if you're talking about 2004, the background is the same(red) for both the SP and the regular card.. I believe the variation is whether Arod is seen in a "Throwing" or "Hitting" pose on the front..

Hi Geoff
The SP is ARod "throwing"

<< <i>If anyone is in need of boxes, shoot me a PM...I can get close to the price that kuhlman was selling them for, just means it will be a few days after launch before you can open them, though (have to wait for the distributor to get them to me, then me to ship them out). >>
Thanx Axtell
For those who missed the deadline, that's great! Some sites are up to 79.95 and if hot will jump to 95!
Remember, the retail is good to keep in your budget also since last year, that was out greatest source of SP's!!

PS: be ready to piss off some people not interested in Heritage - last year we got some real bad looks from some people! There's nothing wrong with being a Heritage Geek!
If you pull something good and want to consider selling it on ebay - strike first - people seem to over bid on this stuff early on and then it will slow down considerably IMO.
Master sets were selling early on for close to 500$ and then dropped down closer to the 300+ range.
I know of a few people that try to put two sets together and let the one pay for itself. Unfortunately, if collation is stiff, it's hard to make a complete set out of a case. You will need the help of board guys.
For those who opt to buy the basic set on ebay and fill in from there - be aware that you will not necessarily get the guys best cards in the set. But you can send the bad ones to Topps for replacement.

for anybody that gets pissed,
Does "damaged" also the same as O/C? I just bought a 3 dollar pack of Bowman heritage at Target today, and pulled a Pujols jersey (freakin' 1:667 odds for a 5 dollar card tops) that is WAY O/C. Would they take it back?
<< <i>Hey Mike, I've been wondering about this.

That's a potential problem - they may not have a replacement for it - they should send it back - I sent in a Thomas card and got the same one returned - some companies keep it with a sorry thing and give you some packs!!!
Those Jersey cards are typically not worth a lot on resale - I have seen 20$ GU's go for a couple of bucks on ebay - so it may not be worth the trouble of insuring and sending in. Now if you have a card for card replacement submission with subsequent T Heritage stuff - give it a shot then.
General: on OC's - if you don't want to take a chance on them rejecting your claim, DING them also!
That's the best I can say

set wasn't the hard part to put together. I remember back in 02 the Delgado SP was very hard to find, but the non sp's came at
just about the same rate. In 04 I literally had 20 of one guy and 2 of the other. So beware, mix and match is the way to go...hobby retail
west coast, east coast. We can also compare notes on the Kulhmann boxes and others.
Axtell...Thanks for the offer, again you know you could sell for more but you are willing to help us out. I almost want to throw up when I
see the prices at the shops here. Im sure a box would be close to 100 here. I know one store that has quite a bit of 04 left...they might be
looking to move it if anyone is interested.
Im not sure if anyone has a game plan yet on how they are going to put their set together. For me I take it slow and savor....I rip a pack, look
at all the cards carefull and them put them in number order. The first few weeks the cards spend their time in a box in numerical order. After the
short prints and variations are announced I put them in sheets. Nothing more old school than 9 count sheets and a binder. I put the varaitions
right next to each other. I love going through later and looking at the pictures and reading the backs, seeing where everyone is born...etc
I remember I got throught with putting my 01 set in a binder, somthing like 60 pages worth and then realized that I had forgotten one
card...of course it was numbered low and because I am a heritage freak, I went back and moved every card back one!
As far as selling and recouping some money back there are plenty of cards to look for. early on everything sells well, many player collectors
look for the jerseys and chromes and refractors. The black refractors always sell well, expect 50-80 dollars for any of the decent players an more
for rookies and guys like Bonds and Pujols. Also make sure you look at the numbering. Hitting a guys jersey number on any of the numbered
chromes means big bucks. I remember pullling Jason Kendall...numbered to his jersey # and sold if for 75 bucks...and it was damaged!
If anyone has any hereos in the set that they grew up with who appear in the auto set let us know, I would rather trade it to someone
here than make a few bucks on ebay. I was able to sell a Rickey Henderson master set to Perry last year. Im not sure if Rickey is going to
make it in this set but if he does someone save him one.
Ive contacted the higher ups at topps and told them about us. Hopefully they will swing by. I have also told the beckett board members that
we are here so hopefully we can add some more traders. Its good to have a group of guys than we know are good traders.
Welp lets keep the hype going. Im going to pray to the short print god before I go to bed tonight LOL

I had mentioned in another thread that I had two boxes of Hertiage coming, '03 and '04, but this seems more like the place to talk about it.
2004 box - This was SP heaven, and since it was the box I opened first, I am now hooked forever on "potential". The best pack had Wood SP, Dunn SP, and the Helton Purple Jsy SP. I will get the offical count later, but the box had to have yielded 40 SPs with only a few dupes. The chromes were nothing to speak of, and the refractor (regular) was Smoltz. I didn't get any relics, autos or black chromes. I am accusomted to that though, since I have never pulled anything close to a high dollar chase card ever. Nevertheless a great start on this set.
2003 box - I didn't have the same success with this one as I did the other. I did fairly well on the SPs that were placed throughout the set, but the ones at the end were few and far between. I was probably more in line with the stated odds of 1:2. This box also yielded a lot of dupes. I got 4 of certain cards, and a few of the SPs were duped as well - Andy Marte and Miguel Tejada come to mind. So the collation in this box was decidedly worse than then 04 box, but it was a blast to open just the same. As with the 04 box, I didn't get any relics, autos, or black chromes and I believe the refractor was Marlon Byrd.
Either way they are great boxes to open. The SPs and variations make every card an adventure, I just wished I didn't wait four years to jump on the bandwagon.

the set..quite a journey.

i usually start out by getting a new 3 ring binder and a fresh pack of sheets.
i number the reverse of the sheets in black fine point sharpie, allowing space for variations ex. 1, 1 pv (pose variation or night sp etc.), i symbolize every sp by denoting the number in red fine point sharpie.
after that is done, i put EVERY card in numerical order, with two cases it's a tedious proccess but my son helps me , (i give him any modern superstar relic i pull, eg. pujols jersey, arod bat, etc. so he doesn't complain).
i start the sorting with sp's first, i put the "keepers" in card saver 2's and either list the dupes on ebay in lots immediately or trade, because even 2 cases doesn't guarantee you a full set.
i repeat this step with the chromes, i only keep the #'d to 954, 955, etc. one day i will get serious about finishing a run of all the sp chromes. i list the #'d to 1955's etc. as lots on ebay, but i let my son pick out any stars or yankees he wants.
all autos usually get listed as well because i hardly seem to pull any good ones, only the thorton kippers of the day.
any grandstand glory cards get placed into screw downs, they are my favorite inserts and i try to collect all of them.
after this my auction proceeds usually allows me to recoup a large portion of what i laid out. with this money i take my wife to dinner at her favorite Mulberry st. restaurant. then the real fun begins, no silly, not sex.
i go through EVERY card to find the best possible examples for my set. then i sleeve the cards, lay the binder flat in an indivdual cabinent drawer with any insert cards and 1 unopened pack, for future enjoyment.
if you haven't been convinced of my sickness at this point, sometimes i swear i can hear hear the unopened packs talking to me, "jim, it's the willie mays red ink auto, please let me the heck out of here!!"
Now that is a plan! I especially like the part about your kid keeping the relics and taking your wife out to dinner. My boy is only
2 right now so heritage is just another throw toy to him, but one day he will enjoy the cards I give him and we have quite a time
looking over the "vintage" sets.
Its funny you mention two cases not always yielding a full set, some may laugh at this but it is true, I can't tell you how many times
I have read over on other message boards guys trying to figure out if 3 or 4 boxes will get them a complete set! LOL I can tell you
are a true heritage warrior. It get to the point when you are in your card opening packs that you just have a mental list of the last
5 or so players you need...it seems like they all come at once too. Now if you only knew when retail box out of the 8 you are looking
at in the middle of target to pick huh??
Ah whats the use you know that you are going to buy all 8 anyways. LOL
I have been stuck on my 03 chrome set, IM sure we have traded numbers at some point but maybe we can help each other out
again. Who is your kids favorite player?
Its going to be here soon!
Kevin
i'll shoot you a list of 03 chrome i need, remember i'm doing only to 954 so it's alot.
my sons favorite players are posada, a rod, pujols and now randy johnson , go figure he hasn't even thrown one pitch at the stadium in pinstripes.
maybe they'll push the release date up?

Does anyone know if there are going to be Roop Binders for this set like Bowman Heritage? I thought that was a nice touch and was hoping they'll have them for this set. A slip-cased binder is a must for a big set like this that takes dozens of pages. I haven't seen any mentioned in the promotional materials, but maybe there's late news.
2005 Origins Old Judge Brown #/20 and Black 1/1s, 2000 Ultimate Victory Gold #/25
2004 UD Legends Bake McBride autos & parallels, and 1974 Topps #601 PSA 9
Rare Grady Sizemore parallels, printing plates, autographs
Nothing on ebay
Also, to add to the SP ratio, last year the retail blister boxes of 11 packs for 30 bucks had 1 SP/pack. Hoping they have the same this year!
On the Roop binder - I sure hope so - I was planning on putting all the years in that kind of binder if available. I agree, it would be a really nice touch!

Some new information regarding heritage:
Text
<< <i>a product that also includes the company’s first-ever Washington Nationals cards.
“One thing that’s very appealing about Heritage is the fact that collectors and fans get to see players with their new teams on a trading card for the first time,”
Among the player updates are Randy Johnson (Yankees), Tim Hudson (Braves), Adrian Beltre (Mariners), Kenny Lofton (Phillies), Wade Miller (Red Sox), Scott Podsednik (White Sox), Tony Womack (Yankees) and several others. The only two notables not pictured in new uniforms from the new box were former Angles shortstop David Eckstein (Cardinals) and former Astros centerfielder Carlos Beltran (Mets.)
“We missed Beltran just by a couple days,” Luraschi says. >>
Last year, a guy sold Andy Pettite's first card from the Heritage set in his new Houston uni for 20 bucks!
So if you sell on ebay, you can capitalize on that - be first - and reap the benefit!!!

Baubles I now own thanks to the Pool Hall-
2004 Bowman Heritage George Kell auto - $7
2004 Heritage refractor lot of 5 - $8
2004 Heritage Chrome lot of 20 - $24
2004 Heritage Refractor lot of 2 - $2.25
Buying these things by the lot is the way to go!
As far as the binders are concerned, it would be awesome if Topps would do the same thing Bowman did for Heritage in 04. 1 redemption card per case nets you a custom MJ Roop binder with embossed logos- I wonder if it comes with pages though, or if it's just the binder.
