Tuesday Feb 15th. 4:28 pm EST.

Just returned home with 3 hobby boxes. $65 each (including tax..out the door).

A couple of notes first before I list the breaks:

1.) I thought there were going to be box toppers....guess not. I thought I read there were going to be pennants.

2.) There are no gray/white back variations...all the cards are gray backs

3.) You can definitely notice when you get a pack with a checklist (thicker card..dummy for a GU) or a Game Used card itself. Just keep that in mind if you are buying from boxes already opened. If you are going for SPs then it really doesn't matter as the probability is greater in those non-game used or checklist packs of landing a SP or regular Insert.

4.) The Team cards were always the last card in the pack.

5.) The SP, Chrome, GU, etc. were always the 2nd to last card in the pack.

Well, I ripped my case of hobby today. Very disappointed there were no boxtoppers, even more disappointed I didn't get an auto in my entire case. Yes, it was a sealed case. I managed to get all but 11 cards of the master set. Very happy about that (the collation that is) no doubles on my high numbers at all, got 1 black refractor, 6 regular refractors and 25 chromes. 4 "game" used (3 seats (Kaline, Musial, Banks) and a bat (Miguel Cabrera))

The no auto and no pennants really just ruined the whole experience for me today... I paid $130 extra for a hobby case (Plus I have another coming tomorrow and 1 case of retail that should be in next week (thanks alot blowout)).

Overall, awesome looking cards, the SP lists I've seen so far have failed to include card #6 Jason Bay ( appears the "P" pirates hat is the SP variation as I only got 1 of those, and several of the Pirate head logo hat). Also, the Ichiro seems to be the kneeling with bat as the sp, not the action one I've seen listed. I have 5 of those and only one of him kneeling with the bat. So either I got really lucky or the list I saw earlier was wrong. I haven't been following this thread so i have to go through it, I apologize if this was discussed already.

At any rate, I have a few inserts that were dupes (will have more tomorrow) and I have enough commons to make at least 2 more full base sets and would only be handful of cards away from a 3rd and 4th. I'm not trading/selling my chromes yet.

Feel free to email me your wantlist of singles, I'll have 3000+ of them by the end of day tomorrow.

    Hey Josh
Thanx for the post! Sorry to hear you didn't pull an auto - that's been the story of my life with Heritage!
I think I pulled one auto all last year - Cliff Floyd - the guy haunts me - got the Black chrome also but if memory serves, I sent to Chris Kuhlmann.

Good luck on you other rips...I'll bet you pull a 1/1!

Hey bud, I haven't posted in a while, been very busy. At least, that's my story and I'm sticking to it. image

I was disappointed, I made a post on the "Topps Lied..." thread as well. I'm disappointed that I paid an extra $130 for a case that gave no additional return and that Topps pulled things, changed odds etc at the very last minute. Should've stuck to retail...aw well. I have another case worth to open today.

Got my case today (many thanks to Chris Kuhlman) and tried to hold out but had to open a box.
The cards look great! I have the '56 set and my concern is that this would look like a cheap knockoff, but I'm happy to report that isn't the case.
I'll post more info tonite on what I got (once I figure out what those shiny things are mixed in with the real cards) but I do know there are 2 checklists, some then and now type cards, a GU Bat card of Red Schoendienst, and a few other special cards. No autos, no black refractors, whatever those are.
I did note that unlike the '56's there doesn't seem to be any variation on the low numbered team cards. The real ones have either name centered, name left, or dated (eg 1955 Reds). The ones I've seen are all centered.
There also seems to be no duplicate cards in the box I opened, which is great.
More news tonite, but I'll save some for Saturday or whenever we have a packfest.

Always looking for Topps Salesman Samples, pre '51 unopened packs, E90-2, E91a, N690 Kalamazoo Bats, and T204 Square Frame Ramly's

  • I'm looking to buy refractors out of 556.would prefer lots from people that have opened multiple cases.I build this set every year and I am doing so this year.LMK what ya got. Thanks Dale.

Sorry, but I think that card could have been a little more visually appealing.

nice card but ouch, they cut off the bottom of the type, how hard is it to make a 1/1 card fit the cut sig?

the good news is, Ike is still out there!

I gotta say, I'm not lovin the style of the card or the way they cropped the sig but heck, I'ld take it!

    image

It will probably reach in the 12-1500 range? However the final price comes out...truth be it, that the price will probably be more than a cut is worth IMO.

  • Not bad.

It's always very interesting to see what brand new cards go for on the market with no data or price guides. I thought the Arod bat card might go for more, but at least the somewhat commons are selling for a decent amount each.
  • You talk about a guy who lived an incredible life, that's Eddie Rickenbacker. Drove in the Indy 500 and eventually owned the whole dang place. Got shot down in the Pacific during WWII and lived in a raft for 3 or 4 weeks before rescue. It goes on and on. That's back in the days of the giants.

Those were from 3 boxes that I have $195 into ($65 per box). I have another Barry ending tomorrow...and its at $5 right now...so thats $84.

I still have all of my base cards, inserts, and SHORT PRINTS. (I got 2 Barrys...so I dont think they are short printed...and I did not list it as an SP in the auction....people just want the card I guess.

So lets say before fees...I got $85 out of $195 back...out of 15 auctions...with no black parallels or autos pulled.

  • Hello all, a new poster here. I too am a Topps Heritage junkie. I've bought multiple boxes of every year that the product has been available. My best card to date is a Yogi Berra auto from 2004. I also have the Willie Mays army uniform swatch card from 2001.

I'm waiting on the retail to hit the stores as I've had much better luck with it in the past. I've also started a blog dedicated to Topps Heritage Baseball. Feel free to give it a look and leave a comment.
    Link to the blog

I look forward to gaining a lot of knowledge from this board.

  • Mike, thanks for the welcome. I probably busted about ten of the blister boxes myself. I just couldn't stay away from them. Teh Berra auto made it worth my while.

I wonder why they call them "blister boxes". Of course I've probably blistered a finger or two opening all those boxes over the past five years. image

Here is the real list. This is consistent with what I found over my 15 boxes as well.

Topps Heritage Baseball, which arrived in shops this week, contains several short prints and variations. According to Topps, the following base cards are short prints:

    #5 Todd Helton
    #20 Jim Edmonds
    #30 Hideo Nomo
    #31 Albert Pujols
    #33 Vladimir Guerrero
    #79 Kaz Ishii
    #101 Ivan Rodriguez
    #110 Jorge Posada
    #130 Andruw Jones
    #135 Alex Rodriguez
    #260 Cesar Izturis
    #292 Ryan Sweeney
Cards #398-475 are all short prints

Topps says the following variations are short-printed:

    #3 Alfonso Soriano (Running)
#6 Jason Bay (1956 Pirates uniform Variation)
    #7 Ichiro (squatting on-deck)
#31 Albert Pujols (1956 Cardinals uniform Variation – red hat)
    #50 Jim Thome (Fielding)
#69 Mark Prior (1956 Cubs uniform Variation)
#78 Edgardo Alfonzo (1956 Giants uniform Variation)
#82 Torii Hunter (1956 Senators uniform Variation)
#118 Magglio Ordonez (1956 White Sox uniform Variation)
#125 Nomar Garciaparra (1956 Cubs uniform Variation)
    #135 Alex Rodriguez (Fielding)
#155 Eric Chavez (1956 Kansas City uniform variation)
    #261 Carlos Beltran (Batting)
    #273 Chipper Jones (Blue background)
    #286 Hank Blalock (Fielding)
#296 Johan Santan (1956 Senators uniform Variation)
    #300 Sammy Sosa (Blue jersey)
    #312 Lance Berkman (Fielding)
#353 Tim Hudson (1956 Braves uniform Variation – Patch on sleeve)
    #389 Curt Schilling (Looking In)

Short printed cards are found 1:2 packs.

Actually I think a lot of people call them booster boxes - some have called them blister - would like to know the real term - my point is to distinguish them from the regular "per pack" boxes that are 24 ct. on the shelf that is opened by the clerk.
BTW, at Target - it is a company policy that all retail 24 ct. boxes be opened before they get put on the shelf.

Blister actually refers to the packaging of just about anything in a "formed" plastic holder for display. Think matchbox cards, those are "blister packs". It's called a blister pack because it starts out as a flat sheet of plastic and gets formed via heat into a given shape, kind of like how a blister forms on the skin. The boxes are called booster boxes because they contain x number of packs and give you a head start (boost) on a collection...

At least that's my theory. image I know the hanging packs are called blister packs, the boxes are called booster boxes. I made up the rest, but it sounds good to me.
  • Finally an AUTO, not that I necessarily felt I was entitled to one for any reason.

Not much else to report in the third box, other than a A-Rod game used bat (several

    Kevin-

I was just about to post your sig pic over here. The guy pulled 4 autos out of those 4 cases, including a Killebrew GU / 25. I think he also got about 100 chromes, 25 refractors, and 4 blacks.

I'm sure it made for a day of fun, but if you lined all that stuff up in front of me without packs, It would be hard to drop over 2 grand on it. I still can't wait for a box though!
  • I thought they airbrushed all of the Nationals cards? I pulled a Vidro Chrome and even though it says Washington, he's in his Expos uni. Normal?

yeah that Harmon is nice, I like the pic of the wall of heritage.

I really think that one of us is going to nail something really good out of the Kuhlmann boxes. It seems to me that the black
refractors are really really hard to pull, maybe even more than the graphs!! Could topps have stashed away a bunch for
    retail packs?? hmmm

    Hey Kevin-

Your boy on the beckett boards now claims that me missed an Aaron red auto while sorting through those 4 cases. I find it hard to believe a lot of the stuff that comes lout of that guy's mouth. He claims that he never knew Heritage had autos before, despite having opened 10+ cases. Now this card that he "missed". Yet somehow he still has the scons to back it up.

    Strange.
  • Is it common that if you find a President Giles in a pack, that the next card is President Harridge?

  • I opened up two boxes yesterday and pulled

Bob Feller - Authentic Stadium Seat (?)

Rudy Minarcin - auto hand numbered 14/56

    Chrome:

    Glen Perkins
    Jason Bay
    Scott Rolen
    Shawn Green
    Ishii
    Sosa
    Miguel Cabrera
    Miguel Tejada

  • On the back of the Jake Martin AUTO card is a small sticker that Topps put on the card that says "12706-40"

    Which means...?

In another auction of an auto card there is an apparent population indicated for that
card , I see no such thing here unless of course 12706-40 means something to you.

(i checked the Topps.com site which is awful, you have to click about 4 times just
to find the word "heritage" and then it doesn't have anything about 2005...so where
are you guys finding these "sales sheets")

man...everyone is pulling some autos. I've seen some great ones coming out too. I'm ecstatic to have at least gotten the 1 I got. I really don't like the stadium seats, very impersonal...yet you can bet that the Stan Musial and Ernie Banks versions will garner higher premiums than Luis Aparicio. Strange. For all the Team Topps autos that have been talked about, I havent' seen one that I can think of. I've seen quite a few real-one autos, a couple red autos, and several of the flashback autos #/25 and several of the GU autos. I'm thinking retail is going to get a few black refractors and the Team Topps autos. What do you guys think?

As for the 2 presidents (Cards #1, #2) I got the both of them in every pack I got the other. I have to admit, card #1 in chrome looks pretty cool too. image Very bright.

I might have to run up to the money pit and pick up 2 more boxes today...the boxes I get tomorrow will go on my table for sale at the show. image

topps uses the certification number on the back of all autographs and some GU. The number may or may not mean anything to
topps. We have tried to determine print runs in the past by the numbers but this hasn't worked. I think all the print runs in
this product can be determined by the odds. Ill break out the math later once retail is released.

I read that the "Real One" autographs were all short printed to 200. Then obviously the flashback and clubhouse auto relics are #/25 and the red-ink Real One autos are #/56. Soo...

lets see...add the 5, carry the 1..subtract for replacement cards and stuff to be later used in TheToppsVault auctions...and you've got... aw hell. Let me get back to you. image
