Since the olympic topic has been broached I need to brag on my 2nd daughter (actually my daughter's best friend who spends a lot of time at my house). She won a Silver Medal last night swimming the 3rd leg of the 4 x 100 Free Relay last night. Her name is Amanda Weir and we are all very proud of her.image

My wife, teenage daughter, and myself just had a debate over the size of the women's suits. I believe it's the size that counts.
    Prost!

My daughter was diagnosed with type 1 diabetes at the age of 2 (2003). My son was diagnosed with Type 1 when he was 17 on December 31, 2009. We were stunned that another child of ours had been diagnosed. Please, if you don't have a favorite charity, consider giving to the JDRF (Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation)

I understand that "Women's Olympic Beach Volleyball" is now to be referred to as "Almost Naked Volleyball."

I have to agree. Kill Basketball, Baseball, Softball, Tennis, Badminton, syncronized diving, syncronized swimming for starters.

  • << <i> Badminton >>

Badminton is an amazing sport. It takes incredible athleticism to play it on that level. It deserves it's Olympic slot. Most Americans don't understand the game because it is so under the radar in our culture.

I recall hearing or reading recently that there is/was an effort being made to make chess or some such other non physical activity an Olympic event. That leads me to query the following........... What is your definition of a sport? Does it require some level of physical activity? If so, how much (i.e. would chess, checkers, tiddily winks, pickup sticks or even reading qualify since they require a player to move game pieces or turn pages)? Does it only require only some form of competition (against other persons or against time, distance, weight, etc) in order to measure one performance against others?

If your definition of sport does not require much in the way of physical activity and requires some form of competition, then I say that coin collecting should be made an Olympic Event. Perhaps the Registry Concept could be expanded upon and have some sort of Numismatic Olympics take place. What say you all?

Actually, competitive chess is an extremely physical activity. In my experience, it is far more physically draining than almost any other sport I have played. In the words of Bobby Fischer (preparing for Spassky in 1972), "I gotta stay in shape, or it's all over!"

There are 10 types of people in the world, those who understand binary and those who do not.

There are only three sports: bullfighting, motor racing, and mountaineering; all the rest are merely games.

Sanction...I think you are on to something...I would also submit beer drinkingimage, remote control dexterity, pizza oven shuffleboard and bar-b-queing. Let's bring these games into the 21st century. And for the "little ladies" competitive suntanning and pool rafting.imageimage
