. I probably have about 50-50 between PCGS and NGC, although I might be a tad heavier with NGC. I have a few ICG, a couple PCI, and a couple ANACS.

I collect coins but for stuff I collect, it's generally a must to have it entombed in one of those 3's holders.
  • For me personally I have almost exclusively PCGS coins....a few nicew morgans in NGC, but otherwise all PCGS

Was this by design, meaning did you intentionally mostly collect PCGS coins, or did you pick the coins you wanted and they just happened to come in a PCGS holder?

I am trying to collect all companies, just can't afford them all.

I guess I'll settle for some of their plastic.

mostly by chance...most of the coins I have had interest in are in pcgs holders.....for a few of my sets I am working on I buy pcgs all things equal because I like the look of the holder.....

In my type set I have about 50% ANACS, about 40% PCGS, and about 10% NGC.

I like the look of the PCGS slab better, but I tend to have more NGC coins for some reason.

I only buy PCGS, NGC, and ANACS graded coins. They're the only 3 grading companies that I feel confident in. Their grade is true to the coin.

Do you collect only PCGS ?

No, I have a mix of PCGS, NGC, & ANACS for my MS Morgans. My intentions were to have all my uncirculated Morgans in PCGS, but things have changed due to the change in membership fees. I can enjoy the coin regardless what holder it's in, even 2x2's. image

I actually prefer buying ANACS slabs, at least on coins less than $500, because they usually sell for a lower price then PCGS or NGC

    My collection:
    45% NGC
    28% PCGS
    27% ANACS
Since PCGS does not list varieties I have not submitted much to them over the years.

I see no reason to consolidate a collection into only one company's holder unless it is required for the Registry.
I collect Capped Bust series by variety in PCGS AU/MS grades.

Use that to your advantage! ANACS doesn't have quite as high of a resale value, but they cost correspondingly less is a better way to look at it. Same with ICG. If you're confident in your grading skills, don't be afraid of ANACS and ICG. Lots of really nice, lonely coins in their plastic. As for sticking with one service, purely up to you.

If it helps, all mine are in the same holder...Dansco image

Buying wise..almost always anacs, though I go where the decent coins are. I trust my grading enough to not have to rely on a company. I do find myself buying more and more ANACs though...many pieces are undervalued...and very strictly graded.

I have bought coins in many different holders, ACG, Hallmark, PCI, NNC, ANACS, PCGS, NGC, etc... IMHO the only reason to have all PCGS is for registry or to sell.

Out of about 100 slabs I have 1 NGC and the rest are PCGS. The only reason I have a NGC slab is because it's one of Mad Marty's weenie coins he was giving away.

I'm a PCGS and NGC guy. Either service works for me if THE COIN works for me.

I've got some ANACS coins, but I don't go out of my way to buy them or get coins slabbed in their holder.

only pcgs. from what i can tell, it is better to just buy it in the darn
slab, then to crossover, buy raw, or etc...

in time, this pattern will most likely break due to I wanting rarer coins.

I'm basicly 50/50 PCGS and NGC. However, I do have a few other TPG's and a few raw.

  • 60% NGC, 30% PCGS, 10% others...

I was thinking about crossing the 10% but I'm not sure of that now...

I have a lot of raw stuff, but the certified is about 70% PCGS, 20% NGC and 10% "the others."

My main set is 100% PCGS.

Extras or toners are a mix of PCGS, NGC, a few ICG, a couple of older PCI and ANACS

Before set review I was 90% PCGS, 10% NGC. I think this is a good ratio - I only buy NGC when the coin is outstanding or it's got a long history of being one of the finest known.

After set review, more like 98% PCGS, 2% NGC.
  • About 10% PCGS, 10% NGC, 60% ANACS and 20% raw. I had all my raw Morgans done by ANACS during one of their specials.
    Curmudgeon in waiting!
