What has been your favorite purchase in the last few months?

I picked up a cool 1863 Three Dollar Gold. PCGS AU55. Only made 5000 of 'em. Threes are alot of fun, lots of low mintage bargins for barely a premium over a much more common date.

Probably the 1868 2 cent'er in PR64 red. However, it's no longer in my possession.image

Emmm... that's a tough one. It's a toss up between these two:

Man... I've gotten so much cool stuff in the last month... but since half of it came 34 days ago, it doesn't count, and that leaves me with just two cool coins... I can post two image (I'll get new pictures soon--these were taken during a time of technical difficulty)

Completed my Proof Franklin set (with varieties ) last month with the addition of a stunning
    1950 NGC PF 67.

Light cameo and spotless. Looks nicer than a 67.

Set has an average grade of 67.2. All are NGC coins and are all blast white (W or * designations) most with Cameo or Ultra Cameo.

Nice looking set , if I do say so myself.

1883 No Cent Nickel in MS 66 (PC). I've never seen a Liberty Nickel with more eye appeal than this one. You almost need to put on sunglasses before looking at the coin!

At the sale of John Ford's library, I bought the original 1909 letter documenting the sale by Capt. John Haseltine to William Woodin of the two unique 1877 $50 gold patterns. The transaction was especially important because the subsequent scandal and return of the coins to the US Mint resulted in a settlement that released vast quantities of other patterns to Woodin, perhaps doubling the number of patterns in collectors hands. As a pattern specialist, the letter is an important part of my numismatic heritage.

The letter is on attractive stationery, signed by both parties (plus Edgar Adams as a witness!), and cost me all of $805.

  • A 84S Morgan. I have been looking for one for a year and a half that will fit my collection with eye appeal and

financially. This is the third 84s that I have purchased. Hopefully she will fit in fine. Bob
