Incredible set. The 92 Columbian has great color. I love the San Diego too. Heck, I like'em all. image

So, for all you history buffs, a question. Did the commems ever make circulation like our state quarters program or were they strictly a collectors issue? I guess the real question is, could one have completed a set from circulation?
  • Thanks for posting and great photography!

No, that would have been extremely unlikely. Certain of the series commems, like the 1939 Oregons and 1938 Boones were minted in extremely low numbers (3000 and 2100 respectively) basically, just to milk collectors who were stuck trying to complete the series.

Coins like these never were in circulation--they just went to collectors.

Coins like the Columbian, Stone Mountain, Booker T's, Carvers--those actually did circulate. More so in some regions of the country than others.

---Airplanenut. Nice job with the images, and my congratulations to the Cali Collection.

    Jeremy,

The enlarged slide show I went through twice, with lots of stops the second time around.

What a nice way to get some free advertising for your business.image

The coins you pictured so beautifully make me want to grab my coin collection and gaze at what I have.

Thank you all, I really appreciate all your nice comments about the set. I am very lucky to have had help from some super dealers putting this set together over the past 7 years...Evan Gale, Scott Schecter, Laura, Larry Shepherd, and Mike Printz.

Jeremy did a wonderful job bringing out the character and true color of these coins.

  • Super collection!!

    This one is particularly spectacular:

Question: Does this toning usually come from the original packaging, or other sources (i.e. Wayte Raymond Albums)?

    Hi commemDude,

This is without question one of the nicest coins period that I have laid eyes on. I'm partial to Antietams of the early commem's and I can't imagine one with more superlative eye appeal. In a word... WOW!!! dizzyfoxx

I'm working on those images now... we've got an MS 1795 flowing hair half dime, busties of all denominations, an AU55 flowing hair 1795 dollar, a seated dollar, a gobrecht dollar, and lots more. There are also a good number of toned classic commems in NGC holders--obviously, they weren't shot with this group, which consists only of his registry set coins. There are a few PCGS classics, as well... and a matching tab-toned set of Oregons image
