PCGS should ditch the new banner adds on this forum

Let the dealers find creative ways to publicize themselves here. Very few get by us without a "this belongs in the B/S board" reply. But if they're clever we let them slide. I find the new Pinnacle banner a real turnoff.

As I noted in another thread, the amount of bandwidth that a forum this large uses doesn't come cheap. Nor does the hardware necessary for the piggy software used here. Many other popular forums went to advertising long ago. In many cases, it was either that or shut down due to costs. In other words, PCGS may have had no choice.
Edited to add: I do agree, though, that the banner used could and should be less intrusive.

Doesn't bother me Mark, and I didn't even notice it until it was pointed out by Russ....... Not that I 'm biased or anything because it is my favorite coin website!

Now that was a deep, well thought out response. There wouldn't be folks here if they had a cover charge. This site is here mainly to increase the sales of CU's services. Would the registry exist in the numbers it does now without this site, hardly. This site provides brand awareness, a chance for the company to communicate with customers, an opportunity for its customers to sell its services to other potential customers. I could go on but hopefully you get the drift.
I hope you don't do marketing for your employer.

Your right, I paid for a membership to a stock forum. There are no ad's for paid members. Freebie/loader "members" get tons of ads.

I respectfully disagree. It's capitalism. Capitalism is what facilitated the creation of this forum: what gave the impetus for the formation of the grading services. The revenues that these activities produce, help get so many good things done.
Having said that, you're certainly entitled to your opinion.

Yep, it's called subscription service. Another forum at which I'm a member, (a HUGE forum, about 10x as large as this one), went to it a few years ago. When they announced it, you'd have thought Armageddon had arrived by the reaction of the members. In their case, they had no choice. It was either that or the forums were going to bankrupt the company.

There was a banner on the BST-Sports Forum for a while, seems to have disappeared though, however that banner did not "move". I do find the "moving" banner a bit distracting, and already I find myself scrolling down far enough on the page so I don't see the movement. Were the banner stationary, I'd probably not scroll.
But, this particular one, as we say in the biz--is too busy.
I'm too high-strung to have that going on around me all the time.

I am all for capitalism and advertising, but this ad S$$cks. I will never visit their website or buy anything from them as long as that "thing" is at the top of my screen.
I would reconsider if it were not annoying.
I may even take a "vacation" from the boards - it looks too much like a "low rent" site now.

The movement is a distraction when trying to read text. Nothing objectionable about having an ad there.
