Seperation of church & state.....hmmm funny thing, the biggest part of what we pay our secretary at church to do is keep records for the federal government, i.e. tax records so the government can get their cut. I don't think the government wants to be seperated from us church going folks! image
    Imagine that!
Also funny that somebody can go to a football game & sit for hours in the freezing rain on a rock hard bench, scream until their voice croaks, and worship some quarterback hero and they are merely considered a "fan."
But people that go to church more than once a week and tell others about the sermon and worship Jesus are called "fanatics."
Oh well, anyway I say keep it. Why? Because it doesn't hurt anything. If you find it offensive use a check or credit card instead. image
Change that we can believe in is that change which is 90% silver.
  • No!!
"Freedom of speech is a great thing.Just because you can say anything does not mean you should.
  • Of course it should be removed. And I haven't heard of any "movement" to accomplish this goal since Teddy Roosevelt. I am appalled that you all want God's name to be desecrated by being placed on the money used to pay prostitutes and gambling debts.

Now, I can think of about a zillion other things more important to oppose. The Patriot Act, federal funding of "faith-based initiatives," and school vouchers come to mind. I really don't have time to be worried about whether "In God We Trust" is on coins.
The strangest things seem suddenly routine.

<< <i>I'm still struggling to understand why the Church isn't enough for those who worship God. Is it really neccessary for them to inflict God on me from every conceivable venue? I realize that we atheists "don't have a prayer," but if I had one, I would pray for surcease from the endless emnity, proselytization and judgment of those who have swallowed doctrine and dogma that I haven't. Am I as a "Godless atheist" (I'm always amused by that expression......aren't atheists by definition 'Godless?') really a threat to believers just by my presence in this country? I am a disabled, decorated combat veteran, my father and grandfather were also decorated combat veterans, and my uncle died in WWII. Atheists one and all. I'm old enough to remember when "under God" was added to the pledge of allegiance, and all it created was confusion. Why can't you smug, self-righteous Christians be content with the knowledge that I'm going to Hell, instead of constantly bringing Hell to my daily life? But hey, you're really missing the boat! You should be hard at work making certain that the name of God is added to every flag and postage stamp in this "free" country.

Someone suggested a poll. The poll that really matters are the citizens of the United States. What happened to "We the People" getting to decide. This is really no different than the gay marriage issue. A minority desires to impose their agenda upon the majority. I believe there may be countries out there that have a majority of people who don't want "In God We Trust" on their coinage and currency. Anyone living in this country is free to go to such a country.
  • I believe, and therefore I want the motto left on. I also want "One Nation under God", prayer in schools, a return to the 10 commandments, businesses closed on Sunday, etc.
Always looking for PQ Peace Silver Dollars (blazing WHITE ones only) in MS65 & higher.

  • Hey quattro!

Amazing how after 8 years of Clinton and democrats we succeeded in the following:

Not pursuing Bin Ladan after attcking the USS Cole
Allowing terrorists to learn to fly our planes in the US
Having the economy start to tumble before Clinton even left office
Allowing companies to move jobs oversees
Allowing Enron and others to cook the books for years without government intervention just to keep the illusion of unlimited prosperity alive
Where is the fixed healthcare system that Hillary failed to provide?
As long as everyone makes imaginary money on paper, why have a president that actually accomplishes things? (Of course in the end when the rich sell and the middle class are left paying the tab it is someone else's fault)

You democrats want jobs in the US, but you also refuse low-cost energy(see your complaints about current EPA and Texas Oil), lower taxes (just for the rich, people that make more than $50,00 a year) and cheap imports and no government subsidy to farmers (who also need jobs, and provide self-sufficience during war)

And don't talk to me about "inalienable rights" and "We don't need God" in the same breath. Who do you think gave you those rights? Without God, or Intelligent Design, you have no more "human rights" than a turnip!! In that case, all absoutes are gone.
  • Hey edsondl,

Amazing how after 3 years of of bush, we've lost more jobs since the days of Hoover!

and now we have a president whose main concern is to deny a group of people the same rights afforded others in this suposedly "free" land! Could there be a more obvious "smoke-screen"?!?

    Company corruption?...one word...Haliburton!]

Do you need reminding that 9/11 occured on bush's watch?
(anyone know if somebody was able to claim the $10,000 reward to support bush's claim of of being present for duty in '72?)

"And don't talk to me about "inalienable rights" and "We don't need God" in the same breath. Who do you think gave you those rights? Without God, or Intelligent Design, you have no more "human rights" than a turnip!! In that case, all absoutes are gone."

The Clinton administration loved Haliburton and gave them numerous contracts. But of course, this is Bush's fault.

Let's see. Bin Laden was responsible for the World Trade Center bombing in 1993 and the attack on the USS Cole. Bin Laden was offered to the Clinton administration but he declined the offer. Of course 9-11 is Bush's fault.

It's the economy stupid. Yep, I was laid off during the Clinton administration, but I certainly blame Bush for it.

Jobs, thats right. The biggest employer in the town I live in closed their doors. Why? Because of the democratic enviromental policies (but that is Bush's fault too right). I am sure all of these people blame Bush for it. It was a lumber mill, and just because the housing market is booming (which requires lumber), the mill closed because they had nothing to make lumber from. Damn Bush!

I live just north of Yellowstone Park. West Yellowstone has numerous businesses about to go bankrupt. Why? Bush of course. It isn't the fact that clinton decided to close the park in winter without any public input (another one of his last second moves before he left office, similar to giving pardons to criminals who gave to the campain).

Yes, it is all Bush's fault.

Your question has no relevance to me. Wasn't Timothy McVeigh (sp?) a veteran too? I make my political decisions based on what is important to me. Number 1 is guns.

The Gay marriage question? I have a position on that too, but I should probably keep that to myself. (lets just say we do need trees for this)

I served in the infantry in Viet Nam. I know that back then, getting into the Guard was for no other reason than to dodge the draft. And dubya got help from daddy to do just that. To do that and just shuck his responsability doesn't say much to me about him. (then again it says a whole lot!)
Now bush wants to "spin" that into "disrespect" for the Guard. Today's Guard should get the same respect as the rest of the services. How ironic! Because of bush, now even our National Guard can be sent overseas!

I have a position on gay marriage also, but it's none of my bussiness! image

    quatro,

What does lying matter to liberals? Ironic how opinions of lying changes depending on views. I still have yet to see any proof of lying in this case. It is not his responsibility to prove his case. Those that are accusing have yet to prove to the contrary. I have yet to hear anyone say he was not there. Just because you do not remember a person from 30 years ago proves nothing. What about those who do remember him. I guess they were lying too.

The most precious of all, the unborn are being murdered for convenience but this word is too harsh for the liberals, no lets call it a medical procedure instead.

Prayer in school is now forbidden thanks to the liberals.

One nation under God. Nope the liberals changed that too!

The liberals destroyed an Alabama Justice because he broke the law according to them by not removing the Ten Commandments but the liberals cheer the Gay marriages being performed in California even thou it is against California law and the majority of this country is against same sex marriage.

Say anything against Gays or affirmative action and the liberals label you a Homophobe or a Racist.

The liberals are trying their best to condemn the movie The Passion as something horrible yet they promote and stand behind all the filth on TV and the internet.

Laws are being passed by liberal groups that 80% of this country are totally against.

  • dbldie55,

What does lying matter to conservatives for that matter? Let's face it, both have been known to do it! To me, the bottom line would be how many people were affected by it and in what way. Perhaps the famillies of our men lost lookin' for WMD feel a little more strongly about it. Or maybe the familly of the person who couldn't get into the Guard back in the early seventies because of privileged guys like bush jumpin' to the head of the line, and then went on to be killed or maimed for life.
Weigh that against the people that were adversely affected by Clinton's "I did not have...". To me the difference is pretty clear.
Now before I'm accused of being a saddam lover too, let me say that I was for his "take-out". Back during the first "gulf war", I was ready to re-up and go over there. The scum needed takin'-out back when we were supporting him! I can't believe that to this day, the U.N. cannot have a "Humanity Police Force" that could go in to places like Iraq and grab a saddam by the scruff and deem him an unfit ruler for the misery he causes.

"Those that are accusing have yet to prove to the contrary. I have yet to hear anyone say he was not there."

Two of his commanding officers don't recall seeing him duing the time in question.
The one person to come forward recalled seeing him there at a time when it was known that he was not there. Now maybe he wasn't lyin', but he sure was mistakin'! image

As one who spent a year in fox-holes from north of Khe Sanh down to the "fish-hook area" near Cambodia and from the Laotian border to the beaches of Quang Tri, I would hope that you can understand why I wouldn't pick him for a "fox-hole buddy". image

Yes, you are correct sir! No liberals have families. They don't want the same thing in the way of opportunities, liberties, justice and freedom for their children or grandchildren. When you reactionary conservatives finally come to the realization that there is far more that we all have in common than divides us, then we as a nation will truly begin to make some progress. No, I don't despise you as you clearly do me. But I will tell you that until you start using your own experience and intellect to make rational and informed opinions, instead of parroting neandrerthals like Rush Limbaugh, you will have no personal growth. Do you really believe that God hates liberals and loves conservatives? Perhaps you do, and that explains to me a great deal. By all means, support the causes that engage you, but find a place in your heart for your brethren of all political persuasions, as I'm sure the scriptures you embrace encourage you to do. May our children all live in a better world than we do!

That is a somewhat disturbing thought . What's next ?
Shall we escort everyone who believes in evolution to the border as well ?

Why not escort everyone who likes "IGWT" to the border instead ?

The answer to all of the above is, of course, no - because it would be a loose-loose situation either way.

You make it sound like those who want to keep IGWT on coins are more deserving to remain in this country than those who'd rather not have IGWT on the coins.

Both opinions are valid, and both types of people have an equal right to existence in this country, of course.

Why does IGWT have to be on EVERY coin ? If 10% (or whatever) of the population is athiest, then to be fair, perhaps 90% of the coins could carry IGWT while the rest don't. The world didn't end while the Buffalo nickel was in production.

And why does the law mandate that IGWT must be on the OBVERSE ? Isn't the reverse (or edge) good enough for some coins ?

Why do YOU want IGWT on coins ? Is it so that you will see it yourself, or that you want other people to see it ?

But why does it matter if its there? 99.99999 % of the people who spend money don't even notice or care. So what's the BFD about it? If it offends you then write a check or get a dremel tool and remove it yourself. If it was a major issue with half the U.S. population then put a referendum on the ballot in November and let the majority (of those who care to vote that is) rule. Should "In God We Trust" be removed from our coins & currency?

I'd like to answer the question but first I need some questions answered:

    1. Which (i.e., whose) "God" are we talking about?

    2. Does the "We" in "In God We Trust" include everyone in the USA? If not, who is "We"?

    3. For what exactly are "We" trusting "God"? Protection? Prosperity? Currency Stability? Redemption? Something else?

Sorry if these seem like obvious questions. I just want to make sure I understand the issues before I answer your question. Thank you.
