A little grading help please

I am not good a grading US coins - could someone take a stab at it please. I know it's hard from a photo but I would appreciate an opinion. I have it as vf-20.
Thanks, and greetings to the lightside.

I love the look of that one! I think VF20 might be just a touch on the conservative side, but not far off.

    Yep! VF-EF-35.

Circulated Standing Liberty quarter grading is soft as puppy poop. For every other series wear like this would get you a VF-20, but these things, this is a near EF.

I don't agree with it, but I image that the pricing has been adjusted to reflect the "grade-flation."

I am also collecting at least one coin for each Roman emperor from Julius Caesar to ... ?
  • Is that because the series is so popular right now? Are any other series suffering from "grade-flation"?image

Most everything has been subject to "grade-flation" in recent years. I have two Bust dollars that were EF-45's years ago. Now one is an AU-55 and the other is an AU-58. I guess they "grew back" some the metal they lost many, many years ago. image

Standing Liberty quarters have been "grade-inflated" for a long time. There are lots of pieces in MS holders that have obvious rub on the knee. Some of them even have a rub down the shin, which is a real travesty. image

As a YN back in the 1960's a so-called Unc. Standing Liberty quarter that I bought as a type coin was one of the first coins in which I got ripped-off big time. image

Nice VF ... VF-30? ... and looks like a winner on the totally original side as well! image

I disagree that things have changed that much on the grading of this level (for this series) over the last 20 years. It's more a case of combined awareness and spliting up the grades. 20 years ago, someone familiar with the series would have said it would have been a nice VF (IMO) ... and from the looks of it, those in the know here still do (as that's where everyone is putting numbers on it).

This is a series that wore to nothing very quickly (hence the nickname "slicks" for circulated SLQ's had some meaning) mostly because much of the design is exposed.

My 2 bits worth ... again nice coin image

  • I'd say a solid 30, date still good --nice photos.
    Curmudgeon in waiting!
  • I'd go up 2 vf-35

I'm with the "30" guys. Nice coin for the grade. Don't usually see too many SLQ's in mid grade.
